El Azteca Mexican Restaurant

I pulled into town late on a Friday night. We were able to grab a table and were pleasantly surprised. This place was warm and inviting, the food was good, and the staff was quick. I look forward to stopping in again on my way to my next mountain adventure.

I enjoyed the Carnitas Burrito as seen in the picture.

Fajitas were unbelievable! And their fresh salsa is a clear winner! Best sit down restaurant for a reasonably priced meal and great proportions. Fast service and hot piping hot food in a mountain town like Idaho Springs is not a guarantee. They have an incredible one of a kind chile relleno burrito. El Azteca has it right!

Pollo Veracruzano. This dish just blew me away. So simple but every ingredient was fresh and worked together so well. Their homemade chorizo is incredible paired with the soft chicken with crispy edges. Good queso too!

El Azteca Mexican Restaurant is located on an amazing stretch of historical Idaho Springs. With so many locally owed small stores and restaurants, it is the best place you can come to spend your weekend and buy a few holiday gifts and fill up on some amazing food.

I ordered the Macho Chile Burrito and was completely amazed by how much flavor and how filling it was. I really was just looking for something to refuel with that didn’t take to much effort to get to. Amazing food, clean interior, friendly staff, all at reasonable prices - Good Work!

Tasty cheesy Mexican. GIGANTIC margaritas! The small house happy hour one is totally a fine size. If you want to get your drink on the large is good. If you are feeling wild, the gigantic one is a small fishbowl. We had a super tasty Chile relleno burrito and a decent flan night #1. Lunch on day 2 we came back for the appetizer platter, sangria, and a tamale. Great flavors, friendly staff, and good drinks. It's Americanized Mexican food, but it's delicious with excellent flavors all around

Solid late night grab after the holiday train in gtown. Decided that any place over 4.0 for Mx is actually 5 stars if you actually understand what is and should be served at a Mexican restaurant. Not sure why they rate low, maybe some California Karen’s mad over the spices queso. This place was solid, no frills, no fuss, good food, perfect save for a hungry Mrs and two kids 8 & 13. Service was great — even though slow night kitchen was still fast

What a great place! We stopped here for a family dinner and everyone enjoyed immensely. Great atmosphere and friendly service. The kids especially liked the virgin mango margarita!

Fantastic experience.
We were passing thru and so glad we stopped. Food was tasty and well portioned. Staff was very helpful friendly and professional. Would highly recommend 👌

We wanted an authentic Mexican meal while in the Denver area and hands down everyone in Idaho springs said go to El Azteca.

We ordered only Mexican items, so no burritos or chimichangas (which are American) and found the flavors to be really good. The mole was the perfect blend of sweet and savory. Our tamales were good but not great. The enchiladas were very good as well. Sadly we did not try any drinks or deserts but their tequila selection is terrific.

In terms of attention, it was a mid day afternoon and not very busy. We had no problem with our service.

We didn’t like the fish, WE LOVED IT! Excellent selection of food, very authentic Mexican cuisine!

Wow. This is the fork next to the El Azteca burrito for scale, they have a larger burrito than this. In back is the vegetarian fajitas from the eating light menu. Happy hour margaritas are amazing too, best happy hour margarita over ever had and only 3.50ish? Wait staff is fabulous as well

Hey there are lots of Mexican food options in lots of towns. The reason to go here is to observe the amazing art work (see picture) and enjoy some great food!

Reliable and interesting latin food. Extensive menus including Mole and other regional dishes. Friendly staff.

Great place for real authentic Mexican but beware the fish tacos sauce might bite you back.

We just had a great lunch at Azteca Mexican Restaurant and I was truly impressed. They use an authentic red chili sauce for the enchiladas that is SO de delicious. Everything we tried was so flavorful and very reasonably priced. I’m definitely going back.

Friendly staff, freshly toasted chips. Really enjoyed the queso with chili.
