So authentic. Great beer selection. Take their beer recommendations very seriously. Special glasses and all.
But their food…… the best tomato soup I’ve ever had. Unique combination of flavors for their specials and the menu. Was able to meet both owners…. One is the chef and the other specializes in the beer offerings. Very personable. Just the kind of place you think of when thinking of quintessential Vermont.

Right off 89...cute Waterbury village. Great friendly service from Steve....quick lunch. Portions and flavors amazing! Best shisito peppers with sesame aioli. Loved the shrimp appetizer. Sandwiches were unique and fresh ingredients. Great beer selection ( we didn't drink but cute chalkboard display) . Very friendly service...will be back!

Parking is tough. Mostly on street or at a pay lot. But the food is worth it. I had a Patriot Burger, one of the best burgers I've ever had! The staff was extremely attentive and helpful. I'd go back anytime...if I didn't live 200 miles away.

Went to this place to watch soccer and grab a pint, came back the next day for food and more beer.

Excellent local craft beer selection on tap. They also have a lukr tap with two different beers on tap - would definitely recommend trying one.

Amazing service both days. First day we sat at the bar. Second day we got a table.

We ordered the nachos, pulled pork sandwich and a mac and cheese. All the dishes were amazing. The nachos were the best I've ever had! We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

Came back in November 2023, one year later, this place still rocks. Best nachos ever. Also got the jerk chicken wrap which was amazing. Also highly recommend the scallops, brussel sprouts and mac & cheese.

Erin and another gent were our bartenders. Incredibly jovial and great service. Very knowledgeable about beer and cocktails. Didn’t eat because staff were delayed due to flooding. Highly recommend this place. We had 5 Manhattans as they were made so well. Fair prices compared to the big dollar places nearby. Unbelievable difference between how you’re treated here as opposed to the angry troll that works across the street at Pro Pig.

Wow, one of the best meals I’ve ever had! Maybe because I was ravenous after a long drive from NJ, but truly - every single thing was absolutely delicious. I had trouble with my selections - lots of creative options! & chill, friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend, you’ll be without regret.

Great dining experience upstairs at Blackback Pub. Very warm, unpretentious space. Wonderful creative menu with something for everyone. A lot of vegan and vegetarian options. The salmon with risotto cake and broccolini was amazing! Everything was spiced perfectly.

The service was great. The bartender was super nice and welcoming. In fact, everyone here was! I ordered the griddled chicken sandwich. The cumin mayo was super flavorful and the chicken was very moist and perfectly cooked. I ordered some good brews and had a great lunch! Will return here!

Searched for a place to bring our dog after hiking. We ran in to check this was okay with the establishment. We lucked out with great weather and an empty little patio area (you do need to bring your dog through one door and quickly out through another). Great beer selection, really fun menu, and friendly staff. The menu seemed to have something for everyone, meat-lovers and plant-based eaters alike.

Beef bao buns, broccolini app, and meatloaf sandwich were all very delicious and super flavorful. We are very happy to have come across such a great place.

No joke perhaps the best food i have had in VT in a Loooong time. Korean pancake was killer. The taco salad was with braised brisket and was just delicious. I tried the dark nitro beer and very flavorful. Service was super friendly and fast. Overall a great experience. A lot on the menu to try next time too.

After travelling for two weeks up the coast from DC and having had eaten everything from fast food to five star I was not looking good forward to another “pub” meal. Boy was I wrong.
As a vegetarian I was amazed to see four vegetarian options as mains (many more as shared plates) that did not include fish! Such a unique menu with amazing flavours that all work so well together.
I won’t stop thinking about this dinner for awhile and I would highly recommend!

Love this restaurant. It’s not far from Stowe, but it’s more reasonably priced.

It's a cozy, unpretentious, casual pub is in a historic building, occupying two floors. The top floor is a bit quieter. (See pics)

It was busy on a Friday night. The staff was friendly and welcoming. There was a cheerful vibe amongst the regulars. It felt a little like a Vermont version of the show Cheers.

Tristan (See pic) was our “waiter”. He elevates this role; making us feel at home. He is more like a knowledgeable friend chatting about the menu.

We ordered nachos (unique because it has a little blue cheese and maple syrup mixed in), caprese salad, bacon corn chowder, tuna tartar, steak, and salmon, (see pictures) Everything was delicious. The steak was INCREDIBLE! I would come here just for that. It's from a local farm and was seasoned perfectly.

This restaurant is for everyone who likes great food without snobbery.

