Was in the area so took advantage to pop into the Whitechapel art gallery. Think two of the finest collections I’ve seen: zineb sedira her life story told through movies, movie sets and dance - tracing back a difficult Algerian history in Paris with a resistance theme and sofas to sit on : movies to watch with Algerian scatter cushions. Then also andrew pierre hart - some exquisite oil paintings in his “bio data flows and other rhythms” show. Beautiful.

Always a great visit; this time we went to see Nicole Eisenman's exhibition, the first major UK retrospective, spread in three floors and beautifully curated. Bonus visit the cafe and wine bar on the ground floor

A bit hard to find where to buy tickets for the shows but a gallery that has free and private exhibitions. Tickets for the Eisenmann show was around 12 pound for students. They have a nice shop/bookstore

The Gallery was free of cost to visit. I get to see two different artists work there. You have 30min in hand and want to explore some artistic experience I would recommend this place. It was easy to find place in the heart of Whitechapel. Waiting for the next exhibition to happen.

Whitechapel Gallery was a pleasant interlude on a Saturday afternoon. The pieces were thought-provoking and engaging. The book shop was awesome too. Lots of interesting topics. Would definitely visit again. Plus, it's free!

I was recommended to go here by a London local. She told me that this was a good representation of genuine art in London, not just the tourist destinations near Hyde Park. She was certainly correct. I absolutely adored this place. Even though I'm not typically a fan of contemporary art, the exhibits introduced you to many different societal perspectives while also explaining them well so you didn't feel like you were just looking at gibberish. I remember thinking that one of the exhibits about gypsies was particularly moving, because they allowed you to be immersed in the daily objects of their lives so you felt like you were one of them. It helped to understand somebody else's perspective. Additionally, there's a whole room where you can just write on the walls, and I thought that was brilliant. It really moved me to write lots of stuff all over for future visitors to see.

Great place - as was pointed out on the tour, the welcome desk is right at the street- a reminder that this was a local gallery and remains so. We hired the space to hold a meeting and discussion after the tour as well. Staff was great. Very friendly and responsive. Communication issues were cleared up easily enough. A must see for London gallery goers.

There were many forms of modern art that were very beautiful there. As well as interactive rooms and exhibitions for you to get involved with. Although most of the events are free, I do recommend checking the website if you do need tickets.

Whitechapel gallery is unmissable. I've been coming here for years to see gallery shows and artists works. Recent exhibition I've seen in February 2023 was house of animals and house of Le Bas. Not to forget the video performance art body and abstraction. You'll see works here of modern art, concepts and installations. Most all of I enjoy the video art shows and installations. There is a bookshop and coffee shop to chill out. Anyone studying fine art or has interest, Whitechapel gallery is a top place to see works of innovation and thought provoking works of art.

The Whitechapel Gallery is located in the heart of East London, and is easily accessible by public transport (Aldgate East being the closest tube). It is a nice place to spend a few hours exploring the world of contemporary art...

The gallery is committed to presenting work by emerging and under-represented artists, and is a great place to see the work of some of the most upcoming artists working today...

Fantastic off the beaten track gallery with free exhibitions and paid ones. They also do a deal for lunch at the restaurant including the private exhibition, it is worthy.

A lovely exhibition space, knowledgeable and pleasant staff and a good bookshop. Also it looks as though they do a lot of community involvement work and work with young people and children. The current exhibition (April 23) is of Women Abstract artists and it's very interesting, lots of artists new to me and many countries represented.

Nice small...ish gallery. The 'life is...' exhibition is interesting. Entry is free and it's on until September 2023.

Went to see the exhibition - A Century of the Artist’s Studio: 1920 – 2020 on until 5 June 2022. If this was in any of the bigger galleries in the posh part of town, it would have been called a “blockbuster” and been sold out by now! The range and extremely high standard of artist’s on show are worth the visit in itself. The theme is also quite interesting. It is a ticketed exhibition and we managed to buy tickets on the day during the bank holiday weekend. They can be booked online in advance as well. They cost from £7 (for Art Fund members) to £17.55 (including donation). Highly recommended for people interested in diverse voices in contemporary art from across the world.

I stopped into the Whitechapel gallery whilst waiting for a friend. The space is very carefully curated & takes advantage of some unique angles. I really liked the use of negative space to compliment the artwork on display. The bookshop is great as well!

Bonus feature: Big fan of the staircase design, which let's in a lot of natural skylight.

Extremely good public gallery exhibiting modern and contemporary art. The gallery which opened in 1901 is located on Whitechapel High Street close to the tube station. In 2009 the gallery approximately doubled in size by incorporating the adjacent former Passmore Edwards library building.

The current exhibition of the work of 150 women artists including Helen Frankenthaler, Gillian Ayres and Lee Krasner between 1940 and 1970 is outstanding. Unfortunately the exhibition closes on Sunday 7 May.

Hopped off Aldate East tube and straight into Whitechapel gallery, no queues. We opted to view the exhibition by local school children. Free access and beautifully displayed. My SEN son was captivated, very accessible and we spent a solid hour looking at the exhibition and the acconpanying resources which sparked 2 purchases from the well stocked bookstore downstairs ( even if you don't have time for an exhibition visit the bookshop is worth a look). Our only disappointment was the staff. I used to work at the Ikon Gallery Birmingham ( always worth a visit) and we always offered a welcome on entrance and more info on displayed work if visitors wanted more engagement. We were not spoken to our whole visit except when I had to interrupt a staff conversation in the bookshop to make a purchase. Not very friendly , somewhat aloof.....it didn't spoil our visit but neither did staff enhance it.
