I enjoyed my stay at the Ale House Inn. It’s conveniently located in charming Portsmouth, NH and an easy to walk to restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, etc. They do not have desk staff after 3pm but their communication was FANTASTIC and we knew exactly where to park, how to enter the building, how to enter our rooms via electronic key, who to contact if we needed anything and their response time was so fast. I would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.

My family of four LOVED our stay at Ale House Inn. The location is fantastic. We were within walking distance to restaurants and all of the shopping areas. The king suite was spacious and offered modern amenities with a beautiful view. We enjoyed playing games in the quaint common area, and especially enjoyed the ice, water, tea, and various complimentary snacks. The Nitro coffee on tap seemed really cool, but my family doesn't drink coffee. Other guests were raving about it. The extremely friendly staff only made our experience that much more enjoyable. The pull out couch really needs an upgrade to the mattress, but that's our only critique.

Our stay was pleasant overall! The location is ideal for anybody who wants to go out and explore Portsmouth on foot. The digital key system was a little funky but luckily the front desk was able to provide us with physical key cards for our room. My boyfriend LOVED that there was water and coffee on tap in the common area.

Perfect place to stay in Portsmouth. The hotel is pretty, comfy, centrally located, the host was very nice and the check in / check out was smooth. Our room was quite comfortable as well! Would definitely come back!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Ale House Inn. The boutique nature of the hotel (only ten rooms) was refreshing. The beds were very comfortable, the included snacks/coffee/filtered water in the (nearby) lobby were a good amenity, and we appreciated that there was a fan in the room if needed. A bit pricier maybe due to the season, but we were only staying one night. The location is fantastic, as you can walk to all the shops, restaurants and sights. As far as the parking goes, yes there are a limited number of reservable (for a price) spots, or parking meters that can add up, but the right move is to pull or park close to load or unload your bags, otherwise leave your car in the free city 72 hour parking lot just down the street and walk most everywhere you need to go.

Downtown Portsmouth was a cool place and the Ale House in was a great place to stay. Located right in the middle of everything, you're no more than a 10 minute walk from anything you might wanna do.

Rooms were very clean, bed was very comfortable. Great amenities and their free coffee is amazing.

Craig was extremely welcoming and friendly. Very knowledgeable about the area and gave great recommendations on where to eat and drink.

Great experience over all

We loved our stay at the Ale House. The location is unbeatable. Rooms are small but nice. Think British. Nice amenities include free parking (call in advance), hot coffee, cold brew, filtered water, and snacks.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Ale House Inn. The gentleman at the front desk, I believe his name was Aiden, was extremely nice and accommodating.
We loved the common area. It is cozy and has nitro cold brew on tap, snacks, and a cribbage board (along with other games) which my husband and brother in law enjoyed playing.
I would definitely recommend to others and would love to stay here again.

A wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of Portsmouth! We stayed for two nights in the beginning of August and had the best time. The rooms are comfortable and you cannot beat the location! We were given complimentary beer at check-in, complimentary tickets to Seacoast Rep. Theater, located just downstairs and there are even bikes you can use, right at the property! I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff is wonderful :)

If you've looked for accommodation in Portsmouth, you know it can get pricey. This is a great alternative to the commercial hotels downtown with wonderful and friendly service. The rooms are small, but they are clean, comfortable and provide complimentary coffee, wifi and high quality wine glasses (always important!). The rooms are very quiet too which is a huge plus. If you want to stay downtown (worth it), this is a great option. Also, parking is easy - just make sure you stop at the front desk to get your permit to park across the street!

My husband and I stayed for two nights in May and truly loved our experience at the Ale House Inn. We received complimentary beer upon arrival (the perfect antidote to a long car trip), and the front desk couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. Our room was clean and cozy - the bed was very comfortable, and the fan in the closet provided the white noise my husband needs to sleep. The inn is located right in downtown Portsmouth, with plenty to do within walking distance. We loved our stay, and would gladly return!

Charming and distinct, great welcome from staff and lots of personal touches we loved. Free welcome beer in the fridge ranks in my top 5 welcome gifts at any hotel in the world, ever. Comfy room, great sofa, lovely bed, great amenities. Echoed the historic and creative zeitgeist of Portsmouth very well. I'll be back!

Ale House Inn exceeded our expectations. Making reservations at a hotel you've never seen in a city you've never been to is a bit of a gamble. Beginning with the phone conversations with Chelsea and her friendly, informative information we felt as though we had made a good/safe choice...

When we arrived we were certain we'd made the right choice! Finding/entering the inn was much easier than it sounded - no glitches at all. We were welcomed and given the key to our room which was just down the hall - well, ALL the rooms are just down the one hall! :)

The room was furnished exactly as I would furnish a room in our home - a little bit urban, a little modern and a little historical with some of the original brick walls showing. Every amenity was available and the room was spotless.

The staff was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and directions.

Overall, a great experience and we will definitely return!

For a 1st time visit to Portsmouth, I was glad to have stayed at the Ale House Inn!! Such a great vibe and Craig was so welcoming and helpful!! We checked in late, but Craig made sure I had everything I needed so there were no issues. Will definitely stay again the next time I'm in NH!

What a great place! Stayed here in December, couldn’t imagine better and cozier place for that time of the year. The common area looks sick with the fireplace and comfy chairs, and beers and lights. Rooms are clean and everything is brand new. Staff is so pleasant, and the rates are affordable (specially for what u getting). Stayed in other “fancy” hotels before for the same price and I don’t think I will ever want to stay in those “hotels” ever again. Will definitely stay in Ale house next time I am in town.

Don’t let the front, turn you away haha. We pulled in to Portsmouth for a one night stay as one of our stops visiting Maine along all the harbor towns. We didn’t have a place in mind- drove around and happened to park in the lot -Across the street- called them and they had one room left. But the front looked a bit sketchy so we drove around again- but came back because the reviews were good and price was too. So glad we did, a bit odd to get up, but very cool place and the rooms are really cute. All the amenities of a non-chain hotel - special brewed coffee out of hot/cold brew beer spicket, iPad, tv, phone charger, magazines and little fridge all l in a unique brick atmosphere. Definitely walk in and spend the night! You won’t be disappointed. : ) oh and the guy at the reception desk was super friendly and gave us a lot of great Town tips. Thanks for the enjoyable stay!!

Friendly staff, great location and VERY well maintained cozy rooms. The parking situation can be weird depending on the time of year, but its a small inn not a chain hotel. We loved our stay in Portsmouth and would stay at the Ale House again in a heart beat. Also, did I mention they have local complimentary beer?!

I agree with all the other positive reviews. Great location near everything. Crisp, new, stylish inn. Extremely comfortable bed (and I'm the princess and the pea type). The small Queen room was no problem for us; it is akin to what you would find in a boutique hotel in NYC or a European capital. And at the end of the hall, it was quiet and private. Friendly, helpful staff. No view, but that's a small shortcoming given all the other positives. Will definitely return.

One of the best places we've stayed at ever. The gentleman that greets you is one of the nicest caring people you will ever meet. Knew our names before the greeting. The rooms are very clean and well organized. They go out of there ways to make sure the stay is a 5 star visit. Highly recommend startin here. Will come back for sure. I wish I could give them 10 start.
