The staff was pleasant, food served promptly, and good portions — especially for the price in Ann Arbor. I couldn’t come close to finishing my bento box and wish I had been able to take some to go but had no way to keep it chilled.

The avocado on the caterpillar roll was fresh and plentiful.

They quoted us a wait time of 20 minutes and it was about half that.

Beginning to end, I was totally satisfied.

I’ve come from far out of town several times in the last year for this place. You are instantly greeted by the staff; as well as gorgeous My Neighbor Totoro decor! Best sushi spot in Michigan in my opinion. We ordered hot tea, miso soup, the best gyoza around, a crunchy spiced California roll, a Yam Yam specialty roll, and two tempura ice creams. Perfect price points, in comparison to other eats near by. Will be back

My fiancée and friends recently brought me to Totoro for my birthday and I can honestly say that this was one of the best birthday dinners I could ask for. Their food is just simply delicious. The Takoyaki was devine and the chicken katsu was perfectly flaky crispy. I also had some ice cream that they gave me for my birthday and it was SO hard to share it with the table, but I still did lol. Please please please stop into Totoro for some delicious food!

Great Japanese restaurant. Ordered the deluxe bento box for a late Sunday lunch and was very pleased with the variety. The sashimi and veggies were so fresh. The service was fast and friendly when ordering, the server gave us plenty of time to chat and enjoy our meal before bringing the check. Will be coming back.

Literally the first restaurant I visit when I arrive at Ann Arbor, and I’m so glad I did last night!

Ordered a bowl of Nabeyaki Udon (noodles served with egg & a variety of Japanese vegetables in a hot broth and side shrimp tempura). In terms of food, the temperature of the soup was on point, and the udon was chewy that I really liked. The servers also were accommodating and cordial.

The only down side was the portion size of the noodles; I just wished that it could be a bit bigger. That said, I had an overall superb dining experience. Will definitely come again and try one of the bento boxes (I glanced at the ones who sat next to me and ordered them), and they looked HUGE to me!

P.S. My first review in Ann Arbor, Michigan as an international graduate student. Go Blue 💙🔵

The sushi was very good. The salmon and tuna nigiri were buttery-soft, some of the best I've had. It wasn't too cold, it was room temperature exactly as it should be!

It was busy but they didn't mind that we ordered a large omakase order. The servers were really friendly! Thanks for a great night :)

The bento boxes are the best in town. It’s very student heavy which sometimes makes me feel old as an alum.

I went to Totoro back in 2016 when I used to live in Ann Arbor, then in 2019, and then again just a few days ago in April 2023. I should say the quality of the food has remained the same! I absolutely love their sushi rolls, they are one of the reasons I go back to visit Ann Arbor, and absolutely meet all my expectations. The miso soup is also delicious. My partner ordered the sushi tower and he loved it, he was so full afterwards! We went there for a family gathering but almost all the other tables were U of M students. I wish they opened up another location that is more quiet and family friendly, this one is really loud!

I have eaten at many different sushi places in Ann Arbor and this place might be the best. Good food, prices aren't bad at all, and regularly good service. Would recommend.

A nice cosy Japanese restaurant!
The chirashi don has really fresh sashimi with a nice flavor addition from the aburi tuna.
The oishii roll is truly oishii! The cream cheese works surprisingly well in the whole setup.
Ton katsu with a warm bowl of rice makes a nice hearty meal

This is consistently my 1st or 2nd favorite place to get sushi. (For context: my other favorite is Momo Sushi). I usually get carry out but once in a while will dine-in (most recently late December.) The dining-in atmosphere and service are efficient. We sit, we warm up with hot tea and soup that are quickly brought to the table, then sushi, and then the bill. No frills, but I leave feeling warm, cared-for, happy and nourished.

A small, nice restaurant in Ann Arbor. Food was delicious and the lunch specials are really reasonably priced. Staff were welcoming and attentive. I also personally enjoyed the Totoro theme and decor of the restaurant.

So delicious! It was ready quickly and they even sent complimentary miso soup as well. Pricing was consistent with pricing in the area and we felt the rolls we got were 100% worth the cost! The sushi was so delicious and we will definitely return! I would certainty recommend it to anyone! Thank you Totoro!

The house rolls are amazing. I especially recommend the yam yam roll.

I came here expecting a hole in the wall sushi restaurant with average sushi and was so glad to be wrong. What I instead found was a themed restaurant that would turn out to be an excellent dining experience. As a fan of Studio Ghibli films, it was nice to see a two mediums that I love, cooking and anime, come together. I ordered an oishii roll, my partner ordered a salmon skin roll, we split a tuna tower with and an order of takoyaki. One of the first things that I noticed about them is that they have really good plating for sushi, orchids were a very good choice to bring out a pop of color. The texture and flavor of the takoyaki was impressive, where often times people overcook them, the cooks at Totoro nailed it each time I ordered it, the subtle crunch before getting to the soft center made the takoyaki to die for. Whenever I order sushi I have to try at least one piece of sashimi, so I had the fatty tuna. The flavor was excellent and the cut was generous. While the dining room got a bit loud, it was hard for me to focus on anything but the food. I highly recommend eating here, even if you aren't familiar with My Neighbor Totoro or Studio Ghibli
