Whenever I’m craving for a Mexican bowl, I always go to El Jefe’s. This place has become my late-night haven, and for good reasons. Let's talk portions: they're generous. A pro tip is to order in-store because the staff tend to be more liberal with the serving sizes compared to what you might get from online orders. Another huge bonus is the no-extra-charge policy on all toppings, including the often-premium guacamole.

From their protein options, my favorite is undoubtedly the Carne Molida Picante. This spicy ground beef packs a flavorful punch and elevates the entire bowl. It's not just spicy for the sake of being spicy; it's complex and aromatic, making every bite delightful. Their chips with toppings are another popular choice, although be warned—it can get messy.

While the ambiance may not be as laid-back as its rival, Felipe's, located just across the street, El Jefe’s offers a satisfying experience that stands head and shoulders above the competition if your focus is solely on the food.

I’ve come to El Jefes on multiple occasions, each & everytime they never disappoint. The food is always top notch & the staff are always friendly & have a smile on their faces while taking my orders. The Atmosphere is also great & I love the layout of the place & the music they play. It’s definitely a goto in my opinion

Food: The quesadilla with carnitas was tasty. It's cut into four pieces and made with shredded cheese which helps spread out the cheese, as opposed to whole slices. I liked that the quesadilla wasn't as greasy as some other places, yet still very good. Two sides are included, your choice of salsa, sour cream, or guacamole. The red salsa wasn't spicy at all to me; it was a little watery. The guacamole is great and they give you a very good amount.

Their horchata is cinnamony, sweet, and smooth. It was a little too sweet for my tastes because I don't love overly sugary things.

Hot sauces: I didn't notice the wall of various brands of hot sauces until I was leaving, so I look forward to trying one next time.

Service: I have had no issues with the staff.

Seating: There is a decent amount of seating. They have about ten tables and a few bar tables.

Very good value! You get bang for your buck. Good food at good prices. We ordered vegetarian breakfast burrito and our friends ordered chimichangas and a breakfast sandwich. Orange Mango Nectar juice was also good. Everything is good. Do recommend!

Their 12 inch double steak burritos are unrivaled, epically edable, and seriously delicious. They are packed full, don't fall apart at any stage of your devouring session, and are always consistent, no matter if you dine-in, pick-up, or have delivered. Just writing about them in this review means that I now have to order some for delivery. Yes.....!

The original El Jefe's Taqueria in the area was Harvard Square and is still the best. Food and service are great. I do miss the self-serve condiment station. The horchata and jamaica drinks are very satisfying. i usually get the bowl with pork or beef and add everything but the pink onions.

This is a very good Mexican restaurant in Harvard Square. It feels very authentic. They offer a variety of food and it isn't too expensive. Tacos were tasty and very fulfilling. If you're in Harvard Square and want some good Mexican food, I recommend you check this out.

Jefe’s is the best late night spot in Harvard Square! Best place to eat when everywhere else is closed!

The Mexican Bowl with carnitas asada was THE BEST, the music was perfect and made feel like I was on vacation...not too loud, but just perfect! The ladies were very helpful!

Quick, affordable, and AUTHENTIC!! Im from California so Mexican food is a staple in my life haha. It's great to have such a fabulous option here in Boston. I had the chicken quesadilla and some of their home made chips and salsa, both were amazing :) Good location and great service!
