Mission Dolores Basilica

I had the privilege of finally visiting Mission Basilica. After passing it 100s of times since the late 80s, I've never been inside. I must say, it left a lasting impression. The space is truly remarkable, exuding a unique and uplifting energy that's hard to find elsewhere. But what truly took my breath away were the choirs performing there. The combination of the grand church building and its incredible sound effects created a mesmerizing experience. Each choir performance I witnessed was nothing short of glorious. Mission Basilica is a place where beauty, spirituality, and music harmoniously come together. A must-visit for anyone seeking an awe-inspiring encounter.

The Mission Dolores and Basilica is a beautiful old building located in the Mission district, San Francisco. It was closed when we visited so I couldn’t go inside, but worth visiting anyway!
If you’re catching the subway it’s a short walk from 16th St mission subway station.

Mission Dolores (not the Basilica) is the oldest building (1776) in San Francisco. It has survived all of our earthquakes. I love to attend the Saturday evening Mass there. (Interior picture included.) Mass is held at the Basilica on Sundays.

Beautiful church with a ton of history. I got a ticket for the museum which tells you about the history of the mission. After that, I stopped into the basilica for an organ recital. Definitely worth an hour if you’re in the area.

This church appeared rather "famously" in the 1983 music video "Jeopardy" by San Francisco's own Greg Kihn Band, along with St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, right across the street !
