On the Rise Bread Company

I ordered a carrot cake for my father's 81st birthday as that is his favorite. I live close to the bakery so I walked there, and the I got a great workout on the way home because the cake was so heavy! The cake was moist and full of flavor, and the cake was covered with real cream cheese frosting which makes all the difference. It was delicious and the best I and my parents have ever had. Sweet but not sicky sweet, and filling but not the kind where you feel sick. I could not recommend them more for your special day or just for a tasty treat!

the food here was great i had a few cookies and some bread but what stood out here was the service everyone here was very friendly and super nice to me. the coffee was ok but i wouldn't have expected too much from that

I discovered On the Rise recently, had walked past it on lunch before but finally decided to give it a try. So happy I did, the location itself is quiet and comfortable, definitely ideal for a nice calm lunch. I had the special which was a pimento cheese grilled cheese and cheddar tomato soup. It was so good, the sandwich was so cheesy and soup really delicious. They have a massy selection of treats like cupcakes and brownies. I will definitely be back and absolutely recommend.

A cute bakery and coffee place! So many options to choose from. The chai latte is delicious and the pizza was amazing! We got the wrong drink but they fixed it for us immediately! We always love coming downtown to visit this store.

I could imagine that there is a better treat than a On the Rise pecan sticky bun, but on a Saturday morning jaunt to the market I would hard pressed to imagine anything better than one of these. Buttery, just sweet enough, and pillowy soft without being cloying or doughy. Well, what are you waiting for?

Wonderfully warm atmosphere. The smell of fresh baked bread instantly reminds you of being at Grandma's while she was baking. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is extremely nice. You can instantly tell that everything baked here is made with love and pride. This is the best place in Roanoke to get amazing fresh baked bread.

Cute shop...good bagel. This place hard to see as it blends in with other shops. Nice place to hang out and have good food.

Wow, awesome sandwiches! Order off the menu or build your own. Price are very fair. Desserts are the bomb.

Tomato cheddar soup was fantastic! My girls had a panini and a sandwich that were both delicious. You can tell that a lot of work and love goes into the food. We enjoyed our visit.

Fast and friendly service! And, they have gluten free options. I got the margherita panini with a gluten free bread, and it was delicious. Next time I plan to try one of their soups too.

Love this little Deli! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! It's a nice escape from the daily grind from work.

We have been in Roanoke for 6 months and I'm so glad I found this bakery. Coming from NY, we have a bit of a snobby attitude towards breads (I'm sorry!) but their sourdough is amazing! I try to get a loaf a week, and it's always gone in a few days. The Rosemary and Kalamata loaves are also super delicious! I also love their potato leek pastry.

We haven't tried many of the dessert items or entree items, but the staff is always very friendly and welcoming!

Tasteful atmosphere and pleasant place to grab something to eat, and best coconut cake I've had in a long while. Try the Italian sandwich with the baguette I feel like the bread really makes the sandwich.

We FINALLY got a chance to stop by this wonderful bakery in Roanoke. We visited the downtown location at about 11:30 am and while we were gawking at all the food options, several people walked in behind us and lined up to be served. So... this place is pretty popular, even though it is relatively small and tucked away in the city market area of downtown. That let us know right away that the food here must be great. The atmosphere is lovely and cozy. The people are kind and helpful and the food we saw looked amazing. We took some treats to go for later in the day and were not disappointed. The lunch options include cold and hot sandwiches, soup and pizza - with many bakery items for sale. We got the feeling that they make a limited amount every day and when it's gone... it's gone. So if you find a favorite item, stop by early to grab it or you might be out of luck. Everything we had was fresh and prepared very well. It's hard to find a really good local bakery that knows their stuff. Stop by and support this business. Your tongue will thank you!

Coffee is really good. Had vegetarian pizza(I am a meat eater) that was awesome! Wife & Daughter had sticky buns that were amazing(Wife gave me a taste of hers)! Son had blueberry muffins that were perfectly done. Extremely friendly Staff!!! Highly recommending eating here & then walking & shopping on the Market, especially on Saturday Mornings!!!

Such a cute place with good food and coffee. Breakfast for two was only $16. I definitely recommend. And it’s right by the farmers market.

This is the greatest bakery and they are nicest people. They made us a cake on such quick notice. It was beautiful and delicious. Thank you. You are all wonderful and the raspberry was out of this world!! We asked for her to make us a rustic cake- it really was exceptional.

The tomato and cheddar soup is unbelievable. So many complex flavors and so rich and creamy. The pizza is thick, crispy, and loaded and cheese and butter. Highly recommend! Side note, the salads are also, supposedly, delicious.

Great cookies! Preachers cookie, sea salt caramel, and oatmeal were yummy. Tried a sample of smoked cheese that was also great.
