Wayfare Tavern

This is a nice 1900s upscale restaurant. Attended my brothers wedding reception there. The place was small and intimate. The reception was held upstairs on a different floor. Was nice set up , the food and service was great. The fried chicken , baked Mac and cheese, salmon was a must try. The cocktails are delicious. I enjoyed the reception over all. Dress to impress, you have to find parking around the restaurant pay at meters. Definitely need to come back and try over dishes here. Highly recommend it.

This upscale tavern sports both a bar and a chef's bar where you can watch the kitchen staff work their magic. The decor invokes a nicer European pub and the food beats one.

I ordered the tavern burger (add Sunnyside egg) and an Old Fashioned and was treated with a popover while I waited. The popover was excellent with a chewy exterior and moist, delicate interior which paired well with their whipped butter. I decided to add a side of fried chicken after watching the cooks fry it.

Both the burger (with fries) and side of fried chicken came out at the same time. It was all perfectly cooked: the best fried chicken I've had in California, an amazingly tender burger with excellent bacon and a runny egg which was messy but well worth it. If I had to critique something, their house beef blend was so delicate that the amazing bacon hid the beef flavor -- perhaps a bison or elk blend patty would be the cherry on top. The Old Fashioned (with Eagle Rare as recommended by my server Jaime) complimented the meal perfectly.

I finished with their donuts which blew my mind; fresh with both a vanilla creme fraiche and blueberry dipping sauce was incomparable to any donut I've had before.

I will definitely return again and try more items from their mouthwatering menu.

Great tavern atmosphere, inviting and cozy but upscale enough so that it feels special. We had lunch for 4 and had made reservations a few days ahead. The purple rain gin cocktail was one of the better cocktails I've had in awhile. The popovers were fresh, flaky, and light. We shared deviled eggs and crab. Again, the deviled eggs were some of the best I've had in a long time. Mains were the mussels, chicken sandwich, and salmon. All were very good, especially the broth that the mussles were served in, and the crispy skin on the salmon and the eggplant puree it came with. Will definitely head back for the food and great service.

Upscale American restaurant with attentive service, great wine and beer selection, and delectable menu items. Tavern Burger and Fried Chicken are a must. Beef Wellington special was also nicely done. Only minor complaint - bread pudding desert was just ok, not great.

We enjoyed a night on the town and the Wayfair Tavern lived up to our expectations. The burger, chicken, and pop overs were delicious but the honey squash soup, oysters, and cheesecake were stand outs. The cheesecake was high in the rankings for the best cheesecake ever. The service was especially fantastic.

A welcoming, warm and cozy place with a great and delicious food and warily of drinks, albeit a little bit crowded during lunch time but it is worth it.
A good place to visit and enjoy the burger or the fried chicken sandwiches with a drink or two.
Don’t miss sitting at the bar when crowded. You won’t be disappointed.

12/21/23. Great restaurant in the Financial District. Food, wine and cocktails are top notch. The only minus for our party of 5 was that we had 6:30pm reservations and had to wait until almost 7pm to be seated. Good neighborhood too.

Service was impeccable here, very attentive and professional. Cute cozy set up. The food is of high quality and their expresso martini was so yum! We ordered a good amount of food and truly enjoy their devil eggs (must try)!!!

Famous chicken and popovers did not disappoint.

The place was amazing! I ordered the Tavern Burger and it was cooked perfectly. I substituted the fries for the Sour Cream & Onion Tater Tots, definitely recommend doing that.
My wife ordered the Fried Chicken and it was also delicious.
One of the highlights was the fresh croissant popover that came out in the beginning.

Wow! This was just as amazing as I remember it from almost 10 years ago. The fried chicken and hamburger is still so, so delicious and a must get. The service was top notch and we stayed almost 45 minutes after closing but they never tried to push us out.

We were a group of 5 that came here on a Thursday night around 7pm and had to wait an hour to get seated. We just went to get a drink at a nearby bar and it all worked out.

Love this place! Amazing ambiance. We came later at night and they accommodated us. The hostess Rocio is so sweet! Our waiter was also amazing and the food and wine were great!

This place was amazing. Little more on the pricey side but worth it. Even got to meet the owner who we saw helping his team. Always nice to see. We had the salmon and fried chicken and oh my it was amazing. Our waitress was amazing. Told us about the building and how it was a bank. You have to go to experience it yourself.

They seem to have mastered the timing of having a business lunch. Fuss-free menu with a great wine selection which gets you in and out within an hour. Everything on the menu is well executed and you can’t go wrong with the organic fried chicken, the burger and the mac and cheese. Just try not to eat too many popovers with that amazing butter, else you won’t have any space for lunch! 😁

We had our wedding luncheon here and it was perfect. We rented the Billiards Room and it was intimate and quiet enough to where all our guests (10) could converse. The food was awesome- best burger I’ve ever had, seriously- and the service was spectacular. Also very reasonable pricing. I can’t recommend enough!!! Also- try the Banoffee Tart. So yummy!

All I can say is wow! My cocktail was incredible and very sippable, letting it last while I enjoyed my food and good company. For appetizers, all of the shakshuka deviled eggs, steak tartare, and bone marrow were exquisite with the bone marrow by far my favorite. The fried chicken entree was great and much larger than anticipated, unfortunately leaving no room for dessert. All-in-all, I highly recommend this place!

The gold standard of high end dining. Nothing comes out of the kitchen that isn’t perfect. The service is ultra polished and the atmosphere of the joint is extremely classy. 11/10 would recommend if you’re looking for a low key place to look down upon the proletariat.

We sat at the kitchen bar. Ginger was our server. We ordered a half dozen oysters, the NY Strip special, and the beef short rib. The service was well-timed, friendly and fun. The food was superb. Our cocktails and wine were on point. Next time we are getting the Tavern Burger and Donuts for dessert!! It was really nice being able to watch the kitchen prepare our food. Very clean and very professional. Highly recommend!!!

Wow, this place was fantastic. Great food, large portions. I didn't have reservations for a late lunch about 2pm. I was sat kitchen side up at the bar. I really enjoyed watching their staff meticulously prepare everyone's food. The kitchen was super clean and the entire staff paid attention to detail. I ordered the chicken sandwich which was excellent and the fries were the best I ever tasted. My dining partner had the Turkey sandwich which she also said was the best ever. The popovers where super good too, just loved them. All of the other dishes they were preparing looked really yummy too.
The only two small negatives was the slow inattentive service but I realize they were busy. I ordered a Lemon drop and at that price point it should be in at least a normal size martini glass not a tiny old school champagne glass. But overall loved it! Next time will make reservations!
