I've been a chronic pain patient for 22 years. Recently I had to find a new clinic and my primary care physician referred me to Napa Pain Institute. My first appointment was with Dr. Johansson and I can't say enough about her. She did a very thorough examination and then began treating me based on her findings. For anyone looking for a dr. and clinic to help you with chronic pain look no further. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't get any better than what you'll receive here.

Napa Pain is extremely helpful and supportive of my goals in managing pain. I have never felt dismissed, diminished or rushed when dealing with the medical professionals in this office. Every single member of this team Is wonderful with individualized attention and providing a wide variety of modalities, medication options and the latest techniques and devices to control pain and improve your quality of life when living with chronic pain. I truly can not say enough good things about them and while I hope to not always be a pain management patient, I know that while I am; I am in the best possible hands.

This place saved my husband's life more than once. He saw Dr. Pope back in 2012 when we moved here from Texas. My husband has a Medtronics pump that he first got in Texas. These are wonderful appliances for chronic pain. Dr. Pipe was compassionate and wonderful with Sam. Unfortunately he moved back east (happy for him though). Dr. Weisbein is a gem. She is smart and funny with a good bedside manner. My husband is currently having opioid constipation issues and neither his primary care doctor nor GI liver specialist could diagnose or treat him. We had a visit to Napa Pain today and Dr. Jacqueline nailed the problem and solution. She took a lot of time with us to explain the problem and showed us the liver ultrasound results faxes by the other Doctor who told us the wrong details. Can't praise her or her staff enough. We come from Martinez once a month. We see Dr. Kimberly Schwartz also, who is also great, and the ladies at the desk are top notch professionals. They really work with our appointments and weird schedule. I hope they continue to provide their compassionate care, which is sorely needed in a field that is so misunderstood.

I am updating this review for 2019. Dr. Weisbein parted ways with Napa Pain Institute last year and moved to Napa Valley Orthopedic Medical Center. We followed her there, and continue to have compassionate care. Napa Valley Orthopedic Medical Center is also a little more modern than Napa Pain Institute. For instance, prescriptions can be sent directly to your pharmacy and there's no dealing with paper which can get lost or be incorrect.

The people at Napa Pain Clinic are excellent. They really care about their clients. They helped me get through a time of constant pain levels of 8-10. While I still have pain everyday it is now controlled at a 1-3 depending on how much I do. I know now I need to take breaks every 20-30 minutes to save my back, neck and knee.

Gail is always kind and considerate and so very understanding. She takes a vested interest in me and what I have to say. Napa pain institute has given me my.life back as my pain was taking over. I am forever grateful to the doctors and staff of Napa Pain Institute and look forward to our ongoing relationship.
Only one sidenote... I wish this Covid 19 restrictions would go away because the current situation with appointments is just exhausting. I know they feel the same way. I just hope things will get back to normal soon. Thanks Napa Pain Institute!!

So far we have received the most courteous and kind care then of the 3 doctors we have seen since the surgery (2005) went bad from a Sacramento Oncologist who sent me to the local pain management Dr. I didn't know they existed before this happened. I stayed with him until he retired in early 2015 and went on a search for a Dr who would care as much as he did! The first local doctor we were referred to was a true nightmare.! We were squished in his waiting room and waited and waited and the chairs were extremely hard.! Everyone was commiserating about their pain. He changed my medication (I suppose to put his mark on me) on the first 4 minute visit. He took 3 phone calls and typed something . The entire staff had no clue. Rude is the only word that I can put here. After complaining to my daughter about this office, she referred me to Dr Grigsby and told me to try his office so we did. What a huge difference! Chairs to recline in! Plenty of room! Professional staff, not hired only because they look like Barbie dolls! Yes we waited, that does happen to the best and the worst. When it was my turn, Kate (Dr. Grigsby's PA) was wonderful . She empathized, she listened, she understood. No medicine changes even brought up on first visit. Dr. Grigsby came in and after listening gave us a disk on the little medicine deployment pump which could be implanted inside of me. After 8 years of surgeries and many opiates someone offered me another choice! We had many questions and concerns so Kate and Dr. Grigsby took 2 appointments to discuss them. Wow is all I can say about this group! I'm going to try the pump and see if I can get more of my life back, I'm just so happy I found someone who genuinely cares. We drive over 1 1/2 hours each way to see this group. That in itself is a testimony since car rides make my pain worse. If you want care, not just opiates, Kate and Dr. Grigsby are a wonderful team surrounded by another great team. Thank you daughter for giving me his name!

The staff are pleasant, professional and thorough. Along with regular treatment helped me replace a lost piece of medical equipment in a way that saved me significant money. Have been treated here for many years and am able to live a full normal life.

I broke my back in 2009 in a bad motorcycle accident. For years I went to another provider and thought what I was getting was the best there was. Until about 18 months ago. I was recommended to Dr Weisbein and the folks at Napa Pain Institute for some of their cutting edge pain management options. Exactly one year ago today they performed surgery on me that would dramatically change my life. I went from having to take several oral medications and patches to manage my rather harsh backpain to one pain med that is administered by a pump that goes directly to my injury. Not only have most all of the side effects of the oral meds left me but also the hassle of having to remember to take them or to go pick them up. While before a pain level of 3-6 was not uncommon, now I am usually at 1. And the biggest plus is that my body is only having to deal with a miniscule amount of medication than it did before so I feel the most normal I have ever felt since my before my accident. I can now lead a fairly normal life and I thank Dr Weisbein and her staff at Napa Pain Institute for all of that. Thank you for rescuing me.

Update:: I recently had to have surgery because I broke the device that was making my life so much better. They told me that I am way more active than a person normally is with this type of injury. I'd call it a testament to the great quality of care they give. Zero regrets.

NPI is a great team of health care professionals who deal with the difficult specialty of pain and its management. It’s extremely important that you are completely honest with these all all your physicians who are attempting to do their best for you. To become a patient here usually requires a referral. I’ve been attending since 2010 and they have helped me rejoin active life again. 10-25 years ago the medical community was all about “treat pain” and unfortunately the pendulum has swung completely the other way and although physicians still desire to treat pain, governmental and insurance regulations have made this increasingly difficult for them to do. NPI uses a large variety of modalities to treat pain. The receptionists are friendly and the physicians and PA/NP’s are wonderful. I highly recommend NPI.
