Lucky Restaurant

I really enjoyed this place on my last visit to Roanoke. I had been to Roanoke many times over the last decade but never ventured into Lucky. I was very happy that I did. I would expect to find a place like this one in Northern CA, or a larger city; but here it was tucked away in downtown Roanoke. It was a treat and a gem of an experience!

Tremendously good service from Maggie, Kent and Hunter; who took us through a very nice experience. Brussel Sprouts apps, Trout and Shrimp & Grits entrees were outstanding. The Bread Pudding and House made Ice Cream were equally good. There were other things I wanted to try, and I plan on it for my next visit.

I mama bar eater and a spirit lover, and I was very impressed by the Tequila and Mezcal selections....very unique and well presented by the entire bar staff. A very broad and well balanced selection of craft cocktails that were truly "crafted" cocktails from highly skilled bartenders. I mention the skill level separately because skills and knowledge do not always run hand in hand, but they certainly do here! One last note about the bar was the house made bitters. I should have expected as much, but that is something that is a true sign of craft cocktail potential.

The quality and execution of everything was perfectly done on a busy night. I would highly recommend Lucky to anyone visiting or living in Roanoke. Thank you!

Lucky is the restaurant you take your friends and family to when they visit you in Roanoke. Amazing cocktails. Amazing food, with seasonal change ups that are consistently delicious. Super cozy vibe. You’re lucky if you’re able to just walk-in… I recommend calling in a reservation about a week in advance to ensure a table at a reasonable time on the night you want.

This place is now in my top 3 to 5 Restaurants... Lucky offers an incredible meal experience that is on par with the massively expensive super-restaurants in larger cities. The Atmosphere is soft, personal, and romantic. The 4 course meal is modestly priced given what you receive ($55/person) and the quality and flavor is stellar. First Course - The bread and honey-butter - need I say more. Second Course - I had the salad which was fresh, crisp, and delightfully light. My wife had the vegi-chilli which I would never have known was vegi had my wife not told me. Third Course I had the Trout Cakes - only two of them, but delicious. The caviar on top was nice. Very flavorful and delicate. My wife had the sweet potatoes - worth the trip themselves. We also ordered the bone marrow to try. If you like that part of the prime rib that transitions from pure meat to pure fat, you'll like this. Very well prepared and the garnish is a wonderful addition. I personally won't order it again, but not because I didn't like it - it was kind of a bucket list kind of thing. Fourth Course I got the Trout Filet. The seasoning on the plate was exquisite. I only wish the filet was larger (about 1.5" x 3.0"). This I would order again, though I was very tempted to try the smoked meatloaf. My wife got the shrimp and grits; she loved it. It was absolutely loaded with tender freshly shipped in shrimp. We ended with the Bourbon Chocolate Ice cream which my wife described as a frozen Bourbon Ball... nicely salted and rich. The mixed drinks were awesome. I had their Old Fashion - loved the frozen apple juice and cinnamon ice cube. My wife had the Glamour Shot, which had flavors that reminded her of black licorice. A delightful drink... service was impeccable, quick, and exceptionally helpful. Read my other reviews and you'll see I don't often rave about restaurants. Lucky is among my favorites and I will be going back!!!

This place is great! The menu is great and everything was cooked perfectly. The cocktails were unique and SO good. The bartenders were really the highlight, though. Kent and Hunter were so personable and knowledgeable, and they had awesome recommendations for things to do in Roanoke as I am new to the area.

Every time I go I don’t think it can get better… but it does..

I came here for a business dinner 7 years ago and it keeps getting better and better. The attention to detail in the presentation, ingredients, flavors is unmatched. They go beyond just ambiance, this is a full experience with no detail left unturned. Even down to the cocktails that hit every sense from the look of the glass, first smell of the garnish to the balance of flavors. This is the perfect date night, solo dinner, out with friends, business meal, or just when you need that Lucky flair! Their flavors pull from all parts of the world. It is art from the moment you walk in to the first sip and the last bite.

You know those moments where you take a bite of amazing food and suddenly everything else going on doesn’t matter?

Where you look at the person across from you with wide eyes and smile shaking your head like “wow”?

Those moments happen on every bite, every cocktail, and each dish.

Lucky is a must go to when you are any where near Roanoke!

