Real espresso, in every sense of the word. Nowhere else comes close to what is created at Cafe Fixe. They take the quality of their espresso and coffee seriously and are truly devoted to the craft. There are not many shops left like this on the world. I’d highly recommend a visit.

What a nice cafe! The batch brew here is good. What I love most is to have a hanger under the table for my backpack.

Small, clean cafe in the heart of Washington Square. High quality coffee with a selection of tasty pastries. Had a lemon scone and something called a Dolly bar, both good sized and delicious. Service was good and prices were reasonable. Not a lot of seating but interior was modern and tastefully appointed.
If you go by car you can park behind it through the parking lot entrance around the corner on Washington street

This cafe is cute and the drinks are super high quality. The cafe employees are polite and friendly, the bathroom is clean and well-kept, the drinks are tasty and made quickly, the atmosphere was good with tasteful music choices and I was able to study without distraction... Honestly, no complaints whatsoever! I'll absolutely be back again.

Truly a great espresso and perfect third wave experience. We visited from Montreal and found myself at home in this café. We went twice!

Great little cafe. Beans from Barrington coffee, a solid roaster. Knowledgeable barista and great espresso machine (Mirage Veloce) & grinders. They had all of Scott Rao's books on the shelf and for sale (coffee geeks know this is a good sign).

Always great jazz music playing and the atmosphere is excellent. Not many places to plug in your laptop…which is nice for a change! Conducive for conversation or reading.

The thing this place does best is coffee and tea. They care about making it well and it all tastes good. That’s very rare around here, unfortunately. But here, it’s good. That’s the focus. The vibe is nice, stools and light wood.

nice and quiet place... friendly and prompt service... good for coffee and pastries (no sandwiches or the like)... a couple of small tables to sit outside... plays soothing guitar music in the background... conveniently located next to the green line, in a local small business area (if you find cafe nero, then you must cross the street to get here)

Excellent café au lait and a very good cookie. Very cheerful server as well.
The neighborhood is nice too in case you need to stop for a beer somewhere later.

I’ve long been waiting to visit Cafe Fixe - one of the very few “serious” coffee shops that has that sleek Blue Bottle coffee shop look, except with a favorite local roaster - Barrington Coffee. I was delighted by the wide selection of light roast pour overs, and quite interested in returning to sample their espresso and moist looking selection of baked goodies. They also sell Barrington beans.

There were a few empty bar seats by the window and wall, with jazzy background music. Next time I would love to stay for a while to enjoy the coffee in the cozy, but bright cafe.

I had the breve (half and half) flat white and toffee cookie. Hands down both are the best I’ve tried so far in Boston!

Outstanding coffee place! The focus here is on light and medium roast coffees. They have a house blend and a guest coffee on rotation. You can also buy Barrington Coffee here which I really like. Lastly the pastries are amazing! I really enjoy trying the espresso on rotation when I'm there stocking up on beans.

Cafe Fixe serves exquisite espresso and the most delicious cappuccino I've ever had. My advice: order the cappuccino. Just say "small cappuccino." No modifications, no fancy extras. It's perfect as is. The phenomenal cappuccino in the bright, relaxing, jazzy environment makes me miss Cafe Fixe on a weekly basis. Enjoy your coffee in the shop if you have time. I went to college in Boston and make it a habit to get the cappuccino from Cafe Fixe every time I'm back.

The coffee is superb (and strong). The limited chocolates and pastries on sale are also fabulous. If you know and love coffee, go here.

If you actually like coffee - meaning strong coffee that tastes like coffee - Cafe Fixe is the best coffee in Boston - period. The only other comparable coffee experience I've had in the US is in New Orleans. If your preferred coffee is any espresso drink or a proper pour-over or french press, it is completely irrational to go anywhere else if you live in the area (yes - it is better than Blue Bottle). If your preferred coffee is some version of coffee flavored milk or coffee flavored milk shake or anything super sweet - go elsewhere.

I have read the reviews that comment on the owner, and they make no sense. Max is focused on him and his team making perfect coffee, not chatting you up. I've been buying coffee here for eight years and I assure you this is an upstanding small business you should be proud to support.

Bonus - they get a small selection of pastries every morning from a local bakery and they are fantastic.
