Sam's Grill & Seafood Restaurant

Lovely iconic eatery serving local dishes. White table service paired with knowledge service (they can recommend wines if you ask). The food is tasty and generous. The poached celery (celery victor) was well cooked and full of flavour. The Cioppino was also a great medley of local flavours and the tomato came through. There's a good atmosphere here. You come mainly for the history but the food is worth a detour, especially if you are looking for some local cuisine. The cocktails aren't half bad either!

I headed for the outdoor seating, I'm mobility restricted. The staff graciously led me to the main dining room, where I was offered a nice table. I ordered my wife's favorite, the Scallops. The menu pic online doesn't do it justice. Perfectly cooked ( no small feat) well seasoned and paired with an incredible carrot dish, and red potatoes.

This place is fantastic. Our service was wonderful and the food was amazing. The prices are very reasonable for the location, service, and quality of food. We had the salmon and halibut and both were cooked perfectly and the sides were so tasty. I highly recommend getting an order of sourdough, it did not disappoint. Would definitely come back next time we are in SF!

Visiting from Florida. We went to Sam's because of the positive reviews and we had a good time.
The food is pricey, but what isn't in San Francisco? The portions were big enough to enjoy, but not too big to have much leftover to take home. It absolutely left room for dessert.
The waiter was nice. The private booths were a little weird. The table felt like it was going to break when the waiter leaned on it. It all seemed like rough construction, but I figured it's an older thing from the restaurant that has been kept.
All in all, it was a good visit. The big reason I keep it at 5 stars is that they let us come back in to warm up while we waited for our Uber.

Excellent service, atmosphere & good price.
Fish & chips are 5 star at least... Great wine & beer (a lot on tap) menu for sure.

This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in my life. Food is heavenly, service is perfect and professional, and atmosphere is romantic and unique. If you want the best seafood dinner, come here. It is pricey, but a meal you will never forget

Stopped in for a drink on my husband's birthday, on our way to dinner. Shah, our bartender, was great at making drinks and at conversation. He talked us into trying their restaurant for dinner and made a reservation for us. He was charming. We were impressed with the care taken to ensure we had a nice evening. The food was delicious! We had the crudo (so fresh and delicious), a rib eye, and a whole branzino. The dessert was a crisp with ice cream, and it was so fresh and tasty. Everything was wonderful and we are definitely coming back. Thanks, Shah, for speaking up about how great Sam's is!

Delicious food and fast service. One of the best seafood restaurants i have ever been to in San Francisco. The cioppino was absolutely delicious, my raw oysters were amazing and the bread was delicious. We will definitely be back.

Excellent ambiance, fresh seafood, and service! We first thought we were underdressed when we showed up in shorts and polos as the waiters are in tuxedos, but they didn't say anything about our attire. The swordfish mesquite grilled was exquisite! This is the empty plate after eating because I forgot to take a pic before finishing it all.

The high chairs for kids are so cute here .. the food is superb!! The deep fried olives were recommended by our waiter and they were so delicious & addicting lol fast and friendly service. Can’t wait to come back

I was looking for some good seafood from a less crowded area and something a little more familiar to locals and I found Sam's. I had some dietary restrictions at the time due to a hospital visit and I found items on the menu almost instantly. The shrimp cocktail and calamari were incredible starters and I managed to have a small taste of the old fashion which has amazing tasting notes. The main I got the crab and shrimp pasta with prawns and it was the first true meal I had since getting out and it was amazing and fukk of flavor and the prawns were fresh. The service was amazing and the staff is so friendly. I never got our servers name. He was an older gentleman but one of the most friendly I have met in a restaurant in my life time! Keep it up your business is great. And also the atmosphere is very calm and relaxing!

We ordered the steak and it was done perfectly. The Toasted Angels (oyster wrapped in bacon) offered another way of eating oyster but the bacon was too thick, overpowering the freshness of the oyster just a little. The fish and chips was competent but the highlight was the fries. The steak was wonderfully done, medium just the way I liked it.

We were served by Alejandro and he was really helpful and polite. Food was 4 stars and Alejandro added another.

I have great memories of my dad taking me to Sam’s when I was first getting my career kicked off in SF. Having recently come back after years, I must say it’s still the same solid establishment! Great food, service, and that classic SF ambiance which takes you back in time. All the seafood here is fantastic.

This was the best place we visited in San Francisco the three days we were there. Food was amazing. I had the oysters Rockefeller and the Cioppino that was incredible. Service was fantastic. Next time I am in San Francisco I will be returning.

Delicious very filling. The fish is killer and calamari steak. Tiramasu was hella good. Perfectly filling portions. More expensive but cute atmosphere and great place for a date 😉

Classic old school joint where the staff is very attentive and the food is great. I had the scallops with risotto and the scallops were cooked perfectly.

What a charming place. 2nd oldest restaurant in the city. We walked in without a reservation, they gave us a nice room - just for two of us. The service was top-notch - the best service anywhere.

The cocktails were classic - some of the stiffest and best made - we had Manhattan, Martini and Vespa - all outstanding. Some of the items I remember from dining here:
Spicy Scampi - some of the best prawn dish
Bacon wrapped oysters - OMG
Steak with Bone Marrow - steak from local grower/butcher Bryan Flannery - incredible duo
Fish and chips - really tasty Alaskan Cod
the wine selections are really good.
The old world charm to match the value (the best value meal anywhere in the Bay Area).
Can't say more - need to support businesses like this!

Great atmosphere! Waiter (Stefano) and staff were amazing and really friendly, food was also really good. Highly recommend for a nicer dinner.

Delicious seafood. Simply awesome. Great service too. Can't go wrong here. I had the tuna steak. Yummy
