Roanoke River/Tinker Creek Bridge

Nice trail near a creek/river. We are new to the area and love that this runs through the city. We have slowly been exploring a little more of it every day. ( any tips on different locations along the trail and where we can park would be great) We love the train tracks, the wildlife and the beauty of it. I really wish people were better about not littering but we do try to pick up what we can.

This is a spectacular pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Roanoke River on a long trail beginning along Tinker Creek and continuing along g the Roanoke River.

Walked the Greenway by this and it is good but not exactly a place to celebrate, just pass. Actually I'm not sure exactly sure where this is talking about

This is a very nice area on the greenway. I have experienced a bad smell coming from the river (or the big above the river) on occasion but other than that it's a nice place to stop for a rest. They're typically people fishing here as well so you may not have the place to yourself.

I regularly use this path to commute to and from work. Certain areas are wet well after rain events due to run off and shading from vegetation. One example is the ramp coming down to the pavement from the Roanoke river bridge on the north bank of the river. Those planks of wood rarely see sun and have grown a brown/green slime that is incredibly slippery in the rain. Yesterday, while descending that ramp, during an attempt at a slight adjustment to the left, my bike slid out from under me leaving me sliding down the ramp, while striking my head on several of the vertical rails of the side-rail. (This would have made a great YouTube short, but no one was around filming). I ride helmeted so I was unharmed except for a left hip bruise and a few scrapes. The bike sustained minimal damage and I continued riding to my home.
This hazard should be navigated with great caution at all times, but more so during active precipitation.
