Lake Accotink Park

When making plans to come here with my three kids on a Sunday morning in December, I was unaware the playground had been updated. It was a very pleasant surprise when we arrived. At ten am on a mild December day, there was only one other family there and for a good period of time we had the place to ourselves. When we left around noon, it was a popular spot for other families.

In regards to the new equipment, I was thrilled to see what had replaced the older playground. My kids are ages 4, 7, and 11. The swingset has two traditional swings, one toddler swing, and one of the newer toddler/parent type swings. There are some game type pieces, and musical equipment, plus a little house/store area. The bigger equipment contains a very large curly tunnel slide and one of those rope climbing structures. There is no smaller tot lot type slides or climbing structures. My older two loved the slide and my 4 year old tried it with them eventually, even though she had reservations. It is totally dark at the top since it is enclosed and fairly long. I'm a big fan of the rope climbing structures for a wider age range, not to mention parent visibility if there are any issues. My 11 year old didn't immediately comment about being bored and spent a lot of time climbing around before our friends joined us. I appreciate playgrounds that engage the older kids like that.

One thing I hadn't seen before was the use of light on a playground. There are a few tall pieces with translucent colored panels that filter the light through to the ground when the sun shines through them. One of them will spin if a child turns it. I appreciate this extra dimension to engage the kids on a new level.

Since it is winter the closer bathroom and water fountains are closed. The bathroom above the playground is still open, but the water fountains up there are also off.

Before we went home, we stopped on the beach to admire all the birds. Geese are common there, but there were also sea gulls and two other types of birds that seemed possibly swan like and perhaps cormorants. The area to the left of the dock is full of trash, as per usual.

The trails are delightful 😊 The nature is naturally vibing and it is peaceful any time of the year. These pictures were taken on a mild December morning. It has definitely been kept much better lately!

It is a serene, lovely park with great facilities and a breathtaking vista.
Perfect for a family picnic or afternoon walk in the park with young children.
The lakeside walk is well-maintained and clearly marked.
The trail is lined with numerous seats for seating.
There are beautiful picnic places beneath the towering trees. The trees create a large shade area so that you can rest from the intense summer sun.

We have been holding our events here for 3 years, it meets all our needs and there is a management that treats us very well. Thank you very much on behalf of my group. There is peace in the middle of the city.

A nice place to do hiking, walking and a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood. Clean area and lots of picnic spots you can reserve.

Playground needs to be got bigger. So many kids. Some parts of trail paths around the lake are muddy after rainy days. Parking lot is a bit far away picnic areas

Amazing place to walk and spend some time with your loved ones, or alone if you rather be alone...

We always have a great time coming to Lake Accotink park. Our kiddo loves the carousel🎠 and look like they run every 30mins until 6.30pm.

It was my first time running Lake Accotink and it was absolutely beautiful! I usually do Holmes Run but decided to switch it up and man was it great!

It also fully circles around for a total distance of around 4.1 miles. Definitely a great place to walk or run on a nice day:)

It had been years since my last visit and I don't know why. It is simply gorgeous with a nice moderate to medium difficulty walking trail that is paved part of the way around the scenic lake. I highly recommend this place to enjoy nature while getting some exercise!

Beautiful this time of the year with all the fall colors. Trails are well kept and people are quite friendly.

We don't visit this park often because we live far away. But there are a lot of interesting things there. When we were in July, there was a repair on the dam. The folder has a lot of picnic tables, a playground, toilets, parking, a carousel, you can ride on the lake on a catamaran, you can walk in the woods along the lake. A train sometimes passes near the dam at the top .

the DUCKS are my favourite there. Beautiful fall foliage around this time of the year. Has good public spaces and amenities such as kids play-zone, picnic spaces & spacious restrooms. Great view while walking down the trails.

This is a great park for picnicking, hiking, bird watching, fishing and mountain biking. I love the train bridge. It’s a unique feature that I think is interesting. The community and the park friends do a very good job keeping this place looking clean and well kept.

The wooded loop trail is one of my favorite places to walk or run. It's very wide so not a problem for people to pass each other. The loop is just under four miles but there are lots of spurs where you can add mileage of you want to. Very pretty and peaceful. There are benches along the trail of you want to stop and take in the scenery.

Oasis, beautiful haven:) unfortunately water isn’t safe to fish/swim… it’s really dirty water;( but it’s a sanctuary for wild life and awesome trails all over… How can we clean up the lake water..?

Thank you Lake Accotink Park and staff for an amazing day on the 17th of September. My daughter had her birthday here as we chose the Campfire Birthday package. The kids were able to play while we setup. They loved the smores at the campfire as well.

Love Lake Accotink So much to do. Well maintained beautiful views, trail, Auntie carousel, mini ⛳, playground, paddle boats. Come check it out for yourself bring the family. If your like me bring your rc trail trucks awesome place.

Absolutely beautiful lake with picnic area and a little beach, geese, and butterflies. Trail goes around the lake through the woods.
