My partner and I are staying in an Inn up the block. We are vegan and wanted a snack when we landed but it was late so we thought maybe this little store may have some chips or something and were really surprised by the options they had there. We ended up getting some Mary’s Gone Crackers and Myokos vegan cheese, some cold brew with almond milk and a bunch of other stuff that we put in the minifridge for the trip. Staff are super nice. It’s a good store.

We have driven past Mardi Gras Zone for 20 years now, and morbid curiosity finally got the best of us. Judging from the facade and entrance, we would not be disappointed.

Instead, we discovered a formidable inventory of interesting goods, plus name brands. The depth and breadth of their offerings were quite impressive for a neighborhood store. What a fun find for the Bywater grocery store food desert we live in. It'll be good for last-minute odds-and-ends, and far-flung food finds, when we don't want to make a run to a major grocery store.

The owner and staff are sweet, too.

A really cool and unique bodega. The produce on hand was not fresh and had a good deal of mold, but everything else was completely fine.

The woman who assisted me with my purchase was very lovely, suggested I return when they start the pizza ovens open for business soon.

If I lived in this town, I definitely would, unfortunately I’m just a passersby, but I definitely recommend this little humble spot for some basic goods, whether unique or familiar to you.

It's been a a few years since I was here (late 2018), but this store was everything I would hope for in a New Orleans store. Some of the best damn pizza I've ever had.

This place is excellent, the varying amount of products they offer is like nothing I've ever seen.

Great example, olive oil goes from generic 3 oz bottles to 32oz organic varieties.

Great find and will return

The Mardi gras zone always comes through with the best snacks, huge drink selection, weirdest variety, and a whole second story of costumes

This store really needs a better sign outside to indicate what's inside. We walked right past this store a few times, until we went in when we needed a few things and we were shockingly surprised! What a huge selection of fridge foods, dry foods, hardware needs, and whole upstairs of all things Mardi Gras and costume related. Amazing! *(Note, no alcohol though).

Also, the guy behind the counter was super nice and very helpful. Just a great experience overall. I encourage you to drop in if you're in the neighbourhood.

This is a great place! But what kind of place is it, really? It's listed as a supermarket, but it's much, much more. It’s a combination of places, a new-wave fusion kind of place. It's a grocery store/coffee shop/deli/pizza place/dry goods store/costume shop/artisan's center/tourist trap ... and also a major local landmark in a neighborhood of local landmarks. Favorites include: wood-fired pizza, large and with thin crusts, made until about 4 am. Deli case entries include lasagna, jambalaya, shepherd's pie, mac-and-cheese, beef stroganoff, vegetable curry… and lots of lovely dessert choices, too. There’s a lovely write-up online that tells the story: “What's in Store: Mardi Gras Zone” by Sarah Ravits (in The Advocate, Mar. 6, 2017)

Awesome place with cool people and cheap stuff. Be careful what you buy, because some things are expired. Inexpensive for a reason! There are some really interesting finds there that you may not see at most other places so keep an eye out!!!

Pizza is coming back! 😁

The store LITERALLY, HAS EVERYTHING! You need it, they have it! They also have a Deli with DELICIOUS hot food, salads, pizza baked in a brick oven... I can't list everything, you just have to check it out for yourself! Trust me, you'll be glad you did! 😁
Since my last review I have been back; well now they are making fresh, scratch made, old style baked breads that are simply amazing right there in the store. It smells SO GOOD!
They have even added an entire new stock of Mardi Gras stuff on the 2nd floor. It doesn't have to be Mardi gras for you to get this stuff. Lots of high end gorgeous jackets and hats, masks, boas, skirts! Too much to list!
The grocery has also been overhauled with an amazing variety of vegan and vegetarian foods as well as organic and specialty items that are near impossible to find in a brick and mortar retail store.
Thought I would give an update since they have worked so hard to do more for their customers.
ABSOLUTELY A GREAT PLACE TO SHOP!

This place may appear questionable from the outside (and sometimes from the inside) but I cant tell you how many times mid Marigny/By water drinking adventure I have stumbled in here for a bag of chips or a pack of drinking cigs. It's a lifesaver, never change Mardi Gras Zone.

Stopped in for some basic essentials and beads. The grocery is a typical city corner store and convenience store atmosphere and price but worth it for all in one needs. Plus they have everything you might need down to fur baby products. Beads and costumes and makeup galore up top. But the real bonus was the Meatball sub from the guy opposite the pizza pirate. Holy sh*t was it good for 8.99! Sorry but I forgot to take a picture before I devoured most of it.

Great neighborhood supermarket. Very friendly staff. The fresh food selection never fails to impress me. Their stuffed grape leaves are amazing.

Must see!
Great selection of specialty groceries.
Vegan, vegetarian, fresh bread, ... Like a mini whole foods & Walmart combined in the Marigny!
Great place!

What an unique place! Has a very good selection of food and snacks (we were just looking for snacks and found some we've never heard of!). Also has a quirky New Orleans vibe.

Great grocery store awesome deli if you have a couple extra bucks kicking around. If you have a specific list of things to get this may not be the place for you. Friendly staff and oddly eclectic variety of items to pick from. It's not organized in a very intuitive way but that's part of its charm. It's a great place, I love it.

They are truly 24/7 with only one day a year they close for rest. They've been only getting better and better! Being one of only a handful of places in the neighborhood that actually have a pretty good range of produce. I had to do some last minute grocery shopping on christmas day and they helped me in a pinch. Even though they do have tourist things available they also have an amazing deli and fresh baked goods. I adore them!

The owners and team that run this store do such a good job. Always good food, beer and liquor selection is very broad, always stocked throughout the entire store, never wait too long to checkout, always friendly people working, I could go on and on about how great this place is. I'm in there several times a week.
