Hummingbird Bar and Kitchen

Everything was good. There signature is not so good but I can’t say bad too. I like there pistachio cake more in dessert. Also for vegetarians there wild mushrooms bolognese pasta is must try. We also love the bbq grilled chicken. Also in appetizers, fried oysters and trio of dips is must try. Perfect for date night.

My husband and I got engaged in August and we knew we wanted to have a small wedding in the fall (two months later!). This all hinged on finding a restaurant that had a good atmosphere, was light and airy, and could handle my dietary restrictions. Hummingbird was our answer - we had a Sunday brunch reception here for 60 people after our midday wedding ceremony. Kenneth was so pleasant to work - he was detail oriented, responsive to emails and meeting requests, and he was able to proactively accommodate many food restrictions. I am gluten, dairy, and egg free and there were many foods (at a brunch!) that I could eat. Kenneth also went back and forth with me on the paper menu I created with GF/DF/etc symbols so I could make sure all my friends/family with dietary restrictions were covered. They also prepared a special plate and got a dessert for our vegan friend.

We had many friends compliment us on the food (I hear the avocado toast was particularly amazing), most of whom I consider to be foodies so I took that as quite high praise. It made us very happy that our friends were full and content - that hasn't always happened to us at weddings so that was really important to us when we were planning.

We ended up doing a full restaurant buy out and a partial patio buy out. There was a baby shower on the other portion of the patio which they had put up a tent for since it was early November. Our photographer and some guests got confused by the second event - it blocked the main entry vestibule so people missed all the signage for our event and also no one wanted to hang out at the outside tables even though the weather was beautiful. My recommendation would be to try to also do a full patio buy out so you aren't sharing any outdoor space and it's just your event. All in all, though, I highly recommend!

My husband and I had our intimate wedding ceremony on the patio followed by a larger wedding reception inside at Hummingbird last weekend. Kenneth and his team were easy to communicate with and were very attentive during the day. Everything went perfectly. The food was great and the location was wonderful. I would definitely recommend hosting you wedding or other events at Hummingbird.

The food here is actually fantastic; my husband and I have never been disappointed and have gotten a wide variety of items (fish, roasted chicken, meatloaf, etc.). The hummingbird cake is awesome, of course, and the atmosphere is cute and you can see the water. My favorite part about this place is that as long as they’re not hosting an event like a wedding, it’s actually pretty easy to get a table compared to other Old Town restaurants and the vibe is more relaxed/calm because it’s not as busy.

This restaurant is one of Old Town’s fine dinning staple establishments. Anytime I make it to the Waterfront I come to grab a bite and cocktail here. Fantastic location, view, decor, staff, and of course drinks and food. Today we had lobster bisque and Hummingbird cake, both were delicious, high quality and great recommendations from our bartender. I also enjoyed an excellent gin cocktail recommendation from staff and wow great choice! I cannot wait to be back, always excellent energy and delicious bites.

We had our 10/14/2023 wedding at
Hummingbird. Everything was wonderful! The manager, Kenneth, is extremely responsive and easy to work with. He did a ton of the heavy lifting for us. He worked with us to tailor our food and drink menus, and he really took our preferences into consideration. The food was spectacular and the drinks were amazing. The space itself is also beautiful, and even with a cloudy day, we had a great view of the river.
The evening also went seamlessly - we can't thank them enough. Highly recommend.

We ended and started a few of our days here while staying the the hotel. The food was always good and the drinks were better. The staff were all very nice and fun to be around. The view from the restaurant was awesome in the morning looking out over the river. Definitely a location to stop at even if you are not staying at the hotel.

We hosted our wedding reception at the Hummingbird restaurant in June 2022. Kenneth and his team exceeded expectations and made sure everything was perfect for our special day! We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from all our guests on the venue, the food, and the staff! We are so pleased that we went with Hummingbird for our wedding and we would recommend it to anyone who is planning their wedding in Old Town Alexandria!

This was my second visit and I enjoyed the service given very much.

Glows: The eggs taste phenomenal. They were cooked to perfection. I have never enjoyed my eggs more. And no additional seasoning was needed.

Lows: The cinnamon rolls are inconsistent. Our first batch were large, risen, and very moist. Our second batch was flat, dense, and seemed a bit off.

Went to dinner here with significant other for anniversary and had a wonderful time. we had the whole Branzino fish which was amazing, cocktails and wine followed by their delicious Hummingbird cake. The staff was great, servers very attentive and the manager made sure that we were doing ok throughout our meal.

We came to Hummingbird for Alexandria Restaurant week but ended up ordering off their regular menu. Our table overlooked the Potomac River, our waiter Vlad was excellent, and the atmosphere of the place was really nice. The Heirloom Tomato salad as an appetizer was outstanding (the peaches!). My vegetarian fiancée loved the Ratatouille (with a side of pasta!) for her meal and I went with the Spanish Mussels with Shrimp which were delicious. For dessert, we topped it off with the Hummingbird Cake, which contains pineapple, honey, banana, lemon and generally tastes amazing. Highly recommend and we will be coming back!

The food was absolutely delicious! Catch of the day was wonderful, service was friendly and the view was amazing. It's a quite river-view restaurant and we were quite happy when we left!

I had my birthday here and it was a great experience. We got a back room and everything without even asking. Great staff and great service.

My friends and I went for winter restaurant week! I enjoyed my entire meal: the prickly pear cocktail, winter salad, bbq chicken (with Mac n cheese and sauteed kale), and the hummingbird cake. There were clean plates all around the table!

It was poring this past Tuesday and we were hungry after pulling a long work day in the area. We almost walked past this place but boy were we glad we didn't. We were a party of 8 and were seated at the corner table with the best waterfront view. Service was exceptional for the area. Our waiter was friendly and helpful in both beer and food selection. I had their rabbit potpie and few of us ordered their whole brenzino fish. The food was awesome. This place is a hidden gem in the area. Go check it out!

Quality of food is high and seafood fresh. Restaurant is part of the hotel so it's not very marked from the street. But once you get in, it's nicely decorated and right by the river.

Sunday brunch. Wow. The decor, the location, the hospitality and the food. Reasonably priced and good portions. They also have a long bar with a few TVs. Can’t wait to come back.

The staff are so wonderful, the food outstanding! Dinner was great for our party, then breakfast with view of Potomac River so delicious and relaxing! You have to come and check this out!!!💕❤💕

Our family had dinner Sunday night and we had the best time! Service, food and atmosphere was amazing! Breakfast this morning top notch!!

Stopped In on a day off for lunch by the water and was not disappointed. Both the view was great, weather was good and the food fantastic! I grabbed the double cheeseburger with comeback sauce and it was to die for. Perfectly cooked, just greasy enough, crisp bacon, highly recommend stopping here if in town.
