Food For Thought

Very good place for family style lunch. Very generous serving for the price! The meatloaf was a little disappointing, but maybe because we're not used to the regional seasoning. The ribs were deliciously soft and delectable. Would highly recommend!

Had a wonderful dinner here in williamsburg, Virginia. The service was quick and the servers were very warm and friendly. Tried a fall special mushroom and brie soup which was very good and also the rice stuffed baked squash. It didn't need any sides as the quantity was a LOT. we also tried two of their cocktails and the time for chocolate dessert. I wish the brownie was a little warm to go well with the vanilla ice cream. We got the dessert complimentary as we were celebrating a birthday. Overall great experience with all the cue cards to talk through. Call ahead for a priority seating.

This is a great place to stop off at while in Williamsburg! It can get busy, but the food and atmosphere are worth the wait. They have a good variety of food as well as several vegan options! I tried the vegan Reuben sandwich and it was so good. I also enjoyed the vegan raspberry chocolate torte!

Talk about southern comfort! The reviews lives up to the rave! We ordered the Family Reunion, Stick to your Ribs, and Thai On One, and Down South! Appetizers we had Creamy crab chowder! It was amazing! Every thing was awesome, on of the best grits and shrimps I had ! The ribs were really fall of the bones! The seasoning was on the dot! Not too salty or no flavors! We had bread pudding and crème brûlée to go for dessert! We are still too full to dip into dessert! No wonder it’s considered as one of the top restaurants in VA! Definitely will be back here again in the future!

Such a wonderful surprise - Food For Thought. On this Saturday excursion, my wife and I found ourselves in Williamsburg. Where should we have lunch? Google Maps suggested this restaurant. The photos certainly did not convey the eclectic atmosphere of this intriguing restaurant. I did not fully get the meaning of "Food For Thought" on the search results-actually I thought it suggested the entrees might be ultra health oriented. But no, theme is historical quotes-past and present-from American icons. I'll add that there was even a quote from Jedi Master Yoda displayed on the wall, I think you know which one. So, this theme is very appropriate in Williamsburg.
Food - My wife ordered a grilled cheese and I had a Shrimp Po-Boy. The buns on both of these sandwiches suggested they were made in-house. I would say the grilled cheese was more like a burger and that's a good thing. We asked the manager about the buns when she performed her courtesy visit to our table, she said they were not only they fresh complimentary cornbread served to every guest.
I also asked the manager how long the restaurant has been open. I was amazed that it has been open for 19 years.
There is no doubt that we will return to this wonderful restaurant. I so much would like another location in Virginia Beach where I live, but I certainly can appreciate this niche restaurant as a destination for weekend travel.

A GREAT place for vegetarian food! As a vegetarian for 5 years, I can tell you that getting vegetarian whole foods made from scratch is nearly impossible (except salads that you get tired of). So when my wife and I travel, we are usually disappointed as we can't find anything close to what we get at home. This place fantastic. Yes, it has good reviews, but when we arrived, the place is very busy, and yet service is super friendly and fast. We were so impressed the first night, we went the next. Each time, we experienced a comfortable atmosphere with great vegetarian cuisine made from scratch. One night we had the meatloaf made with beyond...stunning with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The 2nd night, a spaghetti squash with mushroom gravy and wild rice. Only my wife makes a better version of this at home, and it's a rare treat. The wait staff was great and each night management made it to the table. They can do that without fear, as the wait staff is phenomenal. If you are anywhere near, treat yourself to this restaurant.

This place if fabulous! The Thai with shrimp was amazing. My husband had the filet and crab cake and it was cooked to perfection. Steak melted in your mouth and the crab cake was packed with crab and little filler. The service was outstanding. We started with a beer flight and ahi tuna which as you can see included a delicious and generous portion. The beers were nice and we both found a favorite. Reasonably priced for the amount of food you get and quality. We will definitely be back.

Amazing food. Really cool atmosphere and great service. I love the concept and the cards at the table to engage in discussion is a great add. The food was delicious and I highly recommend the Shrimp Boat appetizer.🤩

My husband loves Food for Thought. Every time we visit Williamsburg this is a go to place for him. He always gets the fish and couldn't be happier. I got the Berry Merry Old Fashioned and it was absolutely wonderful. Wait staff is always great. We were seated right away and the food came out quickly and was fresh as always. A winner all the time.

