New Orleans Public Library - Main Library

History is what’s important. Somehow..someway, visiting to print a paper made me think of pre-Katrina which brought upon so many emotions. When you first enter, the glass boxes hold documents that were signed pre-Katrina (at least that’s what the male staff told me). All of the librarians
were sweet, knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help. The bathrooms were clean, it wasn’t noisy, and there were a couple of security guards in the building. I did see a review mention unhoused people sitting around the building but understand this, they are people too and if they have nowhere else to go, then public places are where they can be so get used to it. I wasn’t threatened by ANYONE while inside or outside of the building so please, go there and take care of your business as usual. Let’s try not to judge people who are struggling to feed and house themselves, thanks. All in all, great library! I didn’t need to use a computer but if I did, a library card wasn’t needed. Also, there’s a working pay phone near the entrance, I could have cried. Highly recommend this library!!

Excellent selection of books, friendly staff, free WiFi, and always clean. The location is awesome as well.

Kid-friendly environment on the second floor. An educational space that is totally free. Culture pass allotted for me to take an entire family to the aquarium for free. Very helpful and patron-oriented librarians. Please people keep libraries alive, relevant, and quietly poppin.

I did all kinds of research here and I was always impressed by the amount of available resources here. Also if you are into fiction, this is a great place to find good books. The location is also pretty good, public transportation is very good in the area, so you can get here even if you do not own a car.

Beautiful library and amazing teen center!

New Orleans library is somewhere where you can get all the help you may need from using the computer reading books renting computers asking questions tax help and more. It is a very informative place got to love it cool for kids nice place to beat the summer heat

One of the most forward thinking libraries I've been in the world... Medium size and very agreeable

The staff is ace, and they go above and beyond to find things for you, hence the 5-star review…sadly the library is not used for reading and learning. This location is basically a homeless spot where there are books.

Really great library, with an extremely helpful staff. The staff is always willing to go above and beyond in answering the query you push to them at the desk. For instance, after my 12th attempt at reading Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace and not being able to get through it, I asked a tall, tattooed librarian if he had an audiobook available. He showed me how to use the overdrive software, as well as telling me about a book club in a neighboring town.

Our local library is a great resource. You can go online to search for books and reserve them and keep up on events at the library. During non-covid times, they even took compost once a week. Friendly staff and easy to get information online. While there are better libraries, I love my library.

The people working air New Orleans Public Library are knowledgeable, polite and very willing to help customers. I was so pleased with my initial contact that I baked some scones and took them to the ladies that were so helpful..
