I wish more people can come visit this place and understand what hardships and discrimination our earlier generations had suffered through.

I can’t imagine many of us today are tough enough to go through what they endured.

Very well-done and informative museum about the past and present situations of immigration in USA. Especially the entry free hospital is the best part. It is a pity that history repeats itself, in Europe EU is also shutting off its borders for immigrations.

We went on a field trip there and it was awesome. A lot of walking so we grabbed walking sticks and proceeded. Bill the volunteer who was our guide was very knowledgeable and so very friendly. He had a very personal connection to the immigration center. Please go and do the tour. It was well worth it. We had a blast. The ferry ride over was so cool as well.

15-20mins ferry ride frm SF Ferry Building depending on how the weather is. Theres picnic areas on the island, and different trails for good biking, hiking so come prepared with water to stay hydrated. They do have whole island tour on their trams/shuttle with times provided & immigration building tour is separate, make sure have cash to pay for the tours. Island does have small cafe, with limited menu, snacks & beverages. Restrooms are decent.

Very educational museum. We entered the museum with no plan to spend much time but we ended up spending over 1 hour in the building. I would highly recommend everyone to visit and learn about the history of immigrants! (see photos for just a small part of the history)

Thanks Elizabeth, a respected volunteer, for sharing the story of her family and answering my questions patiently. She was eager to pour all history she knew to us.

This is a good place for a day trip. I haven't been here for 20+ years and there are lots of changes. For one, the roads are now paved. You can also rent bikes or get steam tour of the island by the pier. Of course you can also hike the island like me. You will definitely enjoy the great views and history the island had to offer.

It's a beautiful, yet haunting place. The beauty comes from the views of San Francisco Bay, the hiking and biking trails, the old buildings and wildlife. The haunting can be seen and felt by learning more about Angel Island and what went on from 1910 to the early/mid 40s. I encourage everyone to watch a couple of short documentaries on YouTube before setting foot on Angel Island.

Anyone who themselves or whose ancestors are immigrants to this country should definitely pay a sincere visit to this place. It records the hardship that first-generation immigrants have to endure when first landing in this country that they have barely known.

I wish this historical building and the stores behind it will remind us how difficult and hopeless the society becomes when racism and populism are prevalent.

BTW, the $5/person entrance fee is probably the most worthy ticket that I have spent in my life so far.

This is an amazing part of American cultural heritage! Come and tour the amazing island (it's a good hike or a shuttle) and spend the afternoon learning about immigration and internment on Angel Island. It's extremely important that we have sites like this to inspire future generations and to remember the lessons of the past. The fee is very low and the information is great. You can take a tour or go at your own pace. I'd recommend an hour and a half, but I spend more time really taking in the building and exhibits. Take a ferry and enjoy an informative island day.

The Immigration Station on Angel Island is full of history and some great North East views of SF Bay. A lot historical information is shared and memorials for those who immigrated to the US and first arrived at Angel Island.

This is a very informative place. The exhibits are excellent, and if you like history, they have very effective ways of interesting anyone, nearly any age, in the subjects. It’s a welcome walk or shuttle to the site.

I was amazed to learn about the history of this island and how it has been serving so many generations and different purposes.

You should definitely take the tram, and come back later for a hiking or cycling, their beach is a welcoming place for kids and you can even bbq!
