Love walking or running the trails at Batiquitos. Dog friendly, mostly flat trail with lots of places to stop, rest, & soak in the peaceful scenery. Plenty of dog bag and trash spots too and they have water dish by the main entrance for dogs. Or, hike the hill trails for more of a challenge. But truly, not too hard, good amounts of shaded areas, great for families. 3 miles total if you walk the main trail all the way down & back.

Very nice trails for walking and running. It is pet friendly as long as your pet is on a leash. Unfortunately, especially for me, biking is not allowed. But I would still recomend it. There are tons for birds and wild life. As well as an online tour for people who want to learn more about the geography and history. Definitely will be coming back soon.

Beautiful easy trail around a preserve. Dogs are allowed, but on a leash. Great for all ages. Lists of places to rest and enjoy the scenery. Snake sittings on the trail be careful on surroundings along the trail.

A great site for birdwatch and fitness walking. Great weather in the spring. A very friendly and informative Nature Center. Many public parking lots.

Great place for a walk. I volunteer there splitting wood. If you need any for a romantic beach fire, stop by the nature center and make a donation.

The Lagoon Foundation maintains a lovely, kid and dog friendly walking trail along the north side of the Lagoon. QR code interpretive signs along the way for the curious. The 1.6-mile out and back (3.2 mile round trip) trail offers several benches for quiet contemplation or rest, and there’s a great little nature center with restroom, informative displays and items for purchase.

Very popular with bird watchers, as the Lagoon is a Nature Preserve and home to many migratory bird species, along with year round residents.

Parking is available at the west end of the trail, near the Nature Center, at the East end, and at one point in between.

Wheelchair friendly parking and access to the Nature Center, but not on the trail—it’s dirt.

Peaceful (if you can ignore the freeway noise on the West end) place to get into nature and experience what the coastal environment looked like pre-development (if you squint and ignore the signs of development everywhere). Birders are in for a feast of shore birds and raptors. A great place to go for a run or hike with the whole family.

Fantastic local trail, great to observe tides at sunrise or sunset, amazing little center, dog friendly (leashed) Big crowds at magic hour and a handful of photographers, doing portrait and/or wildlife. TONS OF BENCHES.

A note to Cyclists: Google Maps is a dumb robot that doesn't understand this trail does not allow bikes on it, don't trust dumb robots, read signs, read reviews, leave only footsteps.

One of very few civilized trails with benches and no rattle snake hazard.

Nice cool morning for a walk. We were there from about 9am to 10am. Most people had masks on and dogs on leash, which was really nice to see. The main trail is wide enough to distance from others. We saw lots of water birds plus other birds in the tall reeds. The salt marsh is such an incredible ecosystem!

One of my favorite walks in the Last Costa area! So nice in the late afternoons as the sun is setting. Lots of birds and wildlife. Trails in most areas are wide enough for people to pass. There are multiple areas all over for sitting and facing at the water, also some hidden areas if you want to be off the trails and take in the peaceful environment.

Awesome place to take your pup! There is a freeway on one side, but it doesn't distract from the nature too much! We had a good time! There are poop bags and recycle/trash bins through out the trail

We love going on the Batiquitos Lagoon hike. We've been twice already! It's so beautiful and we love learning about the wildlife there. You'll see herrings, a bird that sits on the lagoon, and a wood rat den along the trail. It's dog friendly and I've seen many kids there. Definitely recommend!!
