This bakery was bustling when we arrived. There was a long line but it moved quickly. The selection of breads and pastries was expansive, but we got a cinnamon roll and a cardamom cake. The pastries were soft but flaky, packed with spices and flavor. The staff were very sweet as well, offering extra pastries and friendly conversation.

Literally the only good sandwiches with genuinely good bread and ingredients in the San Francisco Bay Area. Just as good as Europe where bread is extremely important. I can't think of any sandwich place in the Bay Area that pays attention to their sandwich bread (don't be fooled by dutch crunch or sourdough... it's not really good bread). The ingredients are superb too and high quality even though they don't have to. The best food in the area by far!

As a comparison to other major wholesale suppliers (who also do retail) in San Francisco, Acme is tier 1, but at a price. You’ll find Semifreddi’s to be a par-baked version (that you can finish at home quickly, for a fresher texture and flavor) at a lower price (though not organic, like Acme) — these two are about the only brands at a grocer that I’d recommend.

Whatever you do, Boudin — which is underwhelming and expensive — can be easily skipped. Even Paul Hollywood was rightly disappointed in his youtube trip to San Francisco (it’s a good episode in its own right). Their bread is made into various shapes to distract from its middling quality.

Since no one has actually posted a retail menu, I’ve contacted them and done so here. (Their on-site menu is comprosed of little signs in each bread). It’s updated as of 1/1/24.

Prices seem to have increased 25-80% since covid, but I understand. As I assume that they pay reasonable wages to boot.

All bread are good! I love love love the cranberry walnut loaf. If I can only get one thing this would be it. Other recommendations: olive roll, twinkle, pain epi, and the baguettes(sour, sweet, rustic...whatever, all taste good!). I also like the mushroom and jalapeno turnovers.

When you gotta have good carbs, go to Acme.
They have the best pastries in the city. You can not go wrong here.
Shortbread cookies are delicious and so is the amazing bread selection.
The line moves quickly. The only downside is they can’t slice the bread for you.

I love Acme bread. I usually get Pain de mie, sour loaf, sourdough cheese roll (like the one in the picture), and sometimes the vanilla madeleines.

I make my own breakfast at home using their breads. I don’t come by everyday so what I do is I buy about 5 loaves that I slice, bag in pairs with ziplock, and freeze at home. I then thaw and toast them when it’s time to make a breakfast sandwich.

They also sell day old bread, wrapped or bagged properly for half the price. When you come by especially in the morning, check their day old items which are usually on the left side wall shelf. I tried a day old Pain de Mie once and it’s as good as the freshly baked ones.

They don’t have price tags on their breads so you have to ask if you’re curious.

Best place to get fresh bread of all kinds! They have a lot of options for you to choose, from Madeleine to olive bread. They also have sandwiches served on a baguette for breakfast/lunch, really delicious!
Staff is really friendly and prices are good. I’d definitely come back whenever I get the chance to get my fresh and tasty bread of the day!

For someone that prefers the European bread style, this place offers a great assortment that is both fresh and tasty.

Revisiting this bakery after many years and the quality has stayed the same. Also the sandwiches are more European style - based on a fresh baguette with real butter and filling such as salami, cheese and vegetables.

Apple turnover bread was very delicious. This was my first time to try this bread shop.

Looking forward to try more breads in the menu. Thank you for the wonderful service.
God bless.

Beautiful place, we tried the olives sourdough bread 9/10, little cheese breads 10/10, the baguette 🥖8/10 and two of masa de hojaldre with mushrooms and another with jalapeño 100/10 (my favorites!) . Everything was really good 😊

They have a large selection of breads. If you come on Saturday they also have a stall outside in the farmers market. There’s usually a line on weekends but it moves quickly. We also get their loaves at Whole Foods

I come here regularly to pick up a loaf of bread for a week, usually the cranberry and walnut bread, which is fantastic. I found the cashiers are always friendly and are great at recommendations when you want to try something new. Avoid Saturdays if you don't want to wait in line.

I was gifted a loaf of olive bread and even 5 days old it was stand alone against other bakers’ breads. I cannot wait to return to SF and try other selections from this purveyor.

Holy wow this bakery is just a dream. I haven't tasted bread this good since I was a kid. Literally, every bread seems like it was crafted with care. The staff is so friendly and looks like they actually like being there. Nothing to hate here whatsoever.

Best pastries we had all trip this was amazing. We had the spelt with sour cherry biscuits. We had the cardamom muffin and we had also the plum muffin. They are small that is why we try 3 items absolutely worth it and the guys are super friendly. Wish I had them in my city. Just wonderful bakers.

Hands down the best overall bakery in San Francisco. This small Ferry building store offers an impressive variety of bread from sourdough to rye to challah, and a decent selection of pastries including croissants, cinnamon roll, puffs, cookies, and turnovers. I've tried many of their breads so far, as well as butter croissant, ham and cheese turnover, creamy puffs, and lunch sandwich. Everything at Acme is on point, and it's a lot fun to try something new every time I come here. Service is always super friendly and prices are really reasonable.

I wish this Berkeley based bakery has more locations in the city (unfortunately this is the only one). Whole Foods carries Acme but jacks up the price way too much. I wouldn't mind a nice stroll to Ferry Building on a nice day just for Acme's fantastic bread.
