Mae's Market & Cafe

Excellent coffee and food options served in a bright airy space much larger than most places in the area. They have a good selection of take-away items as well, including an interesting wine selection I may come back for. The croissant was particularly flaky, buttery, and delicious, and the latte was very good. One thing I didn't appreciate was the breakfast burrito and breakfast croissant both featuring very creamy sauces. I know those are popular, but to me they detracted from what would have been otherwise wonderful dishes. It is just my personal taste, though. I just wish there were some other taste option available.

I just love this spot for a quiet place to work or read, or a nice spot to meet a friend for coffee or a casual lunch.

Last week I had the Chicken Tortilla Soup twice and it is delicious. I even brought a quart home! I also had the prosciutto, goat cheese and apple sandwich on a baguette which was perfect.

I have had lattes there often and always delicious.

This week I brought home the chicken enchiladas from the market and the beef bolgogi - each meal generously fed two of us and was so delicious.

The staff is always helpful, kind and attentive.

We need more places like these in every city. What a wonderful concept! Their coffee was great, and the sandwiches were on point. Definitely going there again whenever I get a chance.

The market shelves also looked great! Typically overpriced as usual for organic, hand crafted stuff, but good quality and neatly curated products it seemed.

The coffee is great. I had a pumpkin spiced latter and my girlfriend had a coconut matcha latte. Both were delicious.

We ordered some sandwiches for lunch and they were great too. The bulgogi sandwich was very tasty. The Italian sandwich was good as well.

The inside of the cafe is very cute. It was our first time here and we will definitely come back.

The absolute BEST place for lunch/snacks/overall life in Alexandria! This is the place old town has been missing. Delicious coffee, yummy sandwiches, salads are always great and in season. They even have to-go options if you are too lazy to cook dinner like me (the Korean bulgogi beef and enchiladas are great). Scones are seasonal and out of this world, sometimes I get some and freeze them. I still dream about the pumpkin scone at night that’s available only in fall. Don’t get me started about the daily quiche- pretty much got me through my pregnancy. And the tortilla soup is incredible! I tell my husband it’s like crack. Also randomly the energy balls are great- get like 5 and keep them in your fridge all week. Pretty much everything they offer is knock your socks off delicious. The owner is a sweetheart too! Basically plan to spend everyday here for the rest of your life. Enjoy!

This is such a beautiful cafe. Friendly staff and delicious food. I got the avocado toast, my son had the quiche, and my husband had the breakfast burrito with chorizo. Everyone loved their meal and we enjoyed the atmosphere so much.

This place has really beautiful decor, today I popped in quickly to take pictures and try their chair seed pudding which was vegan and delicious! I am looking forward to enjoying their bar and dinner sometime soon.

What a cute spot! Convenient location just a couple blocks off of King Street. Great atmosphere and well decorated and designed. Ordered two iced lattes, a breakfast sandwich, and a couple pastries - all delicious and ready within 5 minutes. Highly recommended stop for a trip to Old Town!

This was for a day outing with my girls. The area is pretty busy but you are still able to manage on getting parking. I ordered the mocha latte and it was made just right. Usually mocha can be bitter and I would add sugar but this drink didn’t require any of that. Just know this is a pricey location for the amount you get in a small cup but if price doesn’t matter then by all means go for it. I also ordered the spicy Italian sub and it was delicious. Not too spicy has the right amount of spicy and it’s freshly made. Definitely would return also this place is an instagram picture worthy location.

The perfect quaint little spot for a morning cup. The honey lavender latte and flat white we ordered were smooth and the service was excellent.

Only stopped in for coffee and the look and service was great. The Almond Croissant was amazing. Plan on going back soon to try more food.

As a local who spends way too much money on coffee, I firmly believe that Mae's makes the best espresso in Old Town -- trust me I have tried them all. They switched over the past year from Counter Culture (which is great, but a dime-a-dozen in the DC area) to Ceremony, an Anapolis-based roastery that is SO GOOD and I have not seen anywhere else in NoVA. If a latte or cappuccino is your schtick, you have to come here. They also have creative breakfast and lunch options that make lunch a real treat. And the space is very open, chic, and comfortable with many seat options. My only wish is that they serve breakfast a little later, but that is definitely more of a "me" problem then theirs.

The best coffee I’ve had in Alexandria out of the 10 or so shops I’ve tried. Their espresso is incredible, their pastries and warm food are too. Can’t recommend it enough.

The hazelnut latte was really good, and the inside of the coffee shop was so cute!

Was recommended to come here for lunch by a local and left pleasantly surprised. From the outside this is a very humble spot. I rolled my eyes when I saw avocado toast on the menu for $14, and decided on the egg sandwich and chai latte. Absolutely the best egg sandwich I have ever had, super fresh and fluffy. Chai latte was okay but I appreciate that they had macadamia nut milk. Service was lovely. Now I want to try their other sandwiches.

I always finish my AM run with a peanut butter PowerBall and iced tea from Mae's. The iced tea? BEST blend in town! A little lavender, black tea, secret Ingredients- ask for the "Charleston" blend! Ahhhhhhhhh...
