Employee at the Customer Service Desk is extremely courteous, helpful and kind. Pharmacy staff are equally helpful. Store selection and prices are excellent.

The store put their best crews on schedule today to impress. I am so glad I went there to get my last minute supplies. I recently had a horrendous cashier experience here and never wanted to come back; however, Jung's amazing interpersonal skills with customers (and coworkers) and genuine enthusiasm about his job really made a huge makeover to the store. I saw him twice so far and every time he made the entire store's vibe different. Today's short interaction made my week. What are you doing, Safeway? There's your manager material right there unless he is already one. Employee of the DECADE!

This is the best pharmacy in Berkeley.

If you are using Walgreens on Gilman St. You need to try Safeway. I will never go back.

I prefer their pharmacy to Walgreens. The line is usually not very long at all, and the pharmacists are friendlier too.

Always has freshest bakery items & the Asian lady that works in the deli always makes sure the chicken tenders are freshly cooked, I think she makes several small batches throughout the day to ensure they don’t sit under the heat lamp and harden up/dry out… I absolutely hate buying $10 worth of chicken only to have it feel like a piece of thick cardboard. Never- not even once- have I been disappointed with anything I purchased in the deli or bakery. This is my go-to store for sure.

Not much to say! It's a Safeway but it is clean the deli is nice the people friendly not once have I gotten behind someone in line that had to make a problem for everyone else just to make their day add to pretend that it didn't matter other than that lot of students people are smiling people too happy they go through a lot of liquor! Vegetables with decent once again there's no hate that's what's important and everyone in the store matters! The king of North Beach

I'm comparing it to Safeway in SoCal, so I'd say this place was amazing! Has absolutely the greatest variety of tasty items I've ever seen at a grocery store. We only got some broccoli, but if I were hungry it would have been a different story. Also the checkout person was great when the self checkout register didn't ring up the sale price.

Safeway always come in clutch whenever I go to Berkeley. Thank you for helping me buy things I needed and for all those ingredients to cook a meal to eat with my friends.

This is a typical grocery store in an upscale to mixed neighborhood. The food is all there, the prices are reasonable. There are a few gourmet selections with baked goods on sale in front, and if I have time I go somewhere else for produce. Rare are the homeless people who beg I the parking lot. Overall it is good.

I love Safeway on Shattuck. They make the most delicious bread and bakery products, the most delicious deli items like tamales and fried chicken, and they have the best produce including organic options. The meat department always has fresh Grade A meat and sometimes has crab cakes for just $1 each. The entire store is always spotlessly clean and well stocked. The management is EXTREMELY good and every employee is very cheerful and upbeat and each one always has a smile and a kind word for you. My only complaint would be the security, who is outsourced. I had an incident with another customer who had a mental health problem and became irate in the checkout line and physically threatened me. I had to leave and call the cops because when I called for security, they turned their back and walked away from the woman. This Safeway is ten stars, but they need to hire a new security company.

Organic, organic, organic! I love organic produce - so fresh and tasty. Additionally, I enjoy all the high-quality organic options throughout the store. We also enjoy purchasing balloons and flowers for special occasions. A 3 min drive from my home in the Berkeley hills, this Safeway is a family favorite! This is a very nice Safeway. Friendly employees, always plenty of people working. Lots of produce, meat, deli, bakery. and grab n go items. The supply of health and beauty items, and ethnic food, is a but less than you mighr expect, but there are plenty of nearby places to pick those things up. With the club discounts, prices are not out of line -- still high, and very high on a few items, but given what and where it is, there shouldn't be sticker shock.

I see bad reviews about this Safeway, but I like it. And their pharmacy is the best in North Berkeley for sure. I got a flu shot there today and got a coupon for 10% off my shopping! With the sale items I bought today, I saved almost $50! Employees are always nice and willing to help, I always find what I need, and the self-checkout is working great these days. I'm very grateful to have a local Safeway since it's within walking distance and other local options are more expensive. Thank you North Berkeley Safeway!

Went for my COVID booster shot and got to shop for Thanksgiving and other items on my list. Like the wide aisles and available stock. Very convenient.

The remodeling is amazing far beyond expectations. They stock few rare fruit that were not available at Berkeley bowl or whole foods.

Every employee was friendly, offered assistance, asked questions, and ensure I found everything I was searching for and more.

It was an outstanding experience!

They had plenty of self checkout lanes, the shelves were amply stocked, and there seemed to be plenty of parking with the underground deck

I grew up with a friends who had their own Mom and Pop stores. Knew the owners by their first names. I was worried when I arrived to Berkeley that I would never find such a place, but was happily surprised to find one just down the street from where I live.

I have received the best service at this store. Community is important to me and the whole staff there have made me feel right at home. All have made me feel that I am important. I was not a surprise how they try to do the same for each customer as best as possible in a big city. I am very outgoing so appreciate people who go out of their way to make my shopping experience special. Like the song from the old show...CHEERS - " Nice to go where everyone knows your name!" The service and quality of products represent this attitude that each shopper is significant and worth the time to go ALL out to make their experience a great one.

I actually make sure to do my best to say Hi to as many as I go through the store since that is the best way to show appreciation is to take the time to greet them by name; Thank GOd for Name tags...I am horrible with names, but find they most definitely do not have this problem. I consider this my HOME Grocery store. I give rides to fellow students and most ask to go to this store.

This location has a great selection of produce. The store keeps a good selection of vegetarian and vegan products in stock. There is plenty of free parking in their underground parking structure. Remember to bring your bags with you. They charge for bags at the cash register.

As a test of time, these 2 Covid years have scoured quite a number of landmark buisnesses off the grid. I am sooo very happy to say Safeway, on N Shattuck is not one of them. Going strong . And as deserving a kind report as ever. Here's to fantastic selection, personable staff, and clean restrooms. Safeway is great! Be Good or Be Good at it,now here's two plus years ago ...This Safeway is a Mecca of good will. In years past, I frequented here often, as A: it was close to my general location, B:there was never an issue of whatever made my heart go pitty pat not being there and C: the staff there were always very cordial and warm to me. In no way are these the only reasons I encourage all of you to visit this Safeway,just the first three to bubble through. It is always clean,from the restrooms to the entries. Parking is never a problem, and I've never witnessed a snail paced check out feeding frenzy.(An odd descriptor, but I just know ya"ll know it to be gospel true.)
