Really nice shady park with brick paths throughout. A few athletic fields & a disc golf course plus the playground. Lots of different things in the playground and the equipment is new and in good shape. Great playground for kids of all ages.

Beautiful place for a morning walk! There is a smorgasbord of possibilities here. Bring a frisbee for a round of golf, a basketball or baseball equipment for a game, a dog to play in the dog park, a mat for some yoga on the stage or meditate in the fountain garden. Thanks Roanoke City for providing and maintaining!

Boyfriend plays once a week here and he loves it. The disc golf course is very well maintained as well as the park in general. Beautiful and we love it!

Wasn't a fan in the past but grew on me more and more. Best small disc golf course in our area. Dogs love it, too. You'll always hear one barking happily from their owners' car as if they're saying "were going to the park!" Non stop

Great park in a great neighborhood. It's clean and quiet. They have a great playground for the kids. There is lots of room for picnics if that's what you are looking for. The only thing that I can say would make it better is if they put up a pavilion and some grills.

Very nice facility with a good area for the dogs to run in. The floor is small gravel and grass. Even in the off hour of when I went, there were plenty of dogs for mine to play with. People and dogs were very friendly.

Roanoke Paw Watch at Highland Park was a great event with a great message. Keep your ears and eyes open as you're walking your dog and notice anything that doesn't seem right. Call 911. All the four-legged furry kids seem to have a good time. There was even a pie eating contest for the furry kids.

Absolutely beautiful!! We played disc golf at this park. It was extremely clean, well maintained and a welcome challenge with some flat holes but mostly smaller hills. In addition there is a bike trail hidden behind the main park as well as walking trails. My grandaughter enjoyed the play area as well as riding her electric powered car and new scooter on the asphalt path surrounding the front of the park. Great Family park with a lot of options for everyone.

Very well planned out park site. Off street parking conveniently located along car pass that runs through park "10mph max please" Parent parking nearby entrance next to children's area, ya know. The jungle gym, play castle, whatever you want to call it. Spacious greenway with just enough tall trees for lots of cool shaded areas. Tennis, basketball, live concert area and yes even public amenities on site. Enjoy a walk on the brick path, I know my pup and I did!

Highland Park is probably my favorite park in Roanoke. It's got pretty much everything you could ask for in a park. When you turn onto the road to enter the park you'll first see the fountain area. They haven't turned it on yet for the summer but it's a really cute little area that has a few unique stone benches(maybe concrete but pretty, not just slabs). Great area for taking pictures (maybe pop the question?! )
The playground has two separate structures, one is large with a lot of different climbing options, instead of the usual the fireman type pole has a spiral pole that you can get on and spin in circles as you descend the pole 😯😅 super fun. A couple of decent size slides. Next to that is the smaller set if that's more your speed, mostly slides. No pole.
The playground area is covered with mulch. Large puddles do tend to gather in the area below the big kid swings(2), though the swings for littles(also 2) stays mostly dry. There are two large-ish picnic tables where you can park your stuff, your people, eat food. If the tables are taken or if you just don't want to take up a table by yourself, a respectably sized, semi-flat rock is also available for your seating needs. But the playground is just the beginning!! Buckle up buttercup, because if you get back on the road and keep going, on the right you'll come up on the dog park. It includes an "off-leash" area enclosed by a chain link fence where your pup can safely run free.
On the opposite side of the road you'll see a large hill with a building that houses the park's restroom. The restrooms are currently locked. But on the other side of the bathrooms you'll find the basketball and tennis courts, baseball fields and a small skate park with some "play at your own risk" types of equipment. Exciting! There's also a large, flat, grassy area, good for anything, picnics and cloud watching, or soccer and football. Finally if you return to the road, near the end you'll spot the gazebo. It's historical and has a plaque, as does the area next to it which has a fire pit (which stays locked but I think you can call parks and rec for the key) as well as 4 benches that surround the pit. Also there's a small two-story house in that area of the park, I have no idea what that's about. I'll check it out and update with pictures.
Oh and there's a little stage/platform thing next to the dog park. As you go through the park you may notice there are disc golf goals, spread throughout. They're kinda weird looking made of metal and chains almost like a metal basketball hoop on a pole, with a yellow band across the top. We're hoping to get some of the discs and try it out soon!
Hope this helps someone, it's really a nice backdrop for a nice sunny day outside.

Great City Park. Playgrounds for the kiddos, tennis courts, football/rugby field, plenty of paths to walk amongst some HUGE old trees, an old mansion at one end you can tour, a Frisbee golf course and a large well maintained dog park. The grounds are beautiful, well kept, and include views of the surrounding mountains as well as the Roanoke River. Parking is plentiful, lighting is good, and the park and its thru road are accessible from several bordering streets.

The dog park has complimentary poop bags and water, and there is a separate small section for smaller (<40 lbs) dogs. Fenced, partially paved, plenty of shade and benches. Double gated for safer ingress/egress. Nicely done.

There is some ADA compliant parking adjacent to the brick paved pathways thru the park. There are plenty of rubbish bins (er, trash cans) and I've never seen them overflowing or unattended.

The Park has been a park for over 100 years. It's one of the largest and nicest in the City. Whether you're a Noke dweller or just passing through, I'd recommend giving it a try and spend a relaxing hour there.

One of my favorite parks in the area. Has some great tennis courts that are well maintained and a good basketball court that is usually not too busy. The skate park is another good addition. Also very fun to do is the 9 hole disc golf course. Sometimes the disc golf can get a little busy during nice weather. It is usually pretty serene and peaceful; make sure to visit the dog park if you have a dog. Be a little wary that some homeless like to visit the park, though they are usually peaceful and keep to themselves.

I love this park. They do an excellent job of keeping it a viable venue for recreation with it's disc golf course. They have an excellent wooden stage and an amphitheater type area that my church meets in during the pandemic when the weather is permitting. They keep the grass mowed and have an excellent section for people with dogs who want to walk them and train them and run them. It is an excellent experience going to this park.

Cool little park. Mulch playground with 2 play sets, lots of slides, 2 baby swings/2 regular, 2 picnic tables, trees for shade. Flat field on top of hill, small skate park, decent fenced in dog area, walking paths throughout, and a fun 9 hole disc golf course- mainly par 3s with a couple 4s

Great place to take little kids since they have a nice playground, which is also used by the school across the street during school hours. Great place to take the dog since they have a dog park, one area for small dogs and one for bigger ones. There is a baseball diamond, and even a small area that many use for a skate park on top.

We went to the dog park for the first time. Murphy loved it. We will go back. I appreciated the doggie bags provided to pick up his poo. Meet some great people as well. Everyone was nice. I also liked that there was a separate section for the bigger dogs over 20 lbs.

Highland Park is great fun for any age with different activities around. From hoops and tennis to skate boarding and frisbee golf or simply have a walk/jog around the park down some brick, dirt, and paved areas. Don't forget the fields, also great for group activities wich will leave fun enjoyable memories for years to come or for those fetching days with your favorite pet. Yes there is a dog park also. Next time you go to a park, think, Highland Park.
