California Bakery

Really delicious pastries. It’s a low key local spot but it has pate chaud (Vietnamese pork pie in puff pastry) which was insanely good! We also had apple turnover and beef curry pastry which were delicious. Highly recommend, and the service was really nice too!

California Bakery offers a nice selection of sweet and savory pastries! I have tried almost all of their savory pastries and puffs, and my favorites are definitely the pate chaud and the curry beef! The owners are sweet and friendly. I'm glad they're around and I'll be stopping by more often to pick up their offerings, which are all made fresh daily.

Got the tofu banh mi and it's excellent. Asked them to toast bread extra. Watch the jalapenos! They are spicier than I expected 😆

Got a vegetarian empanada (potato, carrots, peas, cheese) ... a fruit tart ... a maple old fashioned donut. All were fresh and delicious! Nice staff too.

Great coffee, I got an Americano and a breakfast sandwich, very friendly young woman who served me. I waited a few minutes longer because she was answering a customers questions and she offered me a free doughnut for waiting!!! (Only ended up waiting a few minutes) So very nice. Breakfast sandwich was yummy and very large for a great price. This place is right around the corner from my house too! I love supporting my local small businesses and I will be coming here more often.

This is a small bakery that has a nice assortment of pastries. This is a nice spot to get donuts or a croissant. Service is good but they can get busy and it gets packed at times.

The meat pies and bahn mi are so good! Love interacting with the staff and appreciate how quickly they’re able to pull together delicious lunches!

The pork banh mi is my absolute favorite and they don’t skimp on the meat. The service is great and they are so friendly. I always look forward to going to california bakery whenever I’m back home in SF.

Excellent Vietnamese iced coffee, the pies, banh mi and savory pastries are to die for. Lovely staff and owners! I don’t even live in this neighbor I travel all the way from Potrero Hill to have their delicious pastries.

The owners/ staff are so friendly and helpful especially when explaining the many pastries and other delicious items they offer. The meat (pork and sausage) pies are my go to items. Flaky crust with delicious savory filling.

I purchased a ham & cheese croissant last week and it was pretty good so I went in today and ordered a roasted pork banh mi sandwich and it was fricken delicious!!! 😋
I'll be there weekly going forward. The people working there are really pleasant as well.

I just needed to write a review for this place since I’ve been here 3 times in the past week. The banh mi and donut combo is a MUST TRY. I never thought I’d put those things together for a meal but the banh mi and donuts are both menu must haves. The service is quick and friendly. It’s a neighborhood gem. Can’t beat the quality or the price!! If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The combination and xiu mai banh mis are- yum!! Chefs kiss!

Stumbled across this wonderful bakery on a recent trip to SF. Awesome donuts-full stop! Good breakfast sandwiches but the Bánh Mi & Vietnamese ice coffee were an amazing surprise. Super friendly service. Please stop by a patronize this small mom & pop donut shop.

Omg the pork and onion pastries are DIVINE. My partner brought them home for the first time yesterday because they were fresh out of the oven, and they were buttery perfection. We fought over who got the last bite!

Also, the owners / staff are so kind. Happy to support his local family business.

Wandered in while exploring the area and got a super delicious yeasted crumb donut, one of the best I've had in SF. Super nice staff explained all their pastry fillings to me, too :) Would definitely return!

OPEN during shelter in place! MUST TRY their meat pies. Think: mouthwatering dumpling filling inside buttery, flaky puff pastry. Also known as "pate chaud," a brilliant Viet-French marriage that goes great with Viet coffee. Made on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Sometimes you can snag one on a different day because if someone puts in a special order, they make some extras. Meat pie/pate chaud is different from their pasties, which are available every day, and also yummy.

Their sweet pastries are great, too! My husband loves their blueberry cake donuts and scones. I'm partial to their apple fritters and chocolate old fashioneds (nice generous icing on those).

I kept asking about blueberry cake donuts and the baker, Ming, started making them regularly for me!! 😄

Need to try: banh mi, chai tea, and chocolate croissants, all highly recommended by other customers. I only discovered this place a month ago but now visit 3-4 times a week. Such kind, hard-working staff and great food. It's a no brainer to support this wonderful small business!