First time here and it did not disappoint! Even better it was restaurant week in Roanoke so I was able to do the 50.00 person three-course dinner! Could not have been happier with my choices! For starters we got a charcuterie board, then the 1st course was a amazing take on French onion soup, 2nd course was a roasted bone marrow, and we added (menu price) Kim-chi roasted oysters, and 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell that came with cucumber-kimchi, spicy relish,
and mignonette. The 3rd course I picked a delicious hanger steak with fried capers, fingerling potatoes, and a dill aïoli. Everything was amazing and our server was on point. Our server and other staff worked together to make sure our table was cleared, and ready for our next course! All staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant was very clean as well! Drinks were also on point, great bartender the night we came! Best drink for me was the Pear skin rug.. it was smoked and added a wonderful flavor to the drink. Lucky was a great experience. Would most definitely recommend others to come and try and I will definitely be back! Great job Lucky! Keep up the amazing work!

Incredible service & creative drinks. It was our first visit to Lucky, but we will definitely return. Highly recommend this local gem.

Great meal at Lucky! We explored the Prix Frixe option. Excellent experience! Enjoyed the Brussels sprouts, gnocchi and steak frites. Great atmosphere too.

This lovely place never disappoints. The food was fantastic…bone in pork chop with greens and grits…simply the best. N C Shrimp and grits, the BEST I have ever had. The bean chili was perfect for a cold, chilly night and wow the layers of flavor. Always a favorite of mine when I come home to visit.

The food, drink and treatment we experienced tonight should be a goal for every restaurant in the valley. There is not a bad word I can say about a single part of our night. Food is outstanding, and the expertise and care put into each dish is outwardly obvious. The cocktails and wine pairings were expertly curated to coax the fullest potential from its pairing. However, none of that would have been made possible without the poetic descriptions of our server, Nick. The libations were delivered and described deliciously by Chris, and the entire experience was tied together like a perfectly wrapped gastro-gift by Taylor.
Hunter's pride in his establishment really shone through tonight.
Please... Do yourself a favor and visit. Bring a friend. Bring three.

First time here, and we were impressed by the selection of food. Cool atmosphere, super friendly staff, and the food was divine. If you are looking for a magical place look no further.

Stopped in here on the way through a road trip. Our server, Kyle was so sweet and attentive, the food was outstanding, and the drinks were innovative and tasty. Best restaurant experience in a while!

Beautiful unique food. Bartenders recommend good wine pairing for food. Dined at the bar and was entertained by the cocktails being created and music on the record player!

My husband and I dined here for our wedding anniversary. The staff not only congratulated us multiple times but we were treated to sparkling wine on the house. The sevice was amazing and the food was delicious...definitely try the bone marrow. Truly a memorable experience.

The food was deliciously amazing and the staff were fantastically friendly. I was only in the area for a few days but I am so happy I made this part of my visit and if I come back I’ll make sure to come here again. I did partake in the prefixed multi course menu and was well worth it - but if your not terribly hungry maybe stick with picking something off the menu as a stand alone.

Food was tasty. Service was on point. The atmosphere was lovely as it was an anniversary dinner. Only drawback was that it was hard to have a conversation because it was loud. It must just be the acoustic of the space. Loved my drink and the glass it came in! It was a great evening!

Our first trip to Roanoke and we are glad we stumbled across this place! We had already had a late lunch, so we were looking for something sweet as a evening snack. All the places downtown were already closed and as we were walking back to our B&B, we saw this place Lucky! It's really hard to see, not well marked. We went in to see what they had and decided to give it a try. So glad we did. I got an expresso and bread pudding. My better half got the bread plate. Both were outstanding! Especially my expresso! It went perfect with my bread pudding. My wife got wine with her snack and she said it was amazing! A great place if you are looking for something a little upscale and not upscale prices. We were planning to go back for dinner the next day, but we ended up going somewhere else in Roanoke. Since this place is a bit romantic, I'll have to pick a song off my romantic album, "Better Than", with my wife's favorite song of mine, "What A Woman Needs". Definitely a Don Johns Music kind of place. I could hear my music playing there!

A beautiful setting, fabulous food, and informed staff. I was told where every menu was sourced, local farms and fishery. Lively, but not loud. Great mocktail choices and NA beer. Highly recommend.

Food is delicious! The customer service and the atmosphere is great!!! I really enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend to family and friends! You won't be disappointed!
