A short hike in the woods that kids would love to go on. This is the trolls hike aka Diamond Canyon Bridgeview trail in Oakland. An urban escapade in redwoods. The trolls are really fun and midway, there are swings which are a highlight for kids and adults alike.

We spotted so many interesting creations. Hats off to @bridgeviewtrolls for maintaining such an amazing trail with trolls to encourage everyone to explore nature and enjoy a refreshing time in the redwoods.

Unfortunately, some trolls have been destroyed due to vandalism. But more trolls are popping up and the trail is ever more interesting.

Be mindful of the steep side on one of the trail sides. It will be a dangerous fall, so keep your kids close. Dogs are allowed on this trail if on leash. There are houses near the Bridgeview Blvd entrance. Be mindful and keep your voices low. Street Parking is limited on this side. Try to arrive at the Monterey Blvd side because here there is street parking along the road and the residents will not be disturbed .

Please follow trail etiquette and leash your pets. This is to avoid danger for small kids hiking here.
We witnessed a dog suddenly chasing a small kid and he would have fallen of the ledge if he didn't stop just in time. It is a very dangerous fall, please respect rules and keep the trail safe for everyone.
Poison oak is seen aplenty here. Steep stairs from Monterey blvd side.

Another hidden gem in Oakland.

Lots of great things to discover on these trails!

In summer months it's great to hike down and along Laurel Creek, keeping cool by the water under the canopy of shade trees.

After a strong rain the creek may be running a bit too swiftly to traverse.

Visit and don't be afraid to explore!

Love this trail. I usually start at Dimond Park near the western end of this canyon/hiking area. There are two trails on either side of the creek - one lower near the creek itself and the other higher up along the ridge. Lots of poison oak so be careful.

Love this quick hike. Partially runnable, partially creeky, and close to some great eateries to grab a bite at afterwards.

I came here for the first time today. It's a beautiful trail! I saw a lot of families and dogs out. Unfortunately I also saw some poop bags left on the trails so be mindful of your steps. Parking was easy to find. After the trail, my friend and I enjoyed lunch in this shady "bench" area.

A wonderful daily walk destination. The beginning portion of trail roadside are often eroded that I need to be extra careful to avoid walking too close to the cliff side to avoid a fall into the cliff! Also when young children are coming along, I would not let them free running by themselves for the same reason. After 10-15 minutes, you will start see wiring fences on the cliff side which is great and is really what we need also near the trail head! Other than this road side erosion safety issue, I really enjoy this trail and all the nice people we meet every day we are there! And their children and their dogs!
Also a nice lady reminded us that there are poison oaks everywhere and showed us some that were near us on Saturday.. You should be aware too if you like to touch some of the plants like we were showing grandkids the wonders of nature!

Great temperature for hiking. Easy fun for the whole family. Photograph your favorite troll or all of them. Nice patch of black berries close to trail.

Plenty of fun for you and your canine pals, along the creek, along hidden redwood tree trails, up plant covered sketch trails, crazy vine ropes hanging from mature growth, over and under fallen trees, watch out for lots of beautiful poison oak and falling golf balls from the nearby range...bart Simpson would get rich collecting all the practice balls hidden like Easter eggs along the upper trails. Venture down under past the Oakmore/Rocky's market bridge into the Saulsa trail head area and see some interesting graffiti art around the creek drainage structures, and above you under the Park Blvd road passes. Be prepared to get your shoes dirty & wet, your hair decorated with vegetation, the cuffs of your pants filled with debris, and a big satisfying smile on your face and that of your canine pal. Not for those in a hurry.

Great trail for getting out with dogs! If you get frustrated by off-leash dogs or feel a lot of fear around dogs, you might want to choose a different trail.
