Free Boondock camping.
Arrive before dark to camp. If you dont good luck seeing an open area. The sites are further than the car park. The Car park is for cars to park for biking. Go towards the national forest. As you go further towards the lake Fish Creek Reservoir it gets a bit rougher. Cars do it but recommend a 4 wheel drive. Go slow no problems. The forest is amazing and the sites are good. This is Dry camp not a state park. Be patient you will find a site. The locals use this are for biking and camping or just hanging out for the evening. Give your self time it is a slow drive up and down. Cell Phones do work a lot of the times.

Beautiful trails all around. The road is rough so a high clearance vehicle past dry lake campground is necessary.

Buffalo Pass... Wow, just wow! Went on a bluebird Sunday after snowing a day or two during the week. Easy to get there from Summit County in case you're not going directly to steamboat springs. You definitely need to be "good" to go out there even with guides. Highly recommend going up with a group and doing a recon sesh beforehand. It's a huge area so you'll want to know where you are going before you do all the fun stuff. Trust me, you and your friends will thank you. Sleds are a must. if you have a razer, cat, or something like that, bring it. If you have no machinery, there is a company called Elevate Backcountry (elevate Backcountry.org) that'll hook you up. The folks that run it are local who are pros at this and will make sure you have a SAFE & Enjoyable time in the Backcountry.

No grills at the park, but camping is available at nearby Dry Lake Campground. Outdoor latrines available at car park and in Campground

Blessed with great views of the meteor shower in August! Very little light pollution (if any) for stargazing. Road up is pretty rough, SUVs did best, 4WD low riding car made it without bottoming out completely. Campsites are nicely spaced out for the most part.

And I must go every time we're in Steamboat the last few decades... It's changed a lot and much easier to get down with groomed paths, almost accessible for all. Absolutely beautiful in the winter too, with snowshoes.

This first lot is good if you don't feel confident in your vehicle going farther, though plenty of sedans go past here.

Do not bring a four-place snowmobile trailer and a big truck up here, very limited parking
