Mill Mountain Zoo is always a fun time! It's not a big zoo, but they work with several conservation organizations and do a lot of good!

The Mill Mountain Star overlook is also wonderful to visit at the same time.

Enjoyed visiting the star and finally seeing it up close. I always looked for it as a kid when we would visit our family in Roanoke.

It's nice that there's parking very close that allowed my 86 year old grandmother to get to see it and the city overlook also.

A fun day spent with the family (kids & grandkids). The zoo was fun! The scenery was beautiful. The visitor center was FUN, too. Interactive and enjoyed by the entire family. Staff was great, too...Friendly and knowledgeable.

This was a really nice walk and a really nice over look area I would highly recommend going up and spending some time and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We will definitely stop by again when ever we are back in the Roanoke Virginia area.

A must for anyone living in or visiting Roanoke. The view of the city from the overlook is gorgeous, there's a great little playground for the kids, and there's the iconic Star itself. Do yourself a favor and go enjoy the lovely trails and experience a Roanoke treasure.

What a lovely little stop if you're in the area to catch a beautiful view, especially at sunset. Peer over town and see the sky meet the urban ground and watch twinkles of city lights transition as you stay there from when the sun fades and night creeps in. Great spot for pictures too when the star behind lights up the balcony whilst you have a beautiful backdrop. The car park was pretty full though when I got there! Not a big car park.

My best friend and I hiked the Mill Mountain Star Trail to the summit on Thanksgiving morning. The trail is well maintained, and the view of Roanoke from the Star overlook is breathtaking. There is a restroom facility at the summit, but the urine smell in the men's room is strong enough to burn your nose. Otherwise, it is a great part of Roanoke to visit. I highly recommend it.

The Park was amazing, especially the flower garden, so many flowers, not a ton was bloomed this time of year, but it was a nice little walk through the place, very relaxing, huge tree to see, fairy garden, catapillar nests, and also can get to the Zoo.

Was only able to access the trails and gardens of Mill Mountain Park and not the zoo as we had our little dog with us and the zoo prohibits pets.

The gardens area was absolutely beautiful. Extremely well maintained. For the most part we wore our masks. Some others did as well, some did not.

I was pushing my daughter in her wheelchair on the trails. It was a little tiring at times but there are areas on the trails to sit, rest and just appreciate the peacefully beautiful surroundings. If you plan to go in a wheelchair plan to have an energetic, reasonably strong individual to assist you. Unless you're on the pavement you won't be able to navigate the trails by yourself.

There is a parking lot at no cost but on this Saturday afternoon we had to wait a bit before a spot opened up. There are just a few handicapped spots available.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on this free weekend outing and it was nice to be outside around folks enjoying the day as well.

The observation deck gives an awesome view of Roanoke and the surrounding park is very pretty and has plenty of room to walk around. Have to admit, the star seemed smaller than I imagined, even up close, but still, it’s an iconic destination and a tribute, so I think it’s worth the stop if in the area.

By far this overlook provides the best views of Roanoke. The star is massive and can be seen for miles. There are lots of things to do up there and getting up close and personal with the star is highly advised! ⭐

Great view! The star is actually the world's largest man-made in history and it has a camera at the top where you can see yourself on the website. Cool trails, awesome discovery center and overall a great time! Just watch out for those ear pops😉😂

Fabulous little zoo.
The presentation of the lizard & chinchilla just amazed the kids.
We love to bring them early in the day, before it's too hot, so the animals are active.

We shall return soon! ♥

This might be the city's best park. There are great views of the valley from several points, particularly from the platform at the star.
There are several trails with varying degrees of difficulty and a trail map in the parking area. Keep in mind they are not paved and will be muddy after rain!
If you are interested in plants, the wildflower garden is worth a visit and is a short walk from the parking lot.
Park also includes a playground and picnic tables as well as the Discovery Center. The zoo entrance is through the park but does have an admission fee .
