Cooper's on 5th

My friends and I met for lunch. We were all happy with the meal, the service and the atmosphere. I recommend this cozy restaurant. 2 of us had the chicken salad sandwich with potato wedges, and 2 of us had the Cuban special with house salad and wedges. Very very tasty!

Delicious food, very friendly and prompt service. Cozy bar ambiance.
The meatloaf we had was one of the best I have ever had.
Drinks were ok, could be stronger.. But that's a personal preference.
Will definitely go back regularly.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. The menu is very interesting and if you like a little or a lot of spice this is the place for you.

Has a touch of old school vibe but without the stuffiness, and with a touch of modern casual. 90s-2000s alternative rock was playing in what otherwise might feel like an old very small steakhouse pub. DEFINITELY get the daily egg roll special - these aren’t Chinese egg rolls but random, fun, flavors. For example this week had shrimp and grits egg rolls during Mardi Gras timing. The short rib specialty dinner was delicious, melt in your mouth. Cocktails were all solid. Server was very nice although not the most attentive during our visit. The bread pudding was very good - I have had better but this one was up there.

On our most recent visit we sat on the patio which was nice. The steak de burgo medallions were fantastic! Cocktails were also very good this visit.

Fun little restaurant with great ambiance and a small dining space. You'll definitely want to set up a reservation ahead of time! The food was very tasty.

Delicious dinner in a quaint restaurant. I followed the advice of other reviewers and booked a reservation ahead of time. I highly recommend doing this because the restaurant is not very big. We had the steak deburgo (a local specialty) and the short ribs. They both tasted amazing! I also recommend going across the street to the Winchester Public House after dinner for some delicious cocktails. 🍸

Had a great dining experience. The nachos were great! The short ribs were tender and tasty. Enjoyed the chocolate lava cake for dessert.

The food is amazing! Everything I've had there is all balanced and seasoned very well. The staff works as a team and if you watch, they always grab empty plates/glasses for each other's tables.

To say I adore Cooper's is an understatement. We've been eating there for almost as long as it has been open, and I'm so happy to see how they've grown in popularity and improved their menu. I'm sad I can't just walk in on Friday nights anymore, but having to make a reservation is just a sign that Cooper's is still doing things right.

We just ate there two weeks ago because I saw they had a loco moco special. Their creativity is always fun and delicious!

I highly recommend trusting the specials and saving room for dessert.

My only complaint is that we can't make reservations online. I hate calling. But that's just me.

Cozy little spot. The food….oh my goodness. The wonton-like chips that come with the nachos and spinach dip are insane! Junction Chicken sandwich was incredible. I don’t live in Iowa anymore but I cannot wait to come back here and try something else. A new fav that I would recommend to anyone. 1000/10.

What is a little bit of weight but just proves what a great little restaurant it is recommend calling and making reservations if you want to eat here on a Friday or Saturday but delicious food and great service, very cozy

Came during a busier lunch hour- our service was very courteous and I could tell my waiter was working hard to make sure all of the tables he was responsible for were satisfied. My friend and I shared a wonderful appetizer - the egg rolls du jour were a honey/siracha chicken combo. They could have had a little more sauce, but were overall amazing! Our lunch portions were just right - my friend had the meatloaf that she really loved, and I had the 1/2 sandwich of the day (roast beef and provolone with some kind of delicious sauce) and a house salad. The salad was full and green and had a lot of fresh produce. They also have quality ranch 😂. Overall we were in and out in a little over an hour and it was very filling and delicious at a really good price for the quality of food and service we received! I will be back!

Know owner! He has made Cooper's a go to spot! Steak was perfect. Great atmosphere. Creamy Parm was great on the salad. Recommended!

Cooper's can be hard to get into, because of the size of the place so, I recommend reservations. The braised short ribs are awesome.

Exceptional service! Super friendly staff. I love the rustic appeal of the restaurant. Its a great atmosphere if you want to feel like you are on vacation. The food was decent too, we went for lunch so there was a more limited menu than there is for supper

This is the first time we had been here and we will definitely be back. I can see why it has made "10 must try places in Des Moines" lists. The service was fast and extra friendly, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was excellent, and the prices can't be beat.

They had a chef's special of loaded fries with carne asada. It was one of the best appetizers I have eaten in my life. My husband's junction burger has inspired me to get it the next time we come to Des Moines. This place is amazing. We will be back every time we are in the area.

We had to wait for awhile but we didn't have reservations. It was worth the wait ,I had the Cajun meatloaf and the zucchini appetizer it was great! Will be back again!

A little restaurant with great food. It is a small place so you may have to wait to get a table but the food is worth it. The best veggie burger I have had in Des Moines! You can switch out any of the burgers for the veggie patty. I leftover veggie burger even warmed up well at home. The fries also have a nice seasoning on them.
