George's Buffet

Was in IC for a wedding and accidentally dropped my wallet nearby- it was luckily turned in to them. They found a way to contact me almost immediately and mail it to me within the week. When I’m back I will absolutely be ordering a burger and a beer at George’s! Very kind people.

Awesome,awesome cheeseburger! Moving, working, Hamms signs! Good selection of beers of course and this is one of the last old school Iowa city bars that has remained intact one of my top ten bars of all time.

Simple beer and burger

Don’t expect much.
It a good beer and fabulous basic burger. The wall paper is from my grandmothers bathroom.

I was blown away. Next time I am getting the Richard burger.

Legendary tavern. Nicest and friendliest dive bar in Iowa IMHO. Menu is cheeseburger or hamburger or cheese sandwich and chips. You really can't go wrong with that

You hambergers are great! You can get ANUTHING here. (As long as it is a hamberger.) Oh the hot nuts(cashews) are great too. The beer and other libations are COLD. The service is warm, fast and friendly. I will get some photos next time. They have old time moving-water beer signs.

This iconic Iowa City bar is a required destination for all visitors to the University of Iowa. From the diversity on tap to the equanimity of the staff to the incredible burgers (which are nearly good enough to tempt this vegan to stray), George’s is a place you’ll always feel at home. Even when the lights come on at 2AM and they tell you to find a home.

George's is one of the best bars in Iowa City. It is super laid back with awesome staff. I love the new outdoor seating area that they recently added. The place is small but it has a ton of character! I would highly recommend ordering a burger while here... they are amazing! Love this bar :)

Best Burgers in town! Been going here since I was a kid to get burgers. The atmosphere is perfect, I wish there were more places in town with a similar vibe. The staff is always great and have been on top of all the covid protocols, which is refreshing. I always make sure to stop here when back in town.

Best doggone burgers! The menu is simple: cheese sandwich, hamburger, cheeseburger or a Richard-burger (find out on your own). Order one, two or ten. This hidden gem is worth a trip. (Actually, it's not really hidden to those who know.)

Cheeseburgers are insanely good. Beer is great. Atmosphere is awesome. Highly recommend.

My favorite little “dive” in Iowa City. A cozy bar with a nice atmosphere. A great place to go if you want to avoid the student crowd! They have limited food but a full bar and a great staff

Our night at George's was great! Ice cold beer and mixed drinks and one of the best burgers I've ever had! I learned their burgers made Esquire magazine, so they are a definite try! Alex and Kelsey were the best bartenders and made us feel so welcome. I would highly recommend George's!

The coziest bar in Iowa city! There's an outside patio in the summer, and you can get the best late night burger in town.

Wonderful staff, excellent ambience. Only place in town to grab a dirty martini and get yourself a cheeseburger with some hot nuts on the side.

Good place, great burgers.

The people there are friendly. But then there's always this popular saying about Midwestern niceness, so it could as well be it. As a writer and student at the Iowa Writers Workshop, I enjoy the camaraderie in it.

Honestly a dive bar straight out of the 80s and I mean that in the best possible way. It has christmas lights, velvet walls and some of the best burgers in iowa city. Not to mention a fine selection of some older style brews: Hamm's, Schlitz and what not. Definitely a bar for the late hours of the night and best visited with friends.
