Really like this trail as it offers many sub route to take, based on the length we wanna go. There's a viewpoint where we can see the city. The trail is beautiful and very green. Not a lot of parking but not too bad. No round way back though, have to walk the same way or do some walk on the road to get back to the starting point.

Beautiful trails. Some areas a little rough but worth it. So great how you can make it short or go for miles if you keep going up.

Another one of my favorite Oakland trails! This one is fabulous for taking friends/family visiting from out if town. The first part if the trail is a bit narrow but follow it all the way along the creek until you get to a clearing. Then go left up the path past the remnants (footprint) of an old cabin. Go up the hill and then turn left. Follow this path and you will begin to see a gorgeous view of the City....keep going until you see a bench...sit down and take a deep breath and enjoy the spectacular view of the Bay!

If the thought of hearing or saying these two words together , " Oakland, California ", strikes fear into your heart, relax.. take a beautiful long walk along side the Sausal Creek Watershed, deep up into the Oakland hills to see and hear ,what you might convince yourself to be, a hidden secret place in an ancient Jurassic World. An incredible example of a successful urban watershed covered in trails and tributaries winding through groves of Bay, Oak, Eucalyptus, and Redwood trees; through ravines of ferns and vines, hillsides of wild flowers, and pockets of native birds singing out their territorial songs. If you listen to the silence, you will hear the distinctive flapping of a dove's wings, the trickle and bubbling of a rocky stream following gravity to form a small waterfall, the squeaky moan of a tall thin Redwood wavering in the upper breeze, and a jolt back into reality when a overhead plane eases past you in the space above. Don't lose faith in mankind or mother nature, and explore the California you can find in the Oakland hills. Hiking, jogging, bicycling, picnicking, and dogs on leash allowed per trail and area specific designation. Take water, poop bags, and your camera - leave no trace behind.

Wonderful trails, a little steep and narrow - gorgeous nature. Hidden secret…

Palos Colorados Trail is a beautiful path through a steep canyon with a mixed forest including redwoods, oaks, and bay trees, and year-round cascading waterfalls. It is not a beginner's trail. One should wear appropriate shoes.

Beautiful trail with big redwoods. Not the easiest hike, especially for those that suffer from vertigo or have a fear of heights. You can occasionally spot a gnome hanging out amongst the brambles.

Absolutely beautiful hike. We went after some rains and walking along the creek means many many small waterfalls. Prepare for mud if it has recently rained. Dogs allowed, and while there are signs that dogs have to be on a leash, everyone had their dogs off leash, and it seemed to be no big deal, which was great for us. We happened to come upon millions of ladybugs mating! Totally cool.

Well maintained trail with tiny little, cute gnomes that people have randomly placed. Good for dogs.
