Cup of Joe Cafe & Bar

This was my third time at cup of joe and I’ll definitely be returning! The staff is friendly helpful and professional. They make a great latte along with a delicious chocolate hazelnut croissant. Brought the boys in last week during the quieter part of the day to allow Chunk (our reactive ½ of the duo) the opportunity to sniff out the scene. Really pleased with how well he did and the very kind female barista that made it possible. I’ll include there’s a nice viewing window that Blue put to good use!

Are you looking for the most comfortable coffee shop and or bar in Portsmouth nh? Look no further. As a locally known poet, worker and queer woman of Portsmouth, I stumbled into Cup of Joe in January 2023 and never looked back. I have been to most local establishments in town as a patron. I had previously boasted about certain establishments that i called my “safe” places that i had taken many dates to. I lost that trust and safety in a lot of establishments for their prejudice I didn’t experience until many months later.

Cup of Joe has never made me feel anything but seen and heard and appreciated. I have never been asked to be anyone but myself. My differences are not only accepted but celebrated. I have not met a staff member at cup of Joe who ever put my safety at risk. They always have made me feel so appreciated and respected. Not only is Cup of Joe a locally owned business. It is woman owned. It is one of the very few black owned businesses in town and it is owned by a queer person. Cup of Joe hosts many events with the local queer community.

The entire staff will make sure you have the most enjoyable experience, just be patient as at night it can sometimes just be the bar manager and one bartender taking care of everyone! ❤

And please try all 6 of their Espresso Martinis 😉 you will NOT be disappointed!

How about a rainy morning and a cup of delicious latte with cream danish. This place is by the hotel we stayed and we decided to have a morning stroll on the misty rainy day. The cafe got crowded very fast shortly after we ordered our drinks. Caffeine right on the point and espresso aroma just perfect. Highly recommend.

Cute little coffee shop I visited early in the morning. I loved the vanilla latte and being able to sit at a window counter.

Great staff and amazing espresso! Everyone was very friendly and more than happy to be there. I asked for an espresso drink that wasn't quite on the menu a(20 shots and a splash of milk) and they were more than happy to deliver on what ended up being possibly the best espresso beverage I have had the pleasure of enjoying. I'd give 6 stars if I could. Will definitely be back.

Always love this place. The coffee is amazing and the food is super. The chocolate croissant was delicious. Love the atmosphere here, and it's dog friendly!

Great location on main street. Ambience super elegant and cozy. Waitstaff friendly and seating inside and out. Filtered coffee options were medium and dark, and the dark was robust!

It's a really nice coffee shop! The inside is cool and features lots of neat decor and comfortable wall seating with pillows. Water pitchers and glasses are set at each table. Space is plentiful for a coffee shop and there are two clean restrooms for patrons. A tea shop occupies the space in the rear of the shop. Overall a pleasant experience. The coffee was great, I will return.

Wonderful restaurant in Portsmouth. Fun and funky vibe. Cool staff. Loved my sandwich and snack. Stopped by later in the day just to grab a drink. Black-owned and worth a visit, for sure.

I just stopped in to have a vanilla latte and meet a friend. The service was delightful, and I love the vibe inside, very inclusive, kind of a classic coffee shop needs speakeasy vibe. My friend said her sandwich was delicious. Not a ton of seating but but it was a great place to meet up and get some work done with ambient noise. I love the location right and lovely downtown Portsmouth, even a parking could be a bit of a pain. It's in the center of everything.

Such an awesome little coffee shop with wonderful girls. The coffee was just what we needed for our drive to Bar-Harbor and we got some great suggestions for a second half of the journey in Portland as an added bonus. These are the places that energize our little gems of towns spread across the U.S. We stopped off for a quick bite and some coffee for the road trip, but we might be inspired to return on the way back to Boston with our Cups ready to visit with Joe and the girls again!

This place is very cool. We were just taking about how cool a coffee-bar would be! Great selection of craft beers and very good coffee! Liked the atmosphere and the live music. Will go next time we are back in the area.

Second visit: We stopped in during a recent trip to the area. This was our second time in Cup of Joe. It is a nice place with good coffee. Love the availability/option to have cocktails or a beer. Half of the party went for coffee, the other half cocktails. My coffee, which was available self serve, was luke warm at best. I pointed this out to the barista who offered to make me fresh coffee. I opted for a glass of ice and some milk and went with iced coffee. The cocktails were well done and the coffee was good. We didn't eat anything.

The getaway car is delicious. Fun after dinner spot with live music.

Great service and great espresso martinis. The two guys behind the bar where really hustling to get drinks out to a big crowd. Highly recommended.

A lively crew of strong women behind the bar. The coffee was strong, hot, and full of flavor. The turkey club was fat! I love the ambiance and art of this spot. We were recommended Cup of Joe by our Uber driver, and by people in the service industry. So glad to see this spot thriving. Can't wait to come again. Come at night if you want an after dinner cocktail.

Best coffee & vibes in Portsmouth by far, great quiet spot to work for a bit during the day too! Bonus they support local artists and help make our community a safe place for everyone with the causes they support!

They have nice tables and seating options. The atmosphere is good as is the coffee.

Popped in for a quick drink while we wandered the town and this did not disappoint! The staff picks were so delicious, specifically the pumpkin iced chai with oat milk. Our barista with the long blonde hair was speedy and super sweet, definitely will come back again!
