Southern Hills Animal Hospital

I trust the the whole team at Southern Hills. I think everyone there is friendly and knowledgeable. My dogs are beloved family members and it’s important for me to feel their needs are taken seriously. I’ve been using their service since before they moved to current location. ( 25 plus years) I’m very pleased with the services provided. I highly recommend their practice.

I love Southern Hills Veterinary Clinic. They took the time to explain everything to me when my Scrappy passed away, and now with my new puppy, they are doing a great job again. I’m telling all of my friends about you. 😘

I have used Southern Hills for almost 30 years and have recommended them to my friends. Dr. Mary, Dr. Preston, and the staff are wonderful, caring people. Other than Virginia Tech for special circumstances, I wouldn't take my dogs to anyone else.

Staff is absolutely beyond amazing. Not being from the area and having to be up here for my husbands job our sweet girl Meredith needed her shots and we knew it would be a while before being home to our regular veterinary we found this place and absolutely love them. They are very caring and listened and answered all my questions whether they may have been dumb or not. Whenever we are in this area we will definitely be using this vet!!!! Thank you guys soo much!!! Y’all definitely went beyond our expectations and treated our girl so well!!

We have been bringing our golden retriever and our cockapoo from day 1. The doctors and staff are there whenever we need them, they answer our questions and does an amazing job with our pups. I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone with pets. Thanks again!!!

YA'LL ARE THE BEST. WHEN MY 3 FURBABIES ARE SICK, I KNOW RIGHT WHERE TO GO. WE HAD 3 OTHER DOGS THAT HAVE SINCE PASSED THAT DR PRESTON ALSO TOOK CARE OF, NOW I HAVE THESE 3. HE AND THE MRS AND ALL OFFICE STAFF ARE JUST THE GREATEST. FOR ONE, YOU ALLOW THE PET PARENT TO GO INTO THE EXAMING ROOM - SOME PLACES DO NOT ALLOW. FOR TWO, NO MATTER HOW BUSY YOU ARE, THE DRS TAKE THEIR TIME WITH THE PET PARENT WITHOUT RUSHING - NO MATTER HOW MANY QUESTIONS WE HAVE, THEY ARE VERY PATIENT.

Very quick to get us an appointment on the weekend when no other places were open. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, highly recommend!

I have nothing but high praise to give this place and am so glad I found a great clinic to bring my cats! The assistants and techs are attentive and kind, and the doctors are thorough and gentle. Their rates are extremely reasonable, and the business hours are SO convenient. Bonus points for the sparkling cleanliness of the building and the calm, quiet lobby. Southern hills animal hospital is the only place I will ever take my pets. They care about the animals and you. I have been taking my animals for 15 years.

They r absolutely wonderful. I took my dog Sally in and they cared for her with care and compassion. Everyone I spoke with was so awesome and they really care about your pet. Sally had a bladder problem and they did everything to help her. I couldn't ask for better people to go to with your babies. Thank u so very much for everything Southern hills animal hospital.

My pets have been going here for about a year after a devastating experience with my previous vet of 20 years.
They are all very friendly and easy to talk to. They even put up with my pup when it’s time to get her nails trimmed. I know it’s not an easy task with her. So far, so good! My pup is getting ready to get spayed there and I feel good knowing that she is in caring hands!

Dr.s Preston n Mary Thornton are the absolute best all around. My Red Heeler Rusty went from a pup until his passing 2 yrs ago at 14. He had some skin issues after my husband left. Grieving I believe, but they never gave up on him n he was cures. Last Saturday my relative's dog was very sick. He had to be euthanized. She said everyone was very caring. HATS OFF TO EVERYONE THERE !!

Absolutely wonderful experience taking my pup there. They worked me in quickly, and my pup was back to himself in no time. Not only is the staff wonderful to work with, but the facility is clean and inviting. I will continue to recommend them to clients, friends, and family.

Everyone was nice to me. My cat is doing much better. I took my second cat to them for her rabies vaccine. I recommend Southern Hills Animal Hospital!

I recently moved to the area and my supervisor lives in the same area as I do. Knowing that she loves her two dogs so much, I asked her for a vet recommendation and she recommended Southern Hills. I've only had two of my three cat babies there so far but I can tell I've definitely made the right choice. Dr. Thornton (Preston) and Dr. Clarke have been wonderful.

I can tell everyone at this clinic is absolutely dedicated to providing the best care to the animals that they see. I love my cats very very much and it's very nerve-wracking to have to find a new vet when you move and I'm so glad that I found Southern Hills.

I was blown away by the fact that this vet had Urgent Care and I didn’t have to go to EVS. My 12 yr old Havanese has had UTI’s off and on since May 2022. She was spiking a fever over 105 on a Sunday morning. Normally I would be frantic because my regular vet isn’t available. I received a recommendation from Angels of Assisi to give Southern Hills a call next time I needed Urgent Care. Called them at 8:23. They called back IN 10 MINUTES and had an appt set for me at 11:45. Dr Preston Thornton came out to explain some things and offer to do new bloodwork etc. He came out again and explained medication recommendations and scenarios that could cause my dog’s issues. Thorough and very matter of fact which is what I needed to hear. One thing that really impressed me was the discharge papers: detailed right down to how much of each med prescribed, how much to give and when to start. That’s a first for me at any vet besides Angels of Assisi and when you’re juggling 4 meds it’s very much appreciated. I also liked seeing a good summary of what was done-every visit should be like that and I feel like I’ve been missing that at my other vet. I have 2 “senior” pets at 12+ years old and having Urgent Care is a godsend. Hopefully things will improve for my dog but only time will tell. I feel like she received excellent care and without knowing her complete history Dr Preston did an impressive job diagnosing and suggesting a treatment plan: he definitely gave me options. Urgent care was greatly appreciated because a high fever in your pet is life threatening and every moment counts. I know that no matter which way this goes for her we’ve started on a path to treat her and give her good quality of life and if we can’t then it wasn’t for lack of trying. As a side note, the waiting area is very comfortable and inviting: coffee maker, cushioned seats, and on a cold rainy day, it made everything better. A real lifesaver today!