Excellent food! I had the $25 entree of crab cake onto of a portobello mushroom surrounded by rice a light cheese. The bbq rib appetizer was fall off the bone good. The pre meal bread is soft and tasty. The whole concept of having discussion cards to generate conversation is great for everyone in today's culture. The parking lot is a bit small and due to popularity there are no reservations so come early and wait or reserve a table. Best food I've had thus far in Williamsburg.

Great food. Was not expecting the inside to be as extravagant as it was. The service was great from door to table. Luke our waiter was fantastic and very polite and professional.
The food came out in great time and was delicious. Would definitely come here again.

There was a slight wait but it was well worth it. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. My daughter accidentally spilled her water all over the table and the manager himself personally brought towels and cleaned it all up. He brought us all new utensils and napkins and tried to ensure we were comfortable. Will definitely come back whenever vacationing in Williamsburg.

Delicious food and kind staff. Only downside is parking. The lot was full so you have to park 2 lots over at Ripleys. Not far to walk just a really small parking lot. Hubby got filet with blue cheese crumbles which he said was delicious. I got broiled crab cakes and skinny fries yum!

Enjoyed our meals. Our food was delicious, but was hoping for something more celebratory as we were celebrating our son’s 34th birthday. However, we really liked the “Food for Thought” conversation starter cards on the table. Those kept everyone at the table engaged and the wait for our food did not seem to take too long. Great place for a family dinner night out👍🏾😋.

This is a “One of a Kind” restaurant. There are no other locations anywhere else, and if you go, you’ll see why!

The uniqueness of the decor, drinks, dishes, and books to read make this place special; but people go for the food and service.

I had the steak salad and my date had the crab cake. Both dishes were cooked to order, tasted delicious, and neither of us finished, all great signs for good food.

The service was exceptional. There appeared to be a front of house and a general manager present that made rounds helping the wait staff and checking on each table individually. This is a vast improvement over most restaurants I’ve ever visited, and we will be going back! Our server was outstanding, knew when to shy away from the table if we were talking seriously and when we weren’t, discreetly checked on the food and our needs.

They also had a great bar area with two bartenders that were quick to make drinks while people were waiting, and there were a few seats around the bar if you ever went solo or with one other to escape the wait.

5 Stars. You will not be dissatisfied or disappointed leaving here!

I had never heard of this place before but on a day trip my wife came across this establishment. This restaurant is definitely a cut above. Love the humor in the menu! Had the salmon with apple salsa. Definitely coming back!!

Place was clean and not too loud. Food came quick and was tasty. I had shrimp and grits and wife cilantro lime chicken. Large portions. It would be nice to have a half size portion option, then I would have room for dessert.

Always a lovely experience and the service, staff, mostly the food is great. Never disappointed. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat.

Loved this place! Good food, good prices and service was world class! Bathrooms are nice and clean. Dining area is filled with inspirational quotes from folks not just Benjamin Franklin, which was a pleasant surprise. They have merchandise for sale too! We will be back for sure!

What an amazing meal! Started with chilled tomato gazpacho -perfect for this weather! Lovely collection of fresh, crunchy veggies with a nice subtle heat. Mom ordered the 'best of both worlds' dish. Filet mignon with Merlot butter, steamed broccoli, mashed sweet potatoes, and one of their crab cakes. While I do not eat meat, she sang it's praises! Actually said it was the best piece of meat she'd had in a long time. I ordered the 'crab-a-bella'. This magical concoction was compromised of a grilled portabella mushroom stuffed with spinach, topped off with a crab cake covered with provolone, served stop mushroom jasmine rice with diced bruschetta tomatoes. Oh. My. So fabulous. Let me tell you, the crab 'cake' was more crab than cake. Very special. It was exceptional. For dessert we shared the creme brulee. It was delicious! Clearly home made and the perfect portion after that meal. The service here.... Wow. Our server was the perfect combination of attentiveness and efficiency. The hostess was a pleasure, the girl who brought the wine was lovely, even the manager who stopped by was a delight. For two weary travelers, this was an exceptional experience. I highly recommend this restaurant!!! Oh yes, I almost forgot, there are thought provoking cards on each table too inspire conversation. What a lovely concept in the age of devices.
