EXCELLENT service from Albert, much appreciated! Food was good and overall experience was good. We especially enjoyed the shrimp cocktail. We chose this restaurant because it's not a chain, it's "locally owned and employee operated." It's completely worth it and we were happy to give our money to a locally owned business.

This is a fun, nautical themed restaurant with a great atmosphere.

I love themed restaurants, so I was excited to come here. It's also nice to go to a restaurant with a clear and concise goal with their menu - it's a seafood restaurant. Their menu is tight, but it has a few options for people who don't want seafood and a kid's menu. The crab legs were great! The fries were also way better than most places.

The place was very clean, the staff were friendly, and they have a large parking lot and wheelchair access throughout with ramps.

I would definitely come back.

Stopped in while staying at the Holiday Inn Express next door for an easy decent meal. Didn’t expect the world looking at the reviews but figured we’d give it a shot.

I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The service was the best I’ve had at a place like this post Covid. Nothing we ordered took overly long, and it all came out fresh and hot.

We started with the crab dip which had a healthy helping of crab. Was really great.

We both ate off of the specials menu.

I had the stuffed flounder and it was probably the best I’ve had aside from homemade. Great portion as well!

My wife had the trout. Cooked perfectly and again, great portion size.

If you come, ask for Albert, he will take great care of you!

Food was excellent. Our table ordered the baked founder, salmon, and scallops with shrimp pasta. Everything was delicious and cooked just right. I would go here again. It is expensive but worth it. The crab dip was a delicious appetizer.

Due to the cold weather in VA my plans for Christmas Town were cancelled by Busch Gardens which meant I had to find a different option for dinner. I decided on The Whaling Company and I'm glad I did. Our waitress, Destiny, was amazing, great personality and very friendly. Everything we had was delicious. The New England Clam Chowder had nice size chunks of clams and potatoes. Dessert is not listed on the menu however it's available, they bring out a tray of available options, the cheesecake was perfect. I am glad my plans were cancelled so that I was able to discover The Whaling Company.

Visiting VA and was craving some great seafood, this place didn't disappoint! Amber, our server, was extremely friendly and attentive and added to the great experience! Every dish we tried was delicious. The restaurant provides a history page to read while waiting for your food, which is super intriguing to me. I would only read the first page, however, as the COVID side gets a little gloom. Definitely recommend if you're looking for some fresh seafood in the area. The staff even opened the doors for us on our arrival and departure!

I have visited The Whaling Company a few times over the last 38 years since I was at William and Mary. It is always a delight. Our server, Ben, was top notch. He made sure our needs were taken care of without ever stopping by to ask if we needed something during that awkward moment when your mouth is full. He made great suggestions for food items. My daughter loved her blackened salmon and pronounced it the best she had ever eaten. I thoroughly enjoyed the Sonny Delight. We finished our dinner with a Peppermint and a Murphy's Coffee before heading out into the chill night. Many thanks for a lovely and tasty experience.

Hidden gem! Absolutely the best crab cake I've ever had. Great atmosphere, great service, and incredible food. All the food coming out looked and smelled great. I popped in during a business trip for a quick bite and you can tell that it is the place both locals and visitors appreciate equally.

My wife wanted snow crab legs for her birthday dinner, so we decided to come to The Whaling Company. We have been here before and enjoyed it so we decided to come back. We were seated immediately because they were not busy at all when we were there and our waiter was tentative. The drinks were good and the way they setup small butter melting units for each of us to utilize for the snow crab legs was a nice touch. The only odd part was that they placed another group nearly on top of us. There was a plethora of other tables and they literally placed two parties jammed next to each other while most of the gigantic establishment was nearly empty, which took away a bit of the atmosphere and privacy. Besides that the food, drinks and service were great!

Absolutely love this place. I'm writing this as I'm waiting for my bill. We ate here last night and came back again. The food is so delicious! Last night I had the Sonny Delight and tonight I had one of the specials: flounder stuffed with crabmeat with hollandaise sauce. Yum! We finished our meal with the caramel pie. OMG out of this world good! Highly recommend!!

The Whaling Company offers a unique dining experience in Williamsburg. My wife and I were looking for seafood. The restaurant has a lot of nautical themed decor that lends to the experience. We didn't need reservations, and we're seated quickly. They offer a menu, a list of specials including the fresh catch, and a sheet with the history of the restaurant and a bio of the team. This last piece was an interesting narrative into what they've experienced as a business, especially during the last challenging years. Ben came and informed us of specials, features, and took our drink orders. We chose Admiral Larry's feast, which has a little of everything from the seafood menu. All of the food was prepared quickly and tasted terrific. There is definitely a team environment here because many different members stopped by to help, deliver food, get refills, or just check on us. We'll be back to try their steak options. If you're in Williamsburg and looking for good seafood with a great experience, The Whaling Company won't disappoint.

Went for our anniversary/Family vacation and since the big tropical storm we couldn't go crabbing like we were supposed to do for the weekend so instead of being trapped in our rental house we decided to go have a nice dinner. The atmosphere was great as was their food. I got the fried admirals dinner (I believe it's called that) and let me tell you the shrimp were so big. I do wish it was breaded with some regular breading it was still great with the tempura. Had to get some old bay (which I felt they were a little stingy with) to really make me feel at home and extra cocktail sauce but so good. The asparagus were cooked to perfection and the 3 scallops were delectable just not enough of them. We ended up sharing so we got an add on of more shrimp. Also got a cup of of their homemade clamp chowder with extra old bay ( again not enough for my taste, I can always use extra extra old bay) and it was very delicious, should of got a bowl cause a cup isn't enough. We were so full after dinner but had to get their homemade desserts to go. They had key lime pie which is another favorite of mine and always brings me back to my childhood. Their was an elderly lady there that was awesome.. she was so nice (we were guessing may of been owner but wasn't sure). All the staff was great and most of the items on the menu were really a great deal and while there's not much quality of food on your plate tge things are quite big. We we will definitely be coming back next year and hopefully no storm lol.

Quiet atmosphere although it may be that we were there early so dinner rush hadn't begun. I had Sonny's delight and it was delicious. Our waiter was attentive. Next time we will start with a wine flight. We didn't notice the information about flights until our food came and we moved things on the table.
That would have been nice to enjoy while we waited on our food.
All around a very enjoyable experience.

I have not dined here for 20 years. I heard the employees purchased the restaurant and it was very good now. We dined there tonight, our waiter”Drew” was excellent. I had the Fried Oyster’s and they were perfect. Premium wine for $10 a glass and the food was also very reasonable

I can’t say enough good things about this amazing little restaurant. We drove past here for 3 years before finally stopping in and we are so glad we did! The restaurant is beautiful, the wait staff is friendly, and helpful and the food is impeccable! Amber our server was delightful and knowledgeable and made us feel like family!

Stop reading this and just go there! If your are looking for a locals joint with mouth watering grub, stop googling, second guessing your flightiness, and do it.

The food was honestly amazing. The filet with crab Oscar was over the top, flounder perfectly pan fried, and crab cake delicious. Not to mention the staff working there will make you feel like your at home hanging with the best of friends. I'm thankful when I find a place and people like this.

Do yourself a favor and swing by and grab a drink and some grub. You won't be disappointed.

Delicious clam chowder! Good steak and vegetables too! Sonny was our waiter each time we were in town. We’ll miss seeing him around, but his memory will stay with us. Can’t wait to visit again.
