Always an amazing time here at the GD. The staff were exceptionally attentive and were fun! It wasn’t a stuffy environment at all. I used to frequent GD quite a bit before the pandemic; since they re-opened, I’ve been about 5-6 times and they still kept up their consistency. All dishes were cooked to perfection and had tons of flavors. I had the lobster risotto, roast lobster (my fav), lamb loin, and quail. My friend enjoyed the scallops, roast lobster, duck and tenderloin. We also loved the caviar bites at the start of our meals. Highly recommend as this is still one of my top restaurants in SF. Book early or drop into the bar for full service seatings.

We loved our experience at Gary Danko for our anniversary dinner. Food was just delicious. I had their Benedict and lamb. Both of these were scrumptious and the wine pairings were great too. I just feel that desserts were probably 9/10.
Service was great. Just one thing I wish is that they bring valet parking back.

We came here for our valentine’s day dinner and the food was fantastic. We first had a drink at the bar since we arrived a little early- the bartender was great. I had a yummy espresso martini. The food was the perfect temperature and taste. Definitley recommend coming here!

Went here for dinner with colleagues as a special treat. They staff were attentive and friendly, accommodating teens and dietary restrictions easily. Amazing caviar, and creative scallop dish, and the Butter cake with apples and ice cream was spectacular. The cheesecake was also amazing. Don't miss dessert! Wonderful and memorable experience. This is a great place to celebrate with your family. I took my husband for his bday and he loved it.

We loved the appetizer of oysters with black caviar.

We felt that the waitress was pushing us because the dishes came very fast.

You might perceive it as a common theme in most reviews, but the hospitality at this restaurant is truly unmatched. You will encounter the most polite staff who are genuinely happy to serve you (something that is unfortunately quite rare in the United States). The service of the staff reminded us of our experience in the Maldives, which, if you're familiar, is very high praise.

The food itself met the highest standards when it comes to fine dining. The risotto with lobster and summer vegetables was among the best I've ever had. I also highly recommend the lobster with potato puree. To quote my wife: "How can mashed potatoes be this good?" I also found the Moroccan herbed lamb to be exceptionally special. The warm Louisiana butter cake was just that - warm, buttery, and delicious in the most Southern way.

We wholeheartedly recommend celebrating one of your special occasions with the team at Gary Danko. They will ensure your evening is extra special.

Delicious. Very friendly and knowledgable servers. And it was not expensive by SF standards. $170 for 5 course dinner. I am very surprised that I just learned about this restaurant.

A perfect experience. The staff were all so awesome, a fun group of people, and very professional as well. The food was incredible.

Every city has a few institutional restaurants and restauranteurs that help define it, and Gary Danko is one of those venues for SF.

The service is impeccable, presenting each dish to highlight its freshness and meticulous construction. This is a restaurant I’ve been to numerous times and each time the space takes you somewhere special, a culinary journey really.

The menu is very straightforward, allowing you to choose a 3-, 4-, or 5-course meal with an optional wine pairing. Caviar service is at an additional cost.

If you’re visiting SF for the first time and want to get a true California cuisine culinary experience, Gary Danko has to be on your list!

We have been to Gary Danko as we are on our honeymoon in California (we have recently got married). It has been such a great experience, service, food, ambience, really outstanding! Staff went above and beyond and we got a celebratory cake as well.

From start to finish the staff at Gary Danko blew us away. As soon as I walked in I was wished a happy birthday and they offered to take my coat for me.
On top of the amazing meal, we were greeted with a complimentary soup compliments of the chef. We also received complimentary pastries, chocolates, and a birthday cake and candle.
Our water was never left unfilled and we always had bread and butter on our table.
The cheese selection is amazing and the seafood bisque was as well.
Very upscale restaurant and environment. I would celebrate every birthday/anniversary here.

Last weekend, we visited Gary Danko again after many years (and a pandemic) for a belated birthday celebration. Happy to report that this restaurant is still at its absolute peak. Everything was wonderful, service is impeccable, and food preparation and presentation are superb. What we loved most was that the restaurant still offers maximum flexibility in letting customers choose which courses they want and allowing modifications to accommodate personal preferences. Fantasic experience all around. We will be back!

If you're up for a pricey night in the town Gary Danko was an awesome experience. We went for our anniversary and with was worth every penny. We each ordered the 5 course dinner and honestly we could have ordered the four course because we were full by the end and could barely do dessert. We were greeted with a complimentary soup from the chef while we were ordering. We each ordered the lobster risotto as an appetizer. I then had the Thai coconut curry from the seafood section. My wife had the crusted salmon. From the meat and game section I doubled up and ordered the lamb and the beef fillet, my wife ordered the duck. We both decided to not order from the cheese section and I ordered the chocolate soufflé and my wife doubled up here to order the Crème brûlée trio and the warm Louisiana butter cake. But we really liked about the selection is there are several sections to choose from and you are not forced to choose an item from each section. If you want to you can order five appetizers for your five course meal...it's up to you! Because of the special occasion, they also gave us a small plate of cookies complimentary, as well as two take home baked items; I believe, because were nearing Christmas time.

Would definitely come back for a special occasion. Make reservations in advance! They are on OpenTable.

A true San Francisco culinary institute. Went there after many years, but the food tastes the same, and that consistency in fine dining is what differentiates this restaurant from any other place. Staff is phenomenal, and service is by far top-notch. It's always a pleasure to eat here, and it is an extraordinary sensory experience.

Everything was excellent! The atmosphere, staffs, serving and of course every dishes were great. First and foremost they asked me, “is today like celebrating or something?” That kind welcome was very sophisticated. People around me looked very satisfied. Their lineups were variety.

Simply outstanding on every level. Atmosphere and decor are classy. Service is spot on and food incomparable. We hadn’t been in over 12 years due to various travel issues. So great experience it again.

We had a scrumptious dinner at Gary Danko.
We decided to get greedy and get all 5 courses. Everything was delicious but we were stuffed to the gills. I'd say 4 courses is the way to go.
The only thing I didn't LOVE was the espresso martini. It lacked substance and a bit of sweetness to me. Still enjoyed it! :)

Absolutely great experience. You can choose the pre fixe 5-course tasting menu or make your own 3/4/5-course combo. Since they separate seafood and beef/ poultry, this means you can order 2 mains in a 3-course if you have a big appetite. For me 3-course is way more than enough, I only finished half of the quail (2 quails per serving). Chocolate soufflé and quail are my fav, but risotto appetizer, oyster appetizer, scallop and fillet are all awesome. Risotto can be on the saltier side eating on its own to me. But service is the best - it’s not overwhelming so you feel like you’re watched all the time, yet you’re always taken good care of and time just flies so you don’t feel like waiting forever for the next course. Reminder- they keep filling you with side bread once they see you finish one serving. Definitely willing to visit the second time!
