Visiting this place for the first time. A very calm and serene experience. I would suggest to book the parking ahead of time as this place has limited parking slots. This place is kids friendly. The difficulty level for the trail is easy and can be completed within 3 hours. The visitor center has cute souvenir shop and a cafe. A must visit place when you’re in and around San Francisco

Gorgeous and peaceful place. I went at 8 am. on a weekday and had the place mostly to myself for a little bit. These beautiful and amazing trees are so captivating. Parking reservations are required, and I got the 3rd spot closest to the visitor center. There's an entrance fee for the park itself too, but I used my annual national park pass.

There is a calm, serene, mystical energy about Muir Woods. Not only is it stunning and lush with greenery but the quiet of the woods and beauty of Mother nature draws you to keep walking and exploring and just gasping in awe at these old green silent giants. The fallen trees are also a beauty themselves and create new corridors for other species. Yes, parking can be a drag but we've gotten lucky the three times to find parking. All that stress about parking is forgotten though, when you start walking along side those ancient Redwoods, listening to water gushing in the streams and creeks. We could stay forever!

Even if you go 30mins or so after your alotted time, they will allow you into the parking lot. I've called ahead twice just to let them know I was still coming but I don't think I needed to.

There is barely any wildlife here but we go for the redwood and serenity.

Even though there might be a crowd sometimes, you are still able to enjoy a lot of areas with quiet. People aren’t really loud there.
The gift store is expensive, typical of any park.
If you get the annual pass and plan to visit a few times then it is definitely worth it.

It's a beautiful corner in the middle of the forest. Virgin trees and land. Easy to get there, just follow the signs.
It is very important to make a reservation for the parking lot before you get there, there is no phone signal. Otherwise, they won't let you get in, but you have the option to keep driving about 5 miles ahead to find a phone signal.
The place is absolutely fantastic and magical. If you want to do a 1 hour hike in the main track, it is just perfect to clear your mind and relax.
There is inside also a coffee and gift shop, also restrooms.

Beautiful landscapes and redwoods. It’s a bit expensive of a fare to get in (~40$ for 2 adults on the weekend) but good to know it’s going towards meaningful use. Rangers are all friendly and they even had some stops where rangers were explaining historical context. Trails aren’t too difficult at all, very flat friendly.

I know that Sequoias and Redwood Giants are more impressive but the Muir Woods has some special atmosphere about them almost like it was enchanted. Just make sure that you go off the main trail to avoid most of us, two and a half million tourists, who visit this place every year. A nice and easy loop, around 5 kilometres, is Camp Eastwood trail that leads to Canopy View and Fern Creek trails. Aha, and do not come here in the summer! Enjoy.

You will feel closer to heaven here. Such a majestic place. The park is so well kept. They seem to be busy working on fixes and regular maintenance that needs attention. It might mean a part of a trail is out, but don’t worry, the staff can fill you in before you head out on your adventures.

Beautiful national monument with boardwalk paths and dirt hiking trails of various lengths from 1 to 4 hrs and terrain changes. Many opportunities to get right up to redwoods of various sizes and stages of growth. Parking should be reserved ahead to park near park entrance. Good in any season and for all ages and abilities. There is a small cafe serving hot food and drinks as well as a gift shop with many souvenirs options.

A very pleasant trip. I went there in a scheduled trip with the Gray Line San Francisco organized Muir Woods & Sausalito Tour (can find it in Booking of all places too). It was truly an hour and a half of relax in between bucolic and soothing sounds, of water flowing, leaves dancing and all in all so many beautiful sights. Also, it is very close to San Francisco (much closer than other similar giant sequoia parks). For an optimal visit I'd suggest to go there and stay for over 2 hours as the place is quite huge.

It is similar to Big Basin redwood park but it is bigger and the trail is along the creek, which is more fun. The main trail is easy and short, and is wheelchair friendly. You must reserve your parking in advance if you plan to drive. You also need to buy tickets to get in as National Park. The place is well maintained. There are a lot of giant redwoods. There are also a lot of trails one can explore.

