I've been in the welding industry for 10 years and have never encountered a staff so knowledgeable about the products they offer. Its refreshing to deal with folks behind the counter that are proficient and humble, and will go above and beyond to make sure you get what you need to get the job done

Today was my first visit but I was impressed. I went to exchange propane tanks and it was easy and quick. Prices and service were better than when I’ve tried to swap tanks at other stores like Home Depot. 👍

They have their quirks, but, they are nice guys. Got in and out quickly. Ask about their CO2 bottle exchange program; get it explained so that you can understand why.

I want this to be the most HELPFUL review.
Problems people encounter:
- Weird/confusing phone tree.
- Slow service.
My perspective:
Yes, the phone tree is not user friendly for people not in the business, so to speak. When you dial and get the voice prompts, instantly press "0" for operator, then tell whomever answers you want the front desk.
Concerning the slow service, manufacturing is in a major state of decline, particularly here in the Bay Area. Money has shifted towards big business/national contractors and away from the individual/do-it-yourselfer/shop owners. This means we small people have to wait, sometimes. Business is conducted on a larger scale, and there isn't the money available to cater to us wee folks with lots of personnel in retail stores. So, it helps to keep this in mind when you go up to the counter and the salespeople are busy with long phone calls and the line of customers is moving slowly.
If you can find better service, elsewhere, then do comment about such.
For myself, I haven't been to ANY other places, but I find the counter people, Matt and Chris, to be very personable and helpful. The prices I've received here have been significantly lower than elsewhere. A porta-torch tanks fill for me was about $35, total, whereas I was quoted almost twice that amount from Airgas in San Leandro. The consumables prices (RG45 and flux coated bronze brazing rod) were very good and better than what I found on Ebay.
So, I encourage you to support this local business and be aware that if you go into the store, have some patience and be prepared to spend some time.
Yes, I would give five stars if they had more counter personnel, but that would defy the current market state.

Very good prices (like other supply stores, there are no prices on the items so you have to look online or wait for someone to help you) but extra slow service. Employees wander in and out of the store or from the back room, see you waiting to pay and don’t even nod in your direction. The checkout process is also laborious so there is no relief even when you are attended to. I’ll keep coming anyway, it’s a good shop they just need to step up the customer service.

Didn't work for me.
I tried calling first, but all I got was a phone tree with a bunch of names, no option for general inquires. These folks are just on the other side of the moat from my island of Alameda so I just drove over. Though they were close, it was a real pain getting there, they are at the end of a court and a big rig was trying to back up so I waited for him for a few minutes. When I got the chance I drove into the Alliance parking lot only to find that all the spots were filled (with employees I'm guessing as there was only one customer at the counter.) So I parked half a block away, not that it's that big a deal, except that the area is pretty sketchy.
I walk in with my little CO2 cylinder and when I finally get the attention of the guy behind the counter I kind of got the impression that the answer was going to be no before I even asked the question. He looked puzzlingly at my little cylinder then said he'd never seen anything like it before. Guess I have to take his word for it, but its hard to believe that with the thousands of cylinders in the parking lot and a business that specializes in all sorts of gases...but what do I know.
This place might be good if you are looking for basic welding gas etc, but avoid if you are looking for food grade CO2.

I was a longstanding customer, but was being charged for tanks that had been returned months earlier. I called Lisa and Matt over the course of 6 months: they acknowledged that their internal system had made an error, but never corrected for it, and never returned any calls or emails.
Finally Matt advised that he'd send a full summary of my account and refund check, and when I called to follow-up, he completely reneged. Being sloppy is one thing, but being dishonest is entirely different.

Phone tree confusing and useless, left message days ago that wasn't returned, so I drove there. showed up and they were closed despite arriving withing published hours. Thanks for wasting my time.

I went there on Sunday 5/8/2016 and the business did not exist. I was not at the listed address and when I called them no one answered thepohne even though they say they are open on Sunday. I was bummed because I drove 40 minutes to get there.