En route to a wedding, we stopped in at Blackback Pub after a hefty rec from a friend. Oh my, do not miss this place-we are so glad we made it part of an epic day! Soulful, cozy, traditional and welcoming, we found seats at a wooden wrap around bar with mega staff ready to take our order. Great local beer list including Hill Farmstead and the food is a big jump above ‘pub food’ with my delicious grilled cheese sandwich coming with a side of raspberry jam for dipping. The chef noticed I enjoyed the combo and told me it was in homage to his Dad, who enjoyed grape jelly with his grilled cheese. How much do you love THAT? The griddled chicken sandwich was irresistible too-perfect in every way. The old world pub charm is alive and well here and we’ll return for more selections from their lively menu.

Great pub. With better food than you'd find in a pub. Had the jerk chicken sandwich which wasn't too spicy but was really delicious. Fantastic selection of micro brewed beer as well.

Looking for a Pro Pig alternative? Go across the street to Blackback tavern, Waterbury’s best kept secret. You will not be disappointed.

Food is out of this world. We had the taco salad with Mexican street corn and barbacoa(think tender beef with southwest seasoning),and the boa buns. The pickled red onions and cilantro was a party in your mouth 🎉🎉 Spicy but safe. Incredibly tasty.
The tavern itself is so cool. Lots of fishing gear(blackback fish). Amazing bar made from re-purposed bowling alley wood. Original beams overhead, brickwork and stonework foundation. It’s a very cool vibe. Give it a try.

Great choice for lunch! Nice atmosphere, nice street view and friendly staff. Steve was our waiter. He was well informed efficient and friendly. The food came out quickly and was delicious. I had a marinade chicken thigh sandwich and fresh tasty salad. Generous portion. My husband had a bbq pork sandwich which was surprisingly delicious. The restrooms were squeaky clean. Overall an excellent lunch.

We (party of 4) got there at about 6:30 on a Friday night, downstairs was packed and the host said there would be an hour wait. Wait was closer to only 1/2 hour and we had a drink from the large list of draft beers. Food was wonderful, I had the blue cheese nachos with maple syrup (wow! Amazing fusion of flsvors!), and the meatloaf sandwich. Everyone was very happy with their food & service. We'll be back for sure!

Simply outstanding! It is apparent in the food and service that the staff here pull together as a team, believe in their menu quality, and enjoy sharing it with their customers. All the boxes check easily 5 stars. Best brazed scallops I've ever had, Fantastic jerked chicken, very fresh taste. The Key lime pie bowl was perfect. Similar raves from entire party.

Another fine drinking and dining experience in the Waterbury, Vermont.
We were looking for some beer and good food so we looked up on Google and decided to try this place. I requested the bartender to suggest one of their Indian Pale Ale (IPA) and he suggested a drink (I forgot the exact name) but it was delicious and I ended up repeating the order.
The place had a very lively buzz with most people seated around the bar counter and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
For food, I tried their special of the day (coconut miso) and a New York strip streak. Both items were super delicious.
I highly recommend this place for great tap beer and excellent food.

We came here on a whim, based on some promising reviews. I'm always a little leery in blindly following online reviews, but figured it was worth a shot... Thankfully, there was zero need to go anywhere else!! When we're traveling we usually ask locals for restaurant suggestions but this time just trusted what we read, and now this will be one of our "must stop" places when in Vermont!!!

We walked in, and were able to grab a seat at the bar quickly and easily. Tristan greeted us immediately- his suggestions for both food and drinks were on point. He made us feel right at home, but also was willing to make beer recommendations when I asked for a little guidance. Plus he was a riot- great sense of humor!!

First, let's discuss the nachos: they're not typical (even if they kind of sound that way) - the blue cheese is a pleasant surprise, but the hint of maple was totally unexpected and OUT OF THIS WORLD. The steak came out perfectly cooked, with an excellent sear and was insanely tender. Normally I don't find sides to be particularly outstanding, but here we are- the potatoes were FREAKING DELICIOUS and the veggies melted in your mouth. Do yourself a favor- ask for the dessert specials and pray they have the cheesecake or the mousse, they were outstanding (and I don't even like cheesecake)!!!

The bar has an awesome vibe- laid back yet fun. However, the thing that makes or breaks a restaurant is it's staff... every single person we met there was welcoming, warm and friendly. They made suggestions when asked and were a wealth of knowledge on beers, liquors and all things local. This is the kind of service that makes people come back- locals and tourists alike!!