It was beautiful and well kept. I love that it's stroller friendly, that was everything for me and my little family! There are other hikes more challenging that are obviously not stroller friendly, but overall it was well worth the trip. You have to pay for parking in advance and select a 30 min window for arrival which makes the whole thing work out super smoothly. Make sure to save the QR code in advance because reception is not the best once you are there.

Beautifully amazing trees. Took an easy hike to the 3rd bridge to take in these amazing trees. Redwood Creek was really flowing because of the rain. Really felt I was alone with nature because the weather kept the number of visitors low that day. Be ready for a very curvy highway to get in and out of the Muir Woods. A definite place to visit if you are in the San Francisco area. So glad I went.

Heaven on earth! An extensive, paved, winding path with multiple bridges and route options is available for those with ADA needs. Banana Slugs can be found if you keep your eyes peeled! On our August visit, we saw 5 (4 babies on a tree,) and on our December visit, we saw 2 and wild turkeys in the parking lot! The Junior Ranger book here is a real treat! Can't wait to come back!

This is well kept and is situated in Sab Fransisco. I will recommend to wear jackets and woolen caps if you're visiting during the winter season. This was a fun experience for me to walk inside these woods and being surrounded by 200 feet tall trees. There's a cafe and restrooms available as well. However, they close around 5pm.

Let’s put it this way, visiting Muir Woods is a once in a lifetime experience. I say this because there are many places to see redwood trees and sequoias in and around the Bay Area. In fact, there’s an even bigger forest in Northern California that you can make a long trek to. But, this is the most accessible old growth grove I know of and it’s the most popular destination among folks visiting the Bay Area for a reason.

Having lived in the Bay Area for a nice chunk of time let me give you a few tips:

1. Stop talking. 🙊
Seriously, no one will remember the conversation, focus on the environment. It’s very annoying to hear someone blabbing a hundred feet away about who cares.

2. Plan ahead. 🗺
This place used to be mobbed every day and thank goodness they put a serious offer visitation and parking restrictions to protect the park.

3. Buy something. 🌲
In fact, buy something from the booth you get tickets at. It goes directly to the park and they have some of the coolest, limited edition stuff you’ll find.

4. Stop and look. 👀
There are some species you won’t see anywhere else. The staff has done an outstanding job maintaining the park and it’s worth smelling fresh air and taking a few beats to appreciate everything.

5. Look up ⬆
Being from the NYC area, I’m always astonished that there’s some stigma associated with looking up (the fastest way to let people know you’re a tourist). Guess what? You are a tourist and there are beautiful architectural features in NYC and within the canopy of the redwood grove.

6. Don’t forget to take pictures 📸
It can be easy to be overwhelmed by the beauty, stop and take some pictures and grab a few videos.

7. Don’t step off the boardwalk 🚷
Seriously. I see people quickly jumping off the boardwalk to take pictures. Don’t do that, there are creatures who live on the forest floor and you’re stomping on their homes with your lame travel crocks.

8. Ask questions 🤔
There are rangers everywhere and they have very interesting things to tell you. Ask questions and FOR SURE join a tour if your timing is good.

9. Fall in love 🥰
Find something to fall in love with while you’re in the park. Trees, birds, banana slugs; there are loads of things to notice, remember, and obsess over for years to come.

10. Have fun, take your time 🕰
Don’t rush through the park, it isn’t a race. Spend at least an hour here, start on the main boardwalk entrance, walk some amount of time, cross a bridge, and then walk back. There are lots of options depending on how much time you have and your ability to walk.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk on Muir Woods. While living in the Bay Area my wife and I became members and we spent a lot of time here. It means the world to us and we hope you feel the same. 🌲 ❤

✨ Bonus advice: thanks for reading the whole review! Here’s some bonus advice… Get there AS SOON AS THEY OPEN. you’ll thank me later, this place gets busy and it’s a totally different experience.

Came here with my fiance yesterday. This place is amazing!! It's so beautiful and it smells awesome, like pines and lemons. The Redwoods are quite a site to see! They are massive and seeing them everywhere, it almost doesn't even look real! We had an awesome time hiking in here.
