We love this store. The owners and the staff are always very helpful. They carry the best brands. Everything is quality. They usually have a good range of sizes and colors. Great place to get climbing, hiking, and backpacking gear. They have a wide selection of Prana pants and other Prana clothing which I really like. They carry other brands like North Face, Ibex, outdoor research, Mountain Hardware, and Kuhl. They have a consignment area which is really nice if you have slightly used outdoor gear you need to get rid of they can help you sell it. You can also find barely worn or new clothing in the consignment area if you look.

Get your Black Diamond gear, ropes, and biners here. Great service. Great people. .... if the resident dog doesn't like you: please leave . Great selection of backpacks and sleeping bags . .... a little something for everyone (outdoor enthusiasts) .

I have been looking for a pair of hiking boots for quite some time. Walked into this store and was amazed at the selection. The staff was extremely helpful in showing me the different boots and sharing what each one had to offer. I really liked knowing that the staff was not just knowledgeable about the specs of the products, but also use them as well.

Incredibly helpful and friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, great selection of products, and a very cute and well mannered dog! 10/10 store, definitely recommend if you need any outdoorsy gear. Renting is also fantastic to have as an option for those big ticket items.

Looks like a small shop, but there's 2 levels & and they have it all! & the staff is very helpful & knowledgeable.

wow, what can I say. I love stores like this one. And this one is one of the best I have been to. They have it all, great hiking clothes, all the gear you could imagine for a backpacking or camping trip. And not just gear, but really good, quality gear!
I stopped in here several weeks ago when I visited the Black Hills to get away from the cold in Minnesota (yes, the weather was 50 degrees warmer than when I left!)
The staff were friendly, courteous, helped me when I needed it, told me stories about visits to my home town (Northfield) and they knew there gear! I ended up buying a Royal Robbins shirt which has quickly become one of my favorites. I will be back that way in a week to celebrate my birthday at Bear Butte. I can assure you I will stop by Roam'n Around again and add something (maybe several things) to my collection.

I can't say enough good things about our experience at Roam'n Around! It is such a fun store to browse with a wide selection of merchandise. Everyone there is super friendly and helpful. We especially appreciated Bridget's help in selecting and fitting rock climbing shoes for my husband and son. We enjoyed our time spent in Roam'n Around so much we didn't even realize we left one of our children's tablets behind. Bridget and Jon went above and beyond to figure out who the owner was and track us down. They even shipped it to us when we were unable to make it back to pick it up. We really appreciate their kindness and amazing customer service. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area!

Was in SD for a week in late April of 22. Went there a couple of times and it's great spot! This is not about that. Very recently ordered a gift card online and was able to leave a note on it. I thought it was going to be generated on a computer or something but they hand wrote the note. Which made it even better because of what we wanted written on it. So to the person who wrote a$$ for my buddy's gift card . Ty so much! He loved it.

Wow! We loved working with Roamin’ Around! We were able to rent camping gear from them for a short trip we had. The equipment was ready, clean, and in great shape.
Even more amazing was the hospitality of the place! Bridget helped us with our equipment, gave suggestions, and even checked on us and how our trip was upon return. She was an absolute delight to meet and work with.
I highly recommend this place! Can’t go wrong - good gear, great staff.

They have consignment and some reasonable prices. I got a (new) Patagonia puffy on sale for like $60 off. Well organized. Super knowledgeable staff.

We used Roam'n Around's shuttle service to hike the 124 mile Centennial Trail from Wind Cave to Bear Butte. I don't even know where to begin. Basically, we couldn't have done it without them. Had to leave the trail because of a serious case of heat exhaustion and they were able to pick us up last minute with almost no warming. Our water filter broke, they had a new one delivered to the next trailhead within an hour. The forecast dropped down to 37 degrees, well below the capacity of our sleeping bags and they had high quality bag liners waiting for us that got us through the night. AND they met us at the Northern terminus with chocolate, COLD water and a reminder to take a picture of the sunset, THEN took us to get what we were craving, greasy cheeseburgers! They were also very careful about Covid safety and wore masks the whole time we were around them. We are huge fans of this incredible couple and will now order all our outdoor supplies from Roam'n Around directly. What a great business and even better people. Couldn't possibly recommend them more. (I'll add that we ran into another couple on the trail who waited for a different shuttle service for 2 hours at the beginning of their trip. That would NEVER happen with Roam'n Around.)

Great selection, great staff. My wife and I were looking for backpacks to wear during Rim to Rim Grand Canyon hike. Their knowledgeable staff guided us to selecting a pack that met our needs, and ordered it in to local store. They price matched best online offer, and didn’t charge anything extra to order it in. In a show of unmatched service, staff even offered to let us borrow their personal packs in case ours didn’t ship in prior to our trip. They also personally fitted our packs, and demonstrated all the features. Super impressed! We will be back again and again for future needs.

Great selection of outdoors gear. If you are a rock climber, they have plenty of gear including trad.

Great local store that has been great for years. Friendly staff and great products (clothes, outdoor gear, maps, traveling gear, etc). Not a giant selection but awesome for a local shop. We've bought everything from Kuhl clothes to Eagle Creek suitcases to Patagonia goodies. Love this store.

I had Roam'n Around order me some special Scarpa mountaineering boots. They helped me with sizing to assure the fit was close and kept me updated as the boots came from their supply house. It's always nice to be able to buy special gear locally. The Roam'n Around owners and staff are alway top notch! Super knowledgeable and ultra helpful!

Went to find my daughter a backpack for hiking and they had a great selection of the best brands and we found the right one for her needs. The help was outstanding and she got the color, size and fit she needed! Now she just had to wait for Christmas to get it!

What an amazing store. The lock on my luggage was jammed and could not be opened. I found Roam’n Around and within minutes my suitcase was unlocked. Knowledgeable, friendly owner and staff. Great place.

Wow! Amazing, helpful staff. Too bad no name tags, otherwise I'd name drop em! Helped my girlfriend and me set up a brand new tent in their tent section after ours got destroyed in the Badlands... Great buy, great people. Stop here before Cabela's

This is a very nice store with two floors full of a great selection of high quality outdoor clothing and gear. If you're a tourist and you forgot some gear, this a good place to pick it up in a nice location downtown Rapid City.
However, pretty much everything here is expensive. Don't expect to find many bargains or cheap souvenirs. But they do have a small consignment section of used clothing.
