This historic theater is gorgeous. My son and I love attending the Movies for Maniacs screenings. The host, Jesse, has an infectious passion for the films he shows and it's been really fun experiencing movies we wouldn't normally seek out. The staff is also wonderful ❤

Beautiful movie palace. The paintings and the decor inside are irreplaceable. Every show has a powerful community feel. We all love the organ rising from the floor. I'm really looking forward to seeing it after the renovations, I think it's going to be great (fight me). With better sightlines, sound, and picture, I think it will be even better for watching films. It comes down to what kind of programming they will have in the future moving forward.

Loving the events here lately! But the seats are falling apart & there's not nearly enough bathrooms for sold out shows (make sure you use the restroom before a line forms!).. I hope they are allowed to renovate soon. Concessions include beer, wine, cocktails, & coffee at most events. As well as popcorn & limited types of candy.

I’ve always loved the Castro Theatre! I grew up in the Castro and this place is part of my past childhood experience, as well as my present. It’s a lovely space!

Old movie palace from the 1920s that hosts film revivals, concerts, and stage shows. (I've been here twice for the 12+ hour "Day of Silents" organized by the San Francisco Silent Film Festival.)There are good restaurants, cafes and coffee bars near by if you want to eat before or after a show.

This place is incredible. Beautiful inside and out! The movie we went to had an organist come out and play before the show, very cool.
I appreciated the dancing before the movie played.
They had many seats, chairs for sitting. It was a nice place to sit and enjoy a show.

Beautiful ornate theater. The lights inside looked so pretty. Reminded me of working at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Historic theater with current shows.

Just saw the premier of The Irishman here. As a lifelong movie fan, this is among my favorite movie theaters I've ever been to. It has that awesome retro feel that you get at small town movie theaters, but the difference is that this one is located right in The Castro, one of the most fun and vibrant neighborhoods of the city, and that its capacity is absolutely massive - it can seat a whopping 1,400 people! There is excellent sound quality, the screen is very big, and the seats are reasonably comfortable. The interior design is beautiful.
Tips: come here early, especially if you're coming to a movie's opening night, as there are no assigned seats and the line for concession and even the bathrooms can get ridiculously long before a sold-out screening. You can (and should) buy tickets online to make sure you get in. And finally, unlike most AMC theaters, the movies here start almost exactly on time - maybe 5-10 minutes after the scheduled start time. So aim to be here 15-30 minutes early if you want to get snacks / use the bathroom / secure the best seats in the house.

Historic and iconic movie theater in the heart of Castro. Totally recommend their sing-a-long performances which day run regularly with different movied. I recommend checking their website in advance to see when is the best showing for you. We watched Queen on a Sunday and the theater was packed but comfortable.
Paying extra for the sing-a-long was absolutely worth it! You get a goodie bag with fun props the audience can use while watching the movie. there is a costume contest and everybody is just joining in the fun!! I loved it

You can see the old Hollywood glamour shining through in the decor. They still have an organist playing before the movie began. I was there for a SFFilm premiere of the movie Q Ball. Lots of fun! They have a bar and snacks.

We saw The Moth here. This theater had very good acoustics and snack bar. The seats are very comfortable and gallery helps get a good view no matter which seat. Love this theater. Also a great neighborhood. Lots of good restaurants and places to grab a snack or a drink.

Art deco, classic movies, a Time when the big screen was King. If you are looking for IMAX this is not the place for you. The Castro theater offers a time for a person to step back to enjoy those black and white films. The Hughes the colors of a panavision can only be enjoyed a screen of this dimension.

Beautiful architecture! An historic landmark in San Francisco. It was originally built in 1922. Here you can see foreign films, repertory cinema, film festivals and special first run presentations. The theater also has a large stage for live performances and other celebrations.
