Ayers is an old-school hardware store that is just a joy to shop it with a little bit of every thing. I have used them for over 20+ years. Unlike the big box stores you can buy just one of something and not a whole box.

You can find everything you need for your household. One stop and you do all. Beautiful flowers and herbs just in time to start a garden. If you need tools and pots, you can find them in the store. I highly recommend

They have everything here - make Ayers your first stop and save a lot of time lost in a big box. Just an amazing selection of anything you need for your home. A recent example - I was looking for silver polish and wasted time in two grocery stores and Target. Ayers has four(!) To choose from on the shelf.

This is a magical place. A hardware and variety store that has defied modernity. With everything from tools and toys, plant seeds and school supplies, housewares, candy and clothing. We used to live nearby and as far as I can tell, not a thing has changed in 45 years. Like something from the cover of The Saturday Evening Post. I was passing by yesterday on a brief trip to Washington DC and stopped to put my head through the door. The smell of the place was like the Madeleine of Proust, a macedoine of must and machine oil, provoking memories of past times. This is the sort of establishment that shouldn’t exist anymore in a country of Walmart and Costco, yet it survives, still in family ownership. Let us hope it will be eternal.

Incredible store. Skip Home Depot and Michael’s! Support this small business instead. Unless I need lumber, a power tool, or something high-end and specific for one of my kids’ craft projects, I can usually find it here. To call it a hardware store is a gross understatement of everything they offer. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Parking behind the store makes it a quick visit in the middle of a project.

A wonderful traditional old fashioned rare gem of a variety/hardware store. Where else can I find old-fashioned fuses for my old apartment? The plants, from spring to fall are gorgeous. I even got potato sets there . All the employees are helpful professional and friendly. Alva, who has been here for decades is legendary. I love Ayers.

Competitive prices and great service with a
small town feel. Went to Home Depot today to buy a yard tool: busy parking lot, employees who run the gamut from being very helpful to those who act as if they're serving a prison sentence, difficulty locating what I'm looking for. HD had a handful of options, none of which were suitable based on price/quality. Then went to Ayers. Helpful staff immediately directed me to where I needed to go. It had one option for the tool, which was better quality than the multiple options at Home Depot and was priced cheaper than the HD options.

Needed a watch battery replaced for a no-name watch. Technician removed the watch back, found the proper battery and replaced it.

Handy store for most basic hardware needs and some household items you just can't find anywhere else.

I dropped by to find food for the orchid I was gifted for my birthday a month ago. Not knowing how to take care of this plant, it was refreshing (knowing that I went in determined and anxious to find answers to how to revive it) when the staff was honest and said he really didn't know much about orchids.

In all honesty, he could have told/sold me anything and I would have been none the wiser. I really appreciate that kind of integrity so Ayers will always be on my list of resources even if it's just for guidance towards finding the right answer.

I have shopped at Ayers Hardware for over 40 years now, and every time I go I don't want to leave. There are always wonderful little treasures to find throughout the store. Their bird seed selection is great (including suet feeders), and their housewares never disappoint. I make a regular trek to the store at least once a month.

The staff are dedicated and helpful. The selection is always surprising and reliable. More than that it’s the kind of long-standing place in the community where you can just be part of the scene. No trip to the Westover farmers market is complete without a visit to Ayers for a seasonal or fun extra thing or some odds and ends for the house. This store is home.

Ayers has been a go-to place for us since 1985. Where else can you go and buy a single small washer or a screw? Good staff and just about anything you need for an Arlington home.

A bird found its way into my basement. I read what to use to set it free, went to Ayres where they provided plastic tarp and masking tape. I went home and installed opened the back door and the bird flew out after about 1 minute. So easy. Thank you.
