Polk County General Assistance

I had no problem getting any help with my rent August of 2016 after having my baby.

I haven't had a bad experience with General Assistance in Polk County. I would like to suggest maybe adding the website or email contacts to your information due to COVID-19.

Brought a client to get some help, I personally didn't go any further than the waiting room. The man sitting behind the desk has absolutely no people skills. He had a rude condescending tone to my client and others, a deaf lady walked in and he look at her in the rudest way, rubbing his face, rolling his eyes. He's all I needed to give this place a bad review. I suggest y'all find some people with people skills cause if I didn't have a client with me I would've gone off on him!

Waste of time rude they lie give you false hope run you around waste your gas. Then deny you why does this place exist

If I could give them ZERO stars I would!!!! JEWEL did my interview and was the most judgemental, condescending, UNEDUCATED person I've spoken with in a long time. When I told him I was self-employed he continue to ask me WHERE I was self-employed at, just to give an example. NOBODY there actually LISTENS, they DENIED me any kind of help because they're UNABLE to actively LISTEN TO ANYONE!!! They denied me because they said my income was too low..... ISN'T THAT THE POINT?!?!? I told them that YES, MY INCOME WOULD BE CHANGING BASED ON JOBS ALREADY LINED UP AND HIRED FOR, and they denied me because they claim that my income WON'T BE INCREASING??? Literally JUST SAID IT WOULD BE!! Apparently they're still trying to work out the logistics of being self-employed and what that means!!!!! This county could do better if it DID NOTHING, because then at least there wouldn't be all these people feeling demeaned and downright violated!!

I would not recommend this place to anybody this place is supposed to be set up to assist people in need this is not the case they deny more people than they help I use them I would say six or seven years ago prior to me having to use them this year for rent that is that a thousand dollars they put $225 towards my rent which I am highly grateful for I have a disconnect notice for my water I fell on hard times I lost my job for two months and got behind all I needed was a little bit of help from this program so that my family could have water I have a house full of kids I have a grandbaby and now we have to deal with the loss of not having water I have always worked currently employed however I do not get a paycheck until the 19th watch does not cover my disconnect date are people that are genuine people and do not want to scam the system and that like working like myself to the stipulations of this program I'm absolutely positive it's not beneficial to a lot of people this program really needs to take a look at some of the regulations and how many people they denied as opposed to how many people they help and I thought of what age bracket they cater to more so and all of the programs that help with your water bill there's no funding so to some who really need the help general assistance is all that there is and who wants to rely on a place that always denies people I hope some of your people in that office never lose your job and fall on hard times because you'll meet the same fate that you return to others

I have read everyone's reviews and I had to admit that I understand what everyone going through, I try to get help do to my job that laid me off I try to get help paying rent the lady Rochelle Griffith gave me an interview and laughed at the other end at my situation and I'm not too happy about it, you never know what people are going through. And she was getting too personal and less than an hour after my phone interview she automatically denied me. Some people are just too judgmental

Don’t trust the QR code they give you. I was waiting outside the already crowded room. Mine said I was second in line so I walked into the main room. When I didn’t hear my number being called I asked the clerk and she said they called me a long time ago? She also said I had to take another number after already waiting an hour and 15 minutes. I can’t tell you how much despise going here.

Downright awful. The secretary was nice but the workers were horrible. I needed help with paying my rent and they denied me because one of the workers put down the wrong information on the sheet before I talked to another worker who denied me.

Very poor people skills, acting like they have no patience or communication with people in need. It's sad to see a Walmart greeter have more patience than a human service worker.

We felt violated looked at like we are criminals if I could give zero stars I would you only help foreigners no wonder the homelessness is so bad never felt like that before

I had bad experiences here. Employees here need more caring and compassion for the people that come through their doors due to hard circumstances.

They won't help you unless you can already afford to pay. Completely useless program that refuses to help those in need.

Just an over all bad experience and I feel there racist to some extent, I didnt like how they treated me a lot of the workers are very rude
