I am excited about the Dahl - it is becoming a first rate community art center! We have needed a welcoming community art center and it is wonderful to interact with the staff, the executive director is dynamic, engaging and energetic. We recently held a community workshop at the Dahl and were met with enthusiastic engaging staff, who were helpful, fun and made everyone feel very welcomed! Thank you for making our community a more engaging place to live and thrive!

Love taking the children there to the art room. Something fun and different for us to do every week.

The mural room by Bernard Thomas is truly amazing! Finished in the mid-1970s, the mural was commissioned by a local banker (A.E. Dahl). The fantastic details are rendered in spectacular fashion.

The mural has become controversial by some in the arts community, who profess perfect vision. Some have even called for defacing the mural because some scene offends their sensibilities. Art is not supposed to be a sedative! It is supposed to engage people. I hope that someone who is truly upset will raise money to tell their viewpoint. In fact, I hope many people do exactly that. We need more art, NOT more censorship.

Lovely little local arts center with a few galleries hosting temporary exhibitions and an impressive mural of American history painted for the bicentennial. The small gift shop is worth perusing. Nice place to escape the streets for half an hour or so if you’re downtown.

A beautiful and well organized institution with exhibit spaces for art that celebrates South Dakota and beyond. The exhibits are well curated. My two recent visits saw exhibitions focused on South Dakota artists. This is such an important place, as it highlights and makes accessible the talent and creativity in the state. It is also a community space. In December 2018, I saw a well attended holiday concert around lunchtime. The event space seems suitable to any use.

The permanent exhibit of the Cyclorama mural documents US and regional histories. Completed in 1975, it is just as impactful today, and an incredible piece of history. Take some time to really look at each section for the depth that’s there.

There is also a children’s area with art themed activities. It gives parents the chance to give your child a way to see the adult exhibit and then go to their own space if and when needed.

The gift shop has many unique pieces by local artists. The handmade soaps by Black Crow Soaps never disappoint. There are also artist created greeting cards and photos of South Dakota landscapes and objects.

All around a great museum

Went for a school assignment and wish I visited earlier. I used to go a lot as a kid during summer, but now that I have to drive myself places I slacked on going to the Dahl.

Will be going again!

What a gem! After we moved to RC I discovered that my grandkids had not been to visit; I soon remedied that! We all loved the various exhibits, the children's playroom that was very hands-on. I love that local artists are featured. The admission is free but I always made sure the kids had a couple dollars to contribute to my own donation when we left. I wanted them to know that this great place is a gift to the community and they should always support it. We used to go each time the exhibits changed and the kids loved talking about the different kinds of art: paintings, sculpture, fine crafting and other kinds of art. The gift shop is a wonderful place to purchase wonderfully creative gifts for friends. Think Hostess Gifts!! There is plenty of parking. The Dahl is a treasure.

The Dahl Arts Center was the perfect location for the Great American Book Festival and related events. The building is perfectly suited for an arts/culture related event and fits our theme to a "T". The facility is well maintained and the layout offers a variety of configurations for multiple uses including private meeting spaces. But above and beyond all that, the staff is nothing short of amazing! Having hosted literary events around the country for over a decade I can say that the Dahl Arts Center has, by far, the most delightful people who always go above and beyond. And they do so with a smile and a kind word. We are so very grateful to the Dahl for all that they do. We've hosted our events with them two years in a row now and can't imaging a place more suited for our Writers' Conference and related events. Also a special shout-out to event coordinator, Caitlin, who is the glue that helps hold everything together. She's a Rock Star!

The exhibits currently on display are really interesting! The building is clean and the exhibits are nicely organized as usual. We love coming every so often when the exhibits change. Some of the pieces are for sale and it is always fun browsing the latest items in the gift shop as well.

Incredible experience! We brought 56 people for a 6th grade field trip from Oklahoma. Everyone was so accommodating for our tour, we learned so much about each piece, and the art was absolutely stunning! Must see in Rapid City!

One the best findings in my trips crossing the country, great SD artists and even better art pieces from Native American Artists. The galleries are well designed and curated with great detail to show Native American Art from different parts in the country. The staff is great very informative and friendly. They ship the art that they sale quickly and they are very accommodating. If you are in Rapid City make time to visit this great place.

There were several rooms full of art plus meeting room that has an amazing panarama of US ( white) history. Free to the public. Four of us independently toured the rooms in about an hour and a half. There is a room for kids to create their own art. Did not notice if it was handicap accessible. There was a staircase to enter the building. A very nice gift shop selling real art. Nice stop on a long trip. I would highly recommend it to those interested in South Dakota, prairie, or Native American artists.

Let's start with the artwork: world class both conceptually and in presentation. Holiday and special events here are great for the whole family. Don't miss their at events for kids and youth. You can even throw an art themed birthday party here. I've been renting an annual event space with the Dahl for almost 7 years and it's always been a big hit. Very professional staff, versatile space with tall ceilings and a modern feel. The catering companies enjoy it as well since it has a flexible layout. The Dahl is one of Rapid City's great attractions. I highly recommend a visit.

The Dahl is always a good choice. Displays include local artists and are well spaced to allow appreciation of the items on display. Includes a fun and interactive play area for the kids (lots of Legos) plus a nice gift shop.

Must see Arts Center in Rapid City. Everyone there is friendly and awesome. Lost of different events to go to and multiple changing Art Galleries to go see.

Great place for established local artists, but also for emerging artists. Friday night emerging artist music performances are a must see.

Also the gift shop full of unique pieces from local artists. <3
