New Pioneer Food Co-op

I love this place! I grew up in Iowa City and this was always where we shopped because we were a family of food allergies. I went back while visiting in Iowa City and it brought back all the feels. The Coralville store is nice and larger, but this is the original and a gem. If you are vegan or dairy free, the vegan cheese selection is insane! I've lived in a handful of larger cities and no where has even come close to the vegan cheese offerings here! The freshly made food and desserts are awesome too, with many vegan options!

I got my friend’s wedding cakes and it was a great decision. All cakes are beautiful and delicious with healthy options. The cakes became a great decoration for the wedding party. Thank you, New Pi Bakery!

daily sourdough, properly earen by tearing chunks, significantly beats their top shelf shushie harf to believ witb 3 different shushi all setz bar in town.. the sourdough is actually on a while nother level. Co-op nlt just a grocery store, a clerl from poland ended up owning 1/3 land in 319,💯🤜🤛

Went there for some local coffee beans and got a couple dope bags of the strong stuff. Good selection, very friendly staff, and a good location. Me and the homies love New Pioneer.

Friendly staff, very fresh produce. Almost all products in the store are locally sourced, so they support the local economy. They are a bit more pricey than the chain grocery stores, however, this can be averted with a one time membership cost of $60, if one plans to shop there frequently.

High quality staff and products. Iowa city wouldn’t be the same without this place.

All the staff are great, anything you need to know they figure it out for ya! Things aren’t cheap but I mean they have a lot of things and lots of organic stuff and diet friendly. So that’s the benefit of coming here :)

Super cool local shop with tons of healthy food. Workers were so kind and did everything they could to try and help even when they weren't sure of my questions. Highly recommend!

Been coming here since I was a little kid. Everytime I'm in Iowa City this is a must stop. Their bread, spread and granola fudge bars are #AMAZING. #BRING BACK THE PESTO PASTA

The people who work here are by far the happiest grocery store employees I've ever seen. Always really nice and polite, always have something really cool to show me. + It's a coop so it's just that much cooler.

I'd rate this 6/5 if I could.

Local hippy grocery store. All natural, organic, locally grown, vegan, etc. options are abundant. Popular brands of household products as you would find at Walmart or Target are not available, only organic/local/etc brands. Speciality foreign foods also available, such as European cheeses and wines and pre-prepared Asian-style dishes like sushi. For example, this is the only place I could find edamame & edible bugs downtown. Prices are high, products are reliably of high quality. I recommend primarily patronizing for fresh produce, as the higher prices are the most worth it for these high-quality products, generally. Very clean and organized store and helpful employees. Patronage is primarily democrat/left-leaning upper middle class and wealthy Iowa City citizens. Staff is mostly middle class 20-somethings. Debit card preferred over credit, but accepting all forms of payment. Paper bags only. An ATM is located here.

still the best co-op ever, IMO. I should probably bring an empty suitcase to stock up next time I'm in town.

Great place to shop for organic, healthy, and local food, but definitely a bit on the expensive side.

Best place for local produce & goods. Also have almost anything else you might need, at a decent price, but just a smaller selection. The staff is always friendly & helpful!

We are so lucky to have fresh produce - so fresh - here year round. I can taste the vitamins. Delicious.

This store is by far one of the best organic stores I have ever been to in my entire life. No joke. Every time I'm in Coralville or Iowa City I always hit the store up. They have an amazing atmosphere, and the deals are awesome. There's seriously nothing in there that I cannot find!

This spot has it all – great local products, great local coffee, a nice selection of hearty breakfast and lunch options, delicious soups, and who could forget the specials? Their prices are a little bit higher than Target and the like, but local and convenience definitely makes up for the difference. I always end up finding more than I planned when visiting!
