This place is like a dreamy, art decco-y oasis. The surrounding town of Allston has a very real and gritty feel to it (in the most wonderful way), but Glenville stops has a more a bit of a polished feel, while still being cozy, relaxed and accessible. Excellent drink menu! I had a glass of pinot gris to start with my oysters (which are $1/ea. before 6pm). For dinner i ordered a fantastic sSpanish red and the lambshank. I ordered the lamb despite being a little picky about the flavor of lamb...and my fear of commercial mint jelly, i had a feeling they would do it right. I was not mistaken! No green jelly in sight, just a perfectly cooked piece of meat with rosemary garnish.😋 The service here is excellent as well! Everyone was kind and attentive (except for the sculpture near the bar, whose eyes i could not escape. Wish i had taken a picture of him.) They even charged my phone for me! What an amazing dining experience! I'll definitely be back!

This place is a hidden gem in Allston. The food is the best I have in Boston, and I have been living in Boston for over 8 years now!
Also its never too crowded, they have light music in the background so you can have actual conversation with friends. Good selection of wine and beer. Love this place! Thank you

Absolutely a hidden gem! My girlfriend lived in Brookline for a year and we were lucky enough to discover this spot early. The oyster happy hour is what brought us here and the food/ambiance/service is what kept us coming back! The Oysters were amazing, and the dishes were interesting and tasteful. We now live on the west coast and are still constantly talking about how we would be visiting Glenville Stops the next chance we get. I highly recommend giving them a try!

A hidden gem in the Allston-Brighton area! Wonderful wine collection with fresh bread and hummus to start. The quality of food for the price is astounding! Also, I don't know anywhere else in Boston you can get quality oysters for $1! The atmosphere is calm and collected with attentive servers. Overall a perfect place!

Great place to go for dollar oysters, Mon-Sat 5-7pm. Pretty good beer selection that seems focused on malty and english style beers. Some good local beers of this kind. Delicious appetizers as well. Sat at the bar and the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Did not get any entrees so can't speak to that.

Great food and excellent wine and beer list. Menu changes and there are apps, small plates, and entrees so plenty of options depending on how hungry you are. Expect to stay a while. Food comes out pretty quickly but they don't rush you. Great place for date night. No hard liquor served.

Love this place. It's a "hidden" gem in Allston off comm ave. Parking can be tough but the food is well worth the numerous trips around the block. The owners passion in the experience really shows in the ambiance of the space, the choice of wines, and of course the variety of dishes. I can't say enough great things about Glenville Stops. I recommend sitting at the bar even for dinner. You might even have a great conversation with one of the owners!

[Edit: came back September 2017 -- this is a perfect restaurant] Really amazing place, especially given the neighborhood. Been here probably 10 times and enjoyed it every single time. Go if only for the bar (40 taps, great selections, and great wine picks by the glass) but also the food. A surprising step up from your standard bar fare, and very creative. Highly recommended.

Food was to die for. Atmosphere was warm and elegant. Bartender and owner were friendly. Wine was delicious. Beer selection was great. Will definitely come back. Was surprised at how empty the place was for how good it is!

I hesitate to write a review for this place, because this restaurant is one of Allston’s best kept secrets and I want it all to myself. But, alas, after 5 yrs. of exceptional service (we love you Erica) and unmatched quality control, it is finally time. This place deserves my little review, and so much more.
In a nutshell, Glenville Stops is one of the best date night places in Boston. It’s the place you bring a keeper because, once you go, you’ll want to be a regular. (We are.)
Why? Everything about GS feels reliable and steady, like a good relationship.
- The food is affordable. Glenville Stops serves up $20 dinners at like $12 prices, so you can actually go there and have a good time without feeling broke and guilty at the end. (Personally, I love the chicken confit sandwich. My husband gets the burger.)
- The drinks are good and they have an excellent selection. GS only serves beer and wine, but they’re all good. (We can say that because we’ve tried like half the drink menu.)
- The ambiance is perfect. It’s nestled in a neighborhood, so there isn’t a ton of traffic and it’s never super loud/ noisy. You can actually hear your date, which I feel is the most important part of any date. The lights are kept low, but not too dark that you can’t see anything. And they light your table with a candle, so the whole thing feels very intimate and special.
- The service is great. 9/10 we’re greeted by Erica. She’s efficient. She remembers us and our orders. She’s just superb. Please treat her (and everyone there) well!
- It’s reliable. I’ve never had a long wait. You can also reserve a table in advance. Mike, the owner, will call ahead to confirm.
In conclusion: This place is just the bees knees. I’ve celebrated special events (including many birthdays) here, as well as dined here for countless weeknight date nights. I’ve even ran into my friends on their weeknight date night here.
This place is a gem. A diamond in the rough. It’s not super flashy or even instagrammable, but I feel like that’s a good thing: it’s a place where you can, should and DO focus on the loved ones you share a table with. And to me, well, that’s the most important part.

When I first went I couldn't believe I had never heard of this place before. It is tucked away on a side street but once you come up to it you can't miss it. The restaurant is pretty large and spacious with a lot of room for groups and they have a wonderful beer selection to pick from as well. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very relaxing. If you are in the Allston area looking for a more upscale restaurant to eat at with delicious food, this is definitely the place to go!

I’ll start off by saying that I was tempted to not write a review in an effort to keep this place a secret. But I want to support local businesses so here I am. This place is ideal - off the beaten path, dim lighting (date night!), great atmosphere, nice owners, and excellent food/drink. The goat cheese starter, wild mushroom ravioli, and steak frites were all out of this world. I asked for the steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Their beer selection is also fantastic with a balanced mix of local and imported brews. I’ve lived in the area for several years and only found this place after searching “gastropub” on Google maps. Never even knew it existed before.. found my new go-to dinner spot.

The place was spacious and felt like a gem tucked away just of the main streets. Was quiet enough to catch up with friends without having to yell and the food was delicious! You won't find cocktails here though, only beer and wine.

What a local gem. This restaurant is located off the main roads, but is well worth finding. The food was delicious and they have many beers on tap and in bottles. They offer a wide selection of wines as well. This is one of the best restaurants in the area.

One of the best meals in Boston! After stopping here randomly with friends in 2014, I've been back 5-10 times. The menu and experience never disappoints. highly recommended for a low key but memorable meal

Went there on a date and had the best gnocchi in Boston (so far)! It was light, but creamy and so satisfying on a cold winter night. The bar is cozy, but the food is amazing. Treat yourself to this awesome restaurant!

Perfect date night spot. In fact I'm pretty sure half the restaurant was 1st or 2nd dates on this Wednesday based on the fact we heard 'So what do you like for music?' at least 3 times. Nice ambiance. It was quiet enough to hear your own thoughts & carry a conversation. I feel like it's slightly pricey for this area of Allston, but the food was excellent. I had the brussel sprouts and lamb meatballs.
