Harvard Dental Center- Cambridge

Just leaving a review to offset one I saw below. It is so weird how people on here can have completely opposite experiences! For me, Dr. Ferrante has been nothing but friendly, informative, and totally willing to explain her reasoning. (I now know what a "non-functional cusp" is!) She recommended the cheaper, less invasive treatment for my issue, and I feel totally confident that she has only the patient's best interests in mind. Awesome dentist!

Just to prove this is a real review, I will offer one criticism in that sometimes this office can seem a bit inefficient on the admin side, e.g., they once sent me an $18 bill a year later due to an accounting error. But this is (literally) a small price to pay, and I still totally recommend coming here overall!

I've been a long time patient with the dental clinic. As with many pre/post covid comparisons, I was worried that the clinic would shut and I'd have to look elsewhere for dental care after covid. I was delighted when Dr. Palys reached out to many of us and got the clinic up and running again. Excellent care!

It’s so refreshing and nice to have a doctor/dentist that genuinely wants the best for you, your teeth and your health.

So glad we found this practice! This is a clinic that takes infection control seriously, with Covid-19 being not so done with us, not to mention scary issues with long Covid. We stayed away from dental offices during the pandemic until we found the Harvard dental school clinics. (Note this is for the faculty practice!). But way beyond that, both dentists that have seen me so far are not only highly competent, but excellent communicators. Dr. Costa is an active listener, who took a real interest in my background, not seeing me as just a dental patient. He also helped me feel better about the range of dental issues that I've developed by avoiding dental offices during the pandemic. Dr. Caruso has been extremely gentle in treating cavities, as I usually go without novocaine -- that's a real test of a dentist -- whether they will work with you in that way, and how it goes during a procedure. She is also really great on communication, and was extremely helpful in my decision making process regarding my upcoming endodontic evaluations. I've had one amazing dentist, for over 20 years, in Pennsylvania. In less than one year, Dr. Caruso, with her combination of gentleness, empathy, expertise, hard work in saving teeth, and not least of all -- treating you like a friend, and not just a patient, has moved right up there with Dr. Shirley Brown (who is now a psychologist, in case you live in the Philly area, and need a good psychologist who used to be a dentist!).
I can update this review, based on my most recent appointment with Dr. Caruso. She is unsurpassed in her ability to give you the news that you need more dental work, without making you feel like you are negligent in your dental care at home. As she said just the other day, "It's a work in progress". She's just the best! But maybe I don't really want too many people to know how good she is... #:')
Yet another rescue from the dental abyss: Once again, Dr. Caruso managed to save another tooth from possible extraction. I remember praying that she would tell me, after much careful removal of material from another molar, that she was able to save the tooth. She did, in fact, save one more of my pandemically neglected teeth. While I was so relieved, I was also not surprised. I've come to expect that my expectations of the worst possible outcomes just don't seem to come to fruition in her care. Not only her expertise, but her empathetic demeanor were in evidence during a follow-up visit to put the new crown in place, and take care of two more cavities. During the first session, I needed to leave before she was finished, to deal with another medical issue. I wasn't able to come back to that session, but did make it to the next session (an hour later). She was totally nonplussed, told me absolutely not to worry about having to get up out of the chair before she was finished (with two cavities). She went on to finish everything (those cavities, and the crown) in that session, as if nothing had interrupted the first session. If you're reading this, I can tell you that you can't possibly do better than having Dr. Caruso as your dentist. #:')
Well, one more visit with Dr. Caruso, "in the history books". More like visiting a friend that you can trade stories with, than going to the dentist. Oh, and have I said what a fantastic dentist she is, BTW?
So after Dr. Caruso finally finished with the last two Covid-19 hibernation inspired cavities, I felt so strange! She literally cast me adrift, until the next checkup -- imagine that!! I almost want to drill some holes in my teeth so she can work her gentle cavity filling magic sooner than my next yearly checkup... #:')

Over the last decade, I have seen well over a dozen different doctors about my chronic migraines and TMJ pain. Doctor Bavarian is one of the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Right from the start, she made sure to listen to everything I had to say in order to get an accurate picture of what was going on. Since then, she has gone above and beyond to help me get the answers I am looking for, like no doctor has ever done. She is an expert in orofacial pain and does everything she can to help her patients!

Dr. Palys is a very talented and proficient periodontist. I have had very good fortune in the dentists who have treated me at Harvard Dental Clinic in Cambridge.

I’ve worked with dr Ferrante and dr Caruso and they have been great— also recently Dr Tivelli who has been outstanding in his treatment AND Followup care for gum graft.

In general, I am extremely pleased with the dental care and friendly efficiency of the Cambridge staff. The only adjustment was having the cleaning appointment postponed twice, several weeks out each time. But overall I am very happy with HDC Cambridge.

I came into the Harvard Dental Center with an emergency situation, and they were able to see me day-of. I have never had such a positive experience at any medical facility as I did here. I was having an incredibly difficult day, and everyone I interacted with treated me with such kindness and care that made me feel immediately so much more comfortable. Dr. Benjamin Costa and Dr. Shigemi Nagai in particular, have been extraordinarily helpful and so empathetic to the situation I am dealing with, and have gone above and beyond to provide me with the best possible care and address any of the concerns I had regarding treatment, timeline, insurance, etc. I cannot emphasize enough how touched I was regarding the level of delicate care and empathy/kindness even in a rushed, emergency situation.

I had a fantastic experience at Harvard Dental Center - Cambridge. I felt comfortable the entire time and I really appreciated the level of information about my care they shared during my visit. Definitley recommend them if you are looking for a dentist!

My experience with the Harvard Dental Center, and in particular with Dr. Benjamin Costa has so far been exceptional. Dr. Costa seems always to be making the extra effort to connect and collaborate with his patients, and the effort is greatly welcome.

Absolutely professional and kind! Dr. Farrante saw me during an emergency dental situation and helped address all my stresses and concerns. They then referred me to a specialist who helped me further. Nothing but good things to say about the Harvard Dental Center!

I am very happy that HDC has opened a new office in Harvard Square. This location is so much more convenient for me. It's really easy to get to with available public transportation options. If you are driving in, like me, there is street parking and a self-paid (metered) garage next door.

Their office space is open, very clean, feels like a new office and following all COVID-19 safety protocols to ensure patients' safety.

Please note that there is an intercom to enter the building. Very easy to use with plenty instructions posted near it.
