Fantastic mixed berry salad to start. Then some broiled haddock tacos with a Cajun seasoning and some amazing sauce. Service was great and friendly. A great little spot!

Ultimate grilled cheese was absolutely delicious! Server recommendation of waffle over regular fries was spot on!

CLOSED - It was great when I ate there a couple of years ago - but as of 25-Jan-24 this restaurant is CLOSED and apparently being remodeled, to include a new roof (saw the building permit).

Great food and atmosphere. My power went out due to a storm so I powered up with some cold snaps and a Nashville chicken sandwich...kinda wish my power never came back on, I'd still be here

Exceptional food and service!!! Coming from Tennessee where bars and pubs are everywhere this one exceeded our expectations.

I had an amazing meal and great service while there. I had the fish and chips and had to tap out after eating 1 perfectly fried filet, I was given 2 with a huge amount of fries. Appetizers were awesome too. Huge servings and amazing atmosphere. Thanks Hammer Pub and Grill for a great time.

A Portsmouth legend. The best bar, as in the best actual bar as a piece of furniture, I have ever seen. It is built like a cathedral, with a gentle slope supporting up to 40 elbows at a time. Belly up to the altar and say your prayers.
Recommended: fish and chips. They have malt vinegar.

Key location in the heart of Portsmouth. Tasty food, especially the burgers. Good drinks, excellent service, fun events. It's a classic bar and grille experience.

First of all this is one of my favorite bars in portsmouth! Perfect spot to pop in for a quick drink, or stay for a meal as the food is great.

If you ever need a private space for an event- I would highly recommend reserving the upstairs bar as I had a private party for a work event and could not recommend the room more! From the coordinating with Janet, to the bar tender Madison, everything was so easy to plan and we had the greatest service the entire night! Can’t wait until the next party to plan because I know where it will be 🤩

Fantastic brunch and service. We had a recommendation and so glad we tried the Hammer. One of the best breakfasts we have had out and great service in a fun pub atmosphere . Great TVs for Sunday football . We highly recommend the biscuit and gravy breakfast, the homemade corned beef hash breakfast with perfect poached eggs and the wimpy breakfast hamburger and egg. Great prices and loved the relaxed atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit to the Hammer. The menu had so many great options.

Go for the Smash burger - simply can't be beat. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, fair prices, great downtown location.

Food is great. Can't order wrong here. Bartenders make the drinks perfect.

We are from California and stopped by here last night. Didn't catch the bartenders name, but she was incredible. The only employee in the room serving everyone perfectly. She literally ran the entire bar. Food was very delicious. G&T was made very well. One of the coolest places I've visited in a long time. 5 stars!!!

Cozy, basic, and straightforward. Drinks are cheap and strong. Food was quick to arrive and delicious. Keri the bartender was great. I recommend for some above average pub food and great service at a fair price

This kid working is dancing and just having fun! I love it Portsmouth needs more of that, this kid does not care he's just dancing and having fun. I LOVE IT! Plus the food and drink are on point.

Great visit for lunch. Smash burger club and hot chicken sandwich where both great. Waffle fries also delicious with the cajun seasoning. Drinks mixed well and staff friendly and attentive.

Love the new Hammer Pub & Grille in downtown Portsmouth! We always enjoyed the ole' Rusty Hammer, but this is outstanding. Great vibe and rustic, clean atmosphere with an incredibly welcoming crew of management, bar and wait staff. We loved the signature cocktail; "Hammer Time" and the assortment of beers and ales on tap! The appetizers were amazing and the entrees delicious...tried the seared scallops and risotto, excellent and very reasonably priced. Burgers and pub food was great as well. Watched a little baseball, chatted with some other friendly patrons, ( met a very nice couple from Galway) and had a very enjoyable evening and experience! Highly recommend The Hammer if you are venturing out at all in Portsmouth right now. Will be back to try Brunch this weekend!🌞🍽🍹

This is the best place in town, the owners are amazing people. We had our rehearsal dinner, our after wedding party, and my wife's baby shower here. They are extremely friendly and accommodating. I wouldnt go anywhere else for an event. They also have very good food, friendly staff, and a great beer selection. If I could give it a million stars I would.
