This is the BEST place ever to buy your formal gowns. Jean has a true eye for fashion. We are never disappointed with our purchase, customer service or experience while shopping there. I walked into this store to find a Mother-of-the-Bride dress. WOW! Was I impressed with Jean's one-of-a-kind stock, service, and knowledge. She proudly walked me through her selections of what would look the best on me once I gave her a description of what I was looking for. The dress was perfect (everyone loved it) and she added the most comfortable shoes to my purchase. The alterations were reasonable and quick. Thank you Jean for an awesome experience. You nailed it!

If you’re looking for a formal gown anywhere in ENC- this is the place to be! My mom and I accompanied my two sisters prom dress shopping today and had the BEST experience, like even better than my shopping for my wedding gown. Jean was an absolute BLAST and we laughed all day with the entire staff. Everyone was so helpful, kind and eager to offer honest opinions when asked. We will definitely return year after year! Ps. I was looking for a dress for my company Gala. The older lady looked at me and said these right here will fit u. She was right. The experience was AWESOME. I will be returning if i need something else.The older lady is a Hoot. My cousin and I laughed the whole time we where there and she was really Great with the other customers there. A enjoyable experience.

Jean and her staff are amazing! Last year was our first visit for my daughter’s prom. Jean took one look at her and picked out the perfect dress! The first and only one she tried on! It was stunning!

I walked into this shop today and to be honest my da and I we where not buying as my oldest daughter is getting married 8 months away so we had time. I was greeted by who I believe was the owner she asked what I was looking for I explained my daughter has specific colors and she took us along the line of dresses and she immediately started pulling dresses and she only looked me up and down once. I have to say she told me four dresses and one pantsuit I tried on every one of the ones that she pulled and they all looked amazing on me it’s like she knew what would look good on me. She then had me going to dressing room she zipped me up she put me in front of a three-way mirror for everyone to see she pulled she pinned and she did an excellent job showing me what that dress was gonna look like on me. And being a semi-bigger woman since I was 400 pounds and I’ve lost a lot of weight I was very insecure about a lot of body parts they made me feel comfortable they gave us time to talk it over and they gave me time to call my daughter The bride. I picked the one dress that she told me that it would be the perfect dress for me and I’m glad I did I put it on my way I’m going to get it sized perfectly for my body and I am so glad that we decided to stop in there today. I would definitely go there again.

From the moment my daughter and I walked in the store we felt welcomed. We had been prom dress shopping at other locations and had bad experiences but our time at J. Nicholson was enjoyable and we appreciate the assistance we received. I had a budget and it was respected. The service was so awesome, I didn't mind going a little above that budget. A week before a formal wedding, on my lunch, I walked in the door with absolutely no clue what I wanted or what would look good on me. She looked at me once and handed me a dress. It was PERFECT!!! Drop dead gorgeous! I loved it, everyone at the wedding loved it. Jean and her staff were super accommodating and took amazing care of me. They are so kind and their prices are very reasonable as well. I couldn’t be any happier!!

These dresses were absolutely gorgeous. This store's dresses are unquestionably unmatched. With the workers assistance, we had found the perfect dress in under 20 minutes! The staff was incredibly welcoming and honest. They knew what they were doing. Would definitely recommend !!!

If you want to have a personal shopping experience with a seasoned professional assisting you, you MUST try J. Nicholson. I had the best shopping experience of my life at J. Nicholson today. The owner took me right to the dresses that were my size, listened to my preferences, and showed me many beautiful styles. She pulled an amazing dress off her sale rack that was half the price of the other dresses that she had selected for me and I decided to try that dress first because the color and romantic style of the dress appealed to me so much. After trying the dress on, she told me that she wouldn't even bother with any of the other dresses because that one was perfect. Remember, this dress cost half as much as the other dresses I was going to try on! She could have tried to talk me into a more expensive gown, but she didn't. Her focus was to put me in the best dress for me.

If you want to spend hours looking for a ball gown, this is not the place for you. That is the benefit of having a personal shopper assisting you. You will find the best dress very quickly. If you want a very inexpensive gown, this is also not the shop for you. However, she does have amazing gowns on her sale rack! After all, that's where my dream dress was found! Don't let the snarky reviews keep you from shopping here. Remember, when one can make comments and reviews with relative anonymity, it is easy to be bellicose and contentious.

Went looking for a prom dress today and the older lady who helped us was absolutely wonderful. She new what size after a few questions, and was very sociable to talk too. I absolutely fell in love with the blue dress I tried on was of excellent quality. I would dare say my dream dress, but unfortunately I can’t bring myself to purchase it. If it was 100 or 60 dollars less I would have walked away today with that dress. I pray that some miracle will happen and I could get it for 400 or even 420. A high schoolers budget limits me unfortunately, but I will gladly say I have no doubt this is an excellent place to look for formal wear.

I have bought every dress for EVERY special occasion for my daughter from this store. Have also bought several items for myself-fur coat being my personal favorite! Jean has a gift for sizing you up physically and mentally when you walk through the door. I don't know about you ladies but when I go to a car lot-I'm coming home with a car. Not a tire-kicking kinda gal! When I go to J Nicholson's I'm coming home with an outfit that makes me or my daughter look and feel like a million bucks. I have no idea where the bad reviews come from, but I'm so thankful that I didn't let them stop me from going in to J Nicholson. I was recently there with my daughter, shopping for a prom dress. The ladies in the store were incredibly professional, attentive, fun, helpful, honest, knowledgeable and (especially) respectful of my budget. My daughter, like many teenage girls, gets very frustrated with her body and the way she looks in clothes. So a day of trying on formal dresses promised to be a very daunting and deflating day. But these women expertly chose dresses for my daughter, so perfectly, in fact, that she actually had a few to choose between! They made perfect accessory and shoe recommendations and I NEVER...NOT EVEN ONCE, felt any judgement or pressure to buy or spend more. This will be my first stop, for any special occasion, from now on. Thank you to the fabulous women that became friends at J Nicholson!!

The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. She went through all the dresses that were my size and then once I found one she worked with me. My debit card was having issues and she didn't get rude or anything. I got a great deal on my ball gown. The other girl who was there was really nice and helpful also. I didn't feel judged or anything as some of the other reviews say. I will definitely be returning when I have another occasion.
