We really felt at home during the past 2 weeks.

Initially wanted to learn surfing but apparently the waves/weather was not suitable for beginners that day. I enjoyed going for SUP lesson! Yong Yi is a great coach and it was a relaxing morning paddling on the river & exploring upstream.

The hostel was good! Clean and well kept with a good team of people helping to run the place.

It's a great all around place to stay, it has very friendly owners and staff that can teach you to surf. It also has a great vibe where you can make new friends and create good memories. It's definitely worth staying here

We took a beginner surfing lesson with Mark and Max and had a great time. Their passion and energy was contagious.

My plan was to stay there for 2 nights, but I ended up stayed for a week, friendly staff and great atmosphere! I also did a surf lesson with Mark, it was great! Will definitely recommend to everyone!

My partner and I surfed for 4 days with Mark and his wonderful family - one lesson and 3 board rental sessions. As beginner/intermediate surfers, it was some of the most fun we have had together surfing. Mark is a passionate and knowledgeable coach - he knows his stuff and I felt he really cared about my foundational understanding of the art of surfing and my progress. Plus, watching him and his daughter share a wave was priceless. From my partner: “Best surf lesson I have ever had! Mark is passionate not only about surf technique but also ocean knowledge and safety, and he gives his all every moment. When we caught waves he cheered as if he’d caught them himself, when we missed waves he reacted like he’d missed them himself! I would go back to Taiwan for future trips just to be in his positive presence while surfing. Couldn’t recommend this family run place more highly.”

The best place to be when in Dulan! Yang Yi is the most welcome host and the place she and Mark have created is amazing. One Mark’s surfing lesson was better than a week of surfing we had before coming here, he gave us great insights about how to surf as well as how to read the waves. We hope to come back one day :)

Best surfing experience ever! The team at WaGaLiGong went above and beyond to make our stay and surf unforgettable. The surf lessons were extremely insightful with very great teaching, which really helped us to improve. The hostel is also really cosy and with a friendly atmosphere. Once you get here, you never want to leave!

Many more weeks. Will defenitely be back. Dulan is a great area and cool place. Not crowded with tourists. It attracts chill relaxt travellers or nice locals. Mark and his wife yangi created a very chill place to do surf sports early morning and afternoon. You can join all social activities or just do whatever you like which is the best combi. In summertime the place is great for intermediate and beginner surfers. Mark is truly a cool and nice guy to chat with plus teacher. He has a amazing motivation to learn everyone surf and improve at his respective level. More important he spends alot time on safety in the water regarding current tides etc. Not many teachers do it but its so crucial to learn the basics. I met very nice cool other people. Recently had a class here for beginning Surfing and had a great time. CP value was high 4 hours or so of teaching. I got some golden nuggets to help my posture and board placement which I can practice on my own time. It's very hard to run a business in a more rural area so the least I can do to support is give a glowing review. Look forward to potentially renting a board here again when visiting Dulan. Marc is a great teacher and knows a hell-lot about surfing as well as Taiwanese culture. Learned a lot about waves, currents and other important theory on surfing - combined with some anecdotes on local peculiarities. Thanks and cheers!

personally, I think this place has the best burritos in Taiwan!! they are just super good.
We had to wait a little long to get them, but it is understandable as they are not many people in the kitchen.

Had the best time here, stopped for a few days whilst cycling Taiwan to enjoy the surf on offer. Mark and Yongyi are knowledgeable and kind hosts, they hooked me up with good boards considering the limited offering of equipment on the Taiwan market, gave me all the info on local spots and linked me up with locals to get to further breaks. Even when I snapped one of their boards (unfortunately) they were really reasonable about it. The vibe is sick and the accom is affordable, can’t wait to come back. Cheers WGLG.

Awesome place to live and rent surfboards from in Dulan!
For surf rentals, there's a very large selection of surfboards to choose from, from shortboards, 7 foots, longboards, foamies and hard boards, all at a very reasonable price (for Taiwan standards). I've tried some other rental places in Taitung and around Taiwan and I can definitely say that Wagaligong is the best I've seen so far (other shops often don't have as many choices and/or have boards that are in bad shape). They also have a shuttle service to the surf beaches which is really convenient; and the owners really know what they are talking about when it comes to surfing, windsurfing and SUP.
They also have a hostel which is quite fun to live in, affordable, with really nice views of the mountains and sea (especially from the rooftop!) and very conveniently located (the 7-11 nearby has some really tasty hot dogs! :) and there are many other restaurants nearby ofc). I've been living there on and off for over 2 months and I will surely be back again!

I truly have five star heart, but this is a complaint post.
I am a super loyal visitor of Wagaligong. Had so much cool memories here. I have told countless friends that Wagaligong is a must-visit hostel. I am so grateful that the Taiwanese+African couples started up this fun place. Many of us who don't go abroad get to have a chance to feel like being abroad.

However, I hate to give any advice since landlords are working so hard. The noise problem is very serious.
I wish to see a serious notice at the living room saying please keep quiet after 9 pm. And if people want to party, go to the roof.

I had the worst experience this time since the staff, the little helper herself is the loudest party person. All other guests were like neighbors standing their super loud noise. Oh I really hate her.

Wagaligong was the perfect spot to relax and surf. It was clean, comfortable and had a relaxing, laid back, beach vibe with lots of opportunities to meet fun energetic like minded people. Yong Li and Mark have all the bases covered for most every watersport, from surfing and windsurfing to SUP. They are happy to share their extensive knowledge of the best places and conditions in the area for a fantastic surf getaway.

One of my most memorable stays in Taiwan. This place is just magic. Lovely vibes & Friendly staffs. I will undoubtedly comeback here every time I visit Taiwan.

Best surfing instructors. If they can teach me, they can teach you!

I tried surfing eons ago in Florida by following my surfer friends. They tried to help me with tips and all. But I spent the day fighting the waves and worn myself out. It didn’t work and I got frustrated. So I was a bit nervous this year when boys trip have surfing on agenda at Taitung. A typhoon was about to hit Japan and the waves was even bigger.

Good that Mark and his team structured their lesson very well. He started by explaining the geography of the beach, and the waves and channels that formed a system, so we knew how to handle ourselves, and there was no need to panic, in case something happened. Then he explained the physical techniques involved. Finally we practiced with him and his team of instructors. The whole time I felt safe and was progressing.

And they are such cool people!

It was a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend that you look up these guys if you are thinking about surfing in this area.
