San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Reviews

SF MOMA was breathtaking with expansive galleries perfectly curated. We loved wandering through each level (7 levels, so plan your time accordingly). We visited on Local Thursdays. We were told it was busier than normal. However, it was still easy to see everything and no too crowded to enjoy. We specifically visited to see the Infinite Love exhibit. Show up on time, but not early. Your time slot will appear busy but it goes quickly.
This might be one of my favorite museums. I plan to visit often while visiting SF for business.

The San Francisco museum of Modern Art has a number of exhibits that you can spend your entire day looking through. The museum has exhibits of varying styles and tones, so there should be something for everyone to enjoy. One note is that some exhibits require additional tickets. We arrived in the afternoon and by then they were sold out of those tickets. Be sure to plan ahead if those are the exhibits you want to see!

A beautiful museum with all sorts of artworks, from photographs to sculptures. One can spend an entire afternoon walking through the different exhibits. One thing to note is that the tickets for special exhibits (such as the Kusama one) are usually sold out if you try to buy in person, so I would recommend ordering ahead if you plan on visiting those. There are also ample amounts of nude photographs, so if you're planning to visit with young children, I would research the specific exhibits before entering.

I really love visiting contemporary art museums when I'm in a new city, and SFMOMA was one of the most memorable ones I've been to! They have a huge collection of everything from famous modern art to really unique and experimental pieces. Everything is well-maintained, the exhibitions are excellently organized, and the staff are so friendly! I really liked how they set up their artworks. Even though I got lucky and visited on a free event day, I think the admission price is definitely worth it. I mean every word of this praise!

Wow, absolutely huge modern art museum in the heart of San Francisco. A huge and spectacular place, great architecture, tons and tons and TONS of exhibits and pieces, it will definitely take you a full afternoon. So much to see, so many spectacular pieces. A little pricey imo but worth it enough I guess. There's a great "Where's Waldo" vantage point hidden off of an outdoor section. Also, the bathrooms are a different solid color on every floor.

Amazing and at times overwhelming experience. We were there for about 4 hours and didn't see everything. The exhibits are large and navigating them is at times difficult, but it's fun. Take your time, drink lots of water and enjoy.

Love this museum, The Fischer collection alone is a great reason to go here, beautifully laid out and easy to walk through. Yummy lunch on the floor. Wonderful Kusama interactive art. Just loved it!

They have definitely improved the artistic offerings at the museum with quite good food options also. It is $30 to enter and a 130 for an annual membership which is probably a bargained. I wish they would have just a few more photography exhibits but I am happy with what I saw.

They do make a great job. The place is awesome and the galleries and exhibitions they bring are great. It is not so crowded and membership terms are reasonable.
Their permanent modern art collection is not only great but they have a section open to the public in the second floor and Diego Rivera on the first floor. Always.

There is a Matisse. Would I need to say anything? A must go place if you step by San Francisco. Everything is well placed, and well paced, in under 2:30 hours you can see most of the things in all of the floors. The elevator is really strong: it feels like going to space 🚀 ! Maybe that's a bit of a downside but I even liked that. I really suggest also the dark room with the concert at the 4th or 5th floor: there is the exhibition "the visitors" 2012, which is really calm and deep, and soothing. This museum is essentially a place to take care of our creative souls.

I was at a convention and didn't have time to go in, but the sleeping person on top was Awesome. And in the lobby was a massive sound/video board showing awesome sights and sounds, it was mesmerizing.

Great experience! We purchased a membership which allowed us to book tickets for the Infinity Love exhibit for free. We had a wonderful time. The atmosphere is quiet and there is lots of room. We had a great time.

This museum is amazing for family trip! First of all, you can re-enter all day with tickets, great for kids. Then it is very spacious, with so many cool art installations that will mesmerize the kids. Highly recommend it!

It’s a special experience when you allow time to pass and you’re in awe of the masterpiece that’s in front of you!
The SF MOMA was a great experience of the appreciation of art and exploration!
Beautifully curated pieces, easy to follow flow, amazing atmosphere throughout and peaceful all at the same time.
If you’ve got a couple hours, definitely check out this museum! So much history, culture, and ART!!

My favorite place in San Francisco is SOMA! I've been coming here for years especially when the kids were younger. It's still my favorite spot and rightfully so! The artists are brilliant, memorable and passionate and diverse. These photos are good yet better to view in their intended gallery prospective. Excellent opportunity to celebrate artistic talent with family, friends or just a solo tour. Yes! SOMA gets my vote! Enjoy your special day! 💖

We went on a kids day through the library I believe so we were all free which was super awesome. The Kids actually really enjoyed it. I try to not take it too seriously so if they are bored of an area we just moved on but I think it was overall. I had a really great experience . It was also Good to get the kids interested in art

Intriguing and interesting art, in varied themes across multiple floors, both indoors and outdoors. Can take at least 3 hours to go around. There's a cafe upstairs and a museum shop downstairs. Paid street parking outside.

It was exactly what I hoped it would be with the permanent collection. I really enjoyed the rooftop restaurant. Take a friend and take lots of pictures here! The yayoi kusama exhibit isn't worth it.

My first time going here. So many amazing and beautiful art pieces and abstracts to see. I would definitely come back here again. It was a great experience. I had a wonderful time here.

SFMoMA is quite likely my favorite museum in the Bay Area. There’s multiple sculpture gardens, and seven floors of exhibits.
The current special exhibits (October ‘23) are Yayoi Kusama’s Infinite Love and The Visitors, both of which were worth the trip! The Kusama just opened, so you need to buy tickets a month ahead of time, and even with that, there was a huge line to get into her exhibit.
